Limbikani Community Based Organisation (CBO) has underscored the importance of scaling up mental health awareness initiatives targeting children, citing numerous challenges they face.
Speaking during a session at Zolozolo Primary School in Mzuzu today, the organization's Programs Manager, Esau Phiri, said children's mental health is often overlooked.
"Most mental health initiatives focus on grown-up individuals, yet children also face numerous challenges caused by poverty, abuse, neglect, among others," Phiri said.
"It's crucial that we equip them with coping mechanisms and create supportive environments for their emotional well-being," he added.
The school's head teacher, Rhoda Msopole, commended the session, saying it is relevant to both the learners' academic and personal development.
"A healthy mind supports academic success, and this session delivered an essential message for our learners," she said.
Limbikani CBO plans to extend its outreach to more children in schools and communities across the region.
