Airborne Coach Ayami Targets Winning Start Against Chatoloma ADMARC

SALIMA, Malawi – Airborne Rangers FC Interim Head Coach Asedi Ayami has emphasized the critical importance of their season-opening match against Chatoloma ADMARC as a true test of their capabilities heading into the 2025 MK25 Chipiku Stores Premier League campaign, writes Alinafe Nyanda.

The Salima-based "Flying Soldiers" are scheduled to begin their season with an away fixture against Chatoloma on Saturday at the Chatoloma ADMARC ground in Kasungu.

Ayami, a former Flames player, was appointed as interim head coach earlier this month.

Speaking in an interview on Tuesday, Ayami expressed confidence in his team's ability to mount a strong title challenge, especially after a disappointing performance last season.

“We plan to win this match,” Ayami stated. “This is our first league match away and we need to stamp our authority.”

He acknowledged the challenge posed by their opponents, saying, “They are having the same mentality like us, to try and win. It's going to be tough. The first games of the season are key and as a coach, I will be hoping to get maximum points.”

The Central Region Football Association (CRFA), in partnership with sponsors Chipiku Stores, officially launched the new league season with an exciting match between Blue Eagles Reserve and Amour Battalion in Salima.
The launch event was attended by Football Association of Malawi (FAM) President Fleetwood Haiya and drew a large crowd, indicating a promising start to the new campaign.

Mitundu, Namitete Face Off in NBS Bank NDL Summit Clash

LILONGWE, Malawi – A highly anticipated top-of-the-table encounter in the NBS Bank National Division League will see Mitundu Baptist FC host Namitete Zitha at Civo Stadium on Sunday afternoon, headlining a weekend of second-tier football action, writes Alinafe Nyanda.

Both unbeaten sides are currently level on six points, with Mitundu Baptist leading the standings solely on a superior goal difference.

Coaches from both teams expressed caution but remained confident of securing maximum points in interviews on Tuesday.

“It’s going to be a tough match judging by the way Namitete has been playing lately. We need to be at our best and tactically disciplined if we are to come out with a result," said Mitundu mentor Audlow Makonyola.

"We respect Namitete Zitha and with little to separate us from them judging by the results, it will be a game of chances. I have told my boys to make sure that they convert the chances that come our way if we are to come back with a result.”

His counterpart, Namitete Zitha coach Richard Fosko, is aiming to guide his team to another victory and increase their lead to nine points.

“We have trained well and I am confident my players will get the better of their opponents. We know their strengths and weaknesses and will exploit them while remaining sharp in both attack and defence as any complacency can easily be punished,” Fosko said.

“Football is a game that we need to enjoy every moment... We are looking forward to the game and hoping that the boys will execute the plan well on the day.”

In other league fixtures on Sunday, former Super League side Chilumba Barracks will travel to Blantyre to face Ndirande at Mpira Stadium.

Red Lions will be looking to maintain their momentum when they host Chithenche United at Balaka Ground.

Saturday’s action will see Bangwe All Stars attempt to claim sole ownership of the top spot when they play Ntanja Uni

Over 166,000 Candidates Sit for Malawi JCE Exams Amid Discipline Call

DEDZA, Malawi – A total of 166,123 candidates, including 85,902 females and 80,221 males, began their Junior Certificate of Education (JCE) examinations across Malawi on Tuesday, June 3, as Minister of Basic and Secondary Education Madalitso Kambauwa Wirima emphasized the need for utmost seriousness, discipline, and honesty, writes Winston Mwale.

During a monitoring visit to Linthipe Secondary School and Nthulu Community Day Secondary School in Dedza, Minister Wirima (picture) warned that any form of examination malpractice would result in severe consequences.

She strongly condemned any potential acts of vandalism, intimidation, or harassment towards examination staff, deeming such behavior unacceptable.

"Be punctual, carry your examination materials and adhere to instructions," Wirima advised the candidates.

"Remember integrity in examinations not only ensures your success but also shapes your character and future."

The Minister also urged examination administrators and supervisors to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct throughout the national exercise.

"Be fair, firm and supportive to candidates. Ensure a smooth and credible examination process for every learner," she said, adding that the examinations demand dignity, order, and seriousness.

"It is our collective duty to provide a secure, fair, and peaceful environment for the learners to demonstrate their abilities," the minister emphasized.

The Ministry noted that the higher number of female candidates sitting for the exams reflects Malawi's commitment to ensuring equity and access to quality education for all.
