I got to interact with a flap necked chameleon at Kalimba Reptile Park and it was fascinating to see how calm and curious they are up close.
Fun fact chameleons can move their eyes independently which means they can look in two directions at once like built in binoculars. Their color changing is not just for camouflage but also for communication mood and temperature control. Another cool fact their long sticky tongue can be longer than their entire body and snaps up insects in seconds.
Chameleons are important because they help control insect populations and are great indicators of a healthy environment. When chameleons are present it usually means the ecosystem is doing well. Experiences like this remind us that reptiles are not just cool to look at but play a big role in nature.
Learning can be fun especially when it involves meeting nature face to face
