The Inter-Faith Forum for Peace, Justice and Dialogue (IFPJD) has strongly condemned various malapractices concerning religious intolerance that prolong to occur in the country.

IFPJD made the sentiments following a recent threat that Isaiah Sunganimoyo openly voiced out towards the Muslim society in the country attributing that he intends to launch an attack to the community.

According to the statement co-signed by Bishop Dr. Brighton Malasa and Sheikh Dinala Chabulika on 15th April 2024, it laments that such conducts are utterly uncivilized, barbaric, undemocratic and anti-religious hence they are unacceptable and might lead to disruption of the country's peace.

IFPJD further called for various stakeholders including the National Peace Commission and the Malawi Police Service to effectively engage on the acts as a strategy to curb such malpractices in the country.

The Ministry of Agriculture has set up minimum farm gate prices for strategic crops for the 2023/2024 farming season w'ith immediate effect in order to cushion Malawians from the economic hardships the country is facing.

According to the statement released by the Ministry of Agriculture, agricultural stakeholders who deal with the strategic commodities are to buy the crops at a price not less that the implemented minimum farm gate prices.

Teachers in the country have been encouraged to get registered with Teachers Council of Malawi for them to be allowed to operate in Malawi.

Speaking to Litala FM, Ministry of Education Public Relations Officer Mphatso Mkuonela, said the recommendation which was made during the Teachers Council of Malawi Board Meeting in December last year, is in line with Malawi 2063 agenda which part of it seek to improve the country's education sector.

"We are trying to make the Education sector provide answers which the country can see everyone is participating in generating income for the growth of national economy. We are introducing subjects like homework, Needle crafts, welding as well carpentry. Such skills will help secondary as well primary schools to acquire vast knowledge," said Nkuonera.

It is reported that all teachers in primary schools, whether public or private, are supposed to pay MWK20,000 as registration fee and K60,000 as license fee, while those in teacher's training colleges and secondary schools will need to pay K30,000 as registration fee and K90,000 to get a licence.

The Registration is currently in process and it will run until 30th June, 2024, and the ministry says come July 1, 2024, it will ban all non registered teachers in both public and private schools, while institutions which will accommodate unregistered and unlicenced teachers, will face the law.

Christians in the country have been encouraged to venture into businesses which will see them making enough money to cover personal and other expenses, so that they also become a blessing to the society.

This is according to Pastor Jan Eitel from America who was speaking on Sunday in Blantyre when he graced the graduation ceremony of eleven Living Faith Pentecostal Church members who underwent a tailoring training.

Eitel said the idea behind the tailoring training which is open to their church members, is because he realized that more Malawians do not have the opportunity for education, so this is to make their members self-dependent and financially stable so that they can help their families as well contribute towards church developments.

“There are many people who don't have the opportunity for skills that for so many in Malawi they are subsistence farmers with no opportunity to earn and so my hope by helping with this is that not only could they learn a trade but they would also have tools needed to begin their own business, so they could then take their life, their own skills and do something good with them, making their own choices rather than being the victim of a system that is difficult to help anyone,” said Eitel.

Eitel who says for so many years has been in partnership with founder of Living Faith Pentecostal Church, late Bishop Charles Mthunya, encouraged a giving spirit in the Christian circle, saying no matter how small a gift might be, it makes a significant change to the recipient.

While thanking the church for the initiative, one of the graduates, Christina Zapelewera said the tailoring skills she has gotten from the training and the free sewing machine, will boost her financial muscle.

At the same event, Living Faith Pentecostal Church launched a bible school which has been named ‘Bishop Charles Mthunya Memorial Bible Training School (BCMMBTS)’ and according to Bishop Litnes Bayson Mthunya, this was late Bishop Mthunya's vision.

As political activities intensify on the road to the 2025 tripartite elections, the People’s Transformation Party (PETRA) has appealed for calm, tolerance among all political, tribal and religious groups.

PETRA made the sentiments through a press statement signed by its Director of Communications Demister Chimombo in which the party was condemning last Saturday’s political tension where some Democratic Progressive Party supporters were attacked when they were about to start a road show at Mbowe in Lilongwe.

While condemning the acts in strongest terms, PETRA says violence undermines the very fabric of the nation, instills fear in the population, disrupts the fundamental rights of citizens and erodes the democratic process and undermines the credibility of government and political institutions hampers economic growth and social development, affecting the well-being of the entire nation.

The party further says violence creates an environment of fear and distrust among communities and can lead to loss of life and destruction of property, hence their call to tolerance and has since urged state security agencies to do an impartial investigation.

A Mpulula ati ,"achinyamata ndiwomwe ali ndi nthawi yokhala pa dziko lino nthawi ya itali kotelo akuyenela kutenga gawo lalikulu podzala ndikusamalila chilengendwe".
