The cyclone alert having been lifted at the start of the afternoon, some are taking the opportunity to take a dip, like here in Pereybère in the north of Mauritius. Vigilance remains essential. Even if moderate storm Candice moves away from Mauritius, the weather station advises against sea trips this Thursday.

Second cyclone bulletin for Mauritius issued at 1610 hours on Monday 22 January 2024.
Barometric pressure at St Brandon is steadily decreasing which indicates that the system is intensifying and it is likely to reach the Moderate Tropical Storm stage by tomorrow morning. It will then be named Candice.
At 1600 hours, the marked low pressure was located at about 430 km almost to the north of Mauritius near 16.3 degrees south and 58.1 degrees east. It is moving slowly towards the south-south-east.
Given its position and likelihood of further intensification, the marked low continues to approach our region and it represent a potential threat for the island. A movement more towards the south may bring the system closer to Mauritius.

The public in Mauritius is advised to complete all precautions.
Cloud bands associated with the marked low will cause the weather to be cloudy with showers.
These showers may be moderate at times and accompanied by thunderstorms.
Wind south-easterly at 25 km/h, strengthening gradually with gusts of 65 km/h.
Sea rough to very rough beyond the reefs with swells.
Public is advised not to ventures at sea.
