Weather Outlook for Mauritius and Rodrigues issued at 16h00 on Thursday, valid from
Friday 03 to Monday 06 March 2023.
General Synopsis
At 10h00, Thursday 02 March, the remnant of Freddy has emerged into the Mozambique Channel.
Most weather models are showing that Freddy will intensify slightly and move towards the southeast over the weekend. On this scenario, the centre of Freddy will be off the Southeast coast of Madagascar at the beginning of next week.
The evolution of Freddy in the Mozambique Channel, the advection of warm moist air from the equatorial region and the easterly airstream from an anticyclone to the south of the Madagascar is favouring the development of active convective clouds to the south of the Mascarene region. These active clouds are likely to cross Mauritius and Rodrigues as from Saturday 05 afternoon and cause a
showery and thundery weather on Saturday evening and on Sunday.
Weather Forecast for Mauritius valid from Friday 03 to Monday 06 March 2023
Friday 03: Afternoon localised showers expected to the south, the East and over the Centre with thunderstorms.
Saturday 04, Sunday 05: cloudy as from Saturday afternoon with scattered thundery showers. The showers are likely to become widespread and heavy in the evening and on Sunday with thunderstorms. The short duration and high intensity showers are likely to cause water accumulation and flooding in certain places.
Monday 06: Residual instabilities will cause the weather to remain cloudy throughout the day with a few scattered showers, mainly over the high grounds.
