Important tangible steps for integrity in Maltese Sports as The Authority for Integrity in Maltese Sport AIMS and Sport Integrity Australia Sign an IMPORTANT MOU.
On Friday, the 20th of October, the Authority for Integrity in Maltese Sport (AIMS) and Sport Integrity Australia (SIA) marked a momentous occasion by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This significant agreement was officially signed by Dr. Luciano Busuttil, CEO of AIMS, and Mr. Darren Mullaly, Head of International Relationships & Strategy for SIA, in the presence of AIMS Chairman Judge Antonio Mizzi. The MOU establishes a robust framework for collaboration, solidifying the commitment of both organizations to safeguard the integrity of sports.
Sport Integrity Australia has consistently proven itself as a trailblazer in the realm of sports integrity. Their role in managing threats to the integrity of sports in Australia is pivotal, and they have been at the forefront of the battle to ensure sports are played fairly and transparently.
Under the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Sport Integrity Australia (SIA) and the Authority for Integrity in Maltese Sport (AIMS), the partnership focuses on mutual support, knowledge sharing, enhanced communication and cooperation, information exchange, collaborative events, and the establishment of a clear mechanism for sharing resources and information. These initiatives aim to strengthen the relationship between the two organizations and promote the overarching goal of safeguarding the integrity of sports.
To exemplify the immediate impact of this partnership, AIMS organised an educational course on the morning of Saturday, the 21st of October titled 'The Basics of Sport Integrity'. This course was designed to broaden the knowledge base of the general public and local sports administrators, further fortifying their commitment to maintaining the fairness and safety of local sports.
With the valued assistance of Sport Integrity Australia, this training program delved into essential topics, including anti-doping measures, teaching strategies for promoting integrity in sports, and the critical aspects of preventing sport manipulation and match-fixing.
Mr. Darren Mullaly, Head of International Relationships & Strategy at SIA, stated “Sport integrity threats do not stop at our national borders. They are global and increasing. Sport integrity agencies must work together to help to protect our sports and athletes.
Sport Integrity Australia is excited to have signed an agreement to collaborate with the Authority for Integrity in Maltese Sport.
The agreement will see our agencies share information in areas such as education and intelligence. This current and future collaboration between like-minded countries will enable us to protect sport together”.
In response to this collaboration, Dr. Luciano Busuttil, CEO of AIMS, enthusiastically added that “it is with immense satisfaction that Sport Integrity Australia, one of the largest and most renowned agencies in the field of sports integrity, has accepted our invitation to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Malta's own regulatory authority for sports, AIMS. Despite being a relatively new authority, AIMS has already garnered the trust and recognition of one of the world's largest and most significant sports agencies.
We take great pleasure in extending our warm welcome to the representatives of Sport Integrity Australia who visited us here in Malta. They have graciously come a long way to share their invaluable knowledge and firsthand experiences in combating doping, addressing competition manipulation, and tackling the challenges that the world of sports faces today. We are eager to learn from their expertise, and we believe that this collaboration will further empower AIMS to continue growing as a credible authority in the realm of sports integrity.”
