$210 million Osagyefo power barge at Effasu sold to scrap dealer, claims Captain Smart

The host of Onua TV’s breakfast show, Blessed Godsbrain Smart, popularly known as Captain Smart, has alleged that the Osagyefo Power Barge which was acquired under the leadership of former President Jerry John Rawlings, has been reduced to scraps.

Smart asserts that the barge was acquired under a $210 million loan facility which the country has not finished paying yet.

Speaking during his Maakye show, the broadcaster added that, aside from the $210 million, an Italian constructor was paid $30 million to operationalize the plant but the contractor abandoned the work because the government could not pay an additional $12 million.

“During Rawlings’s time, we had a power crisis and to resolve this, we went into a loan agreement to acquire the Osagyefo Power Barge which together with the interest charges will cost the country $210 million, payable in 30 years. We have not completed paying the amount and the people who gave us the loan are still demanding the money from the government.

“…. because the government could not operationalise the barge, an Italian company was contracted to help dig a trench that was suited for it. The company charged $42 million out of which the government paid $30 million. After digging the suitable trench, the company refused to fix the plant because the government did not pay the remaining $12 million and since last year, the Osagyefo [Power Barge] has been left outside.

“… now the Osagyefo [Power Barge] has been left to root. It is completely deteriorating and has been sold as scrap and people are taking part of it and selling it to manufacture coal pots,” he said in Twi.

Also, Captain Smart alleged that the 38 Military Hospital in Afari which he described as the single largest military hospital in the whole world has been left to rot by the government.

Breaking News
This is the current situation of the Tikobo1 road which leads to the Sameye barrier, this erosion happened just today after heavy rainfall.

Users of the road are to take note and drive carefully, the situation is opposite the Jomoro Rural Bank Ltd.

Tikobo1 township is now living in panic and fear and is pleading for immediate intervention since this situation is likely to cause an accident and road trafficking. The road is the only major road that links Tikobo1 - Half Assini and Tikobo1 - Sameye barrier.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Jomoro, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, has revealed that she once held an Ivorian citizenship.

This was discovered during her cross-examination at the Sekondi High Court 1 where a case challenging her eligibility to contest as MP is currently being heard.

She further confirmed to the court that she is an Ivorian by birth and was born on May 4, 1971, in Ivory Coast, a town called Adzope but was quick to also affirmed to that she was registered in Ghana on May 4, 1972 at the Korle-bu Hospital in Accra.

This follows an application by one, Joshua Emuah Kofie challenging the eligibility of the MP to contest as a representative of the people in the constituency.

According to the applicant, the MP is holding multiple nationalities, including American and Ivorian citizenships, which contravenes the 1992 Constitution.

The MP has denied having an American citizenship and claimed to have also renounced her Ivorian citizenship.

However, the applicant prayed the court to give an order to inspect the documents to ascertain whether the MP truly renounced her Ivorian citizenship before filing to contest as MP in 2020.

Dorcas Affo-Toffey was subsequently ordered by the Court to produce documents that prove her supposed renunciation of Ivorian citizenship, but she failed to do so.

This led to the applicant subsequently filing contempt charges against her for failing to provide the requisite documents.

Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe, counsel for the MP, pleaded with the court to strike out the contempt case and asked for forgiveness noting his client had no intentions of disrespecting the orders of the court.

The lawyer for the petitioner, Bright Okyere Agyekum asked the court to award a cost of GHC 20,000 against the MP for disobeying the orders of the court and wasting their time before striking out the case of contempt.

The court presided by Justice Sedinam Agbemava subsequently struck out the case and awarded a cost of GHC5,000 against the MP after her lawyer pleaded his client could not afford the amount requested by the petitioner’s lawyer, noting that “things are hard.”

The court has therefore adjourned to July 18, 2022, for continuation.

100+ old woman found dead in a river at Esiama Nkroful road, the uncompleted bridge of the river was collapsed a few weeks ago by heavy rainfall on the 23 May 2022, Many publications and demands have been made for immediate effect but up to date, the contractor has not to make any concerns.

The old woman is said to have mental illness and sometimes leaves home without a trace. She is either been found or gotten her way back home in days, she left home yesterday and never returned, as usual, many announcements were made after her disappearance but no good news was heard, unfortunately, to her family, she was found dead in the river.

The Police never came around so the family took the body to the police station for a statement and now preparing for her burial rites.

Update on Jomoro’s MP Dorcas Affo - Toffey’s Arrest

The personal driver of Jomoro MP Dorcas Affo-Toffey and one other have been arrested by the Police on the Spintex road for a traffic offense, and obstructing an officer from performing his duties.

The MP’s driver reportedly refused to stop when Police officers attempted to stop him for driving in the middle of the road with the siren of the vehicle on.

According to police sources, the MP who was in the car at the time ordered the driver not to stop when the officers attempted to stop them.

When they were chased and forced to stop, the passenger at the front seat of the four-whee vehicle of the lawmaker reportedly verbally abused the arresting officer and obstructed hm from performing his duties.

They were subsequently arrested and taken to the Manet police station where they have currently been detained.

The Manet Police station In Accra is currently holding the MP for Jomoro Hostage for no reason together with her Son.

The MP, Dorcas Affo-Toffey is being harassed by the Police Service for no reason and even after her arrest they have failed to cite reasons why she was arrested.

Supt. Joshuah Owusu, the commander in charge is executing this on instructions from IGP George Dampare we are told.
