“A Death Foretold: the Ninoy Aquino Assassination Remembered” gathers the recollections and impressions of people on the assassination of Ninoy Aquino and the events surrounding it. Most of the accounts are from Filipinos who were there when it happened—individuals from diverse backgrounds and political persuasions.

Apart from firsthand accounts and personal insights, the book contains a timeline of events leading up to the assassination, and—as an epilogue—Ninoy Aquino's undelivered speech to his welcomers in Manila on that fateful day in 1983.

The book contains accounts from over 130 individuals, with approximately 150 photos, many of which have never been published until today. 280 pages, softbound, in full color.

21/08/2023

On August 21, 1983, Ninoy Aquino returned from a three-year exile to continue his incarceration as a political prisoner, and, it was widely held, to discuss terms of reconciliation with the government that sent him to prison. Minutes after his arrival, he was shot in the head in broad daylight, just as he was being escorted out of the aircraft.

The mystery of the Aquino assassination remains unsolved. But the collective experience of Ninoy’s death, and of his public and colorful life before it, remains.

This book gathers intimate recollections and impressions of individuals who were there when it happened, whether they were home or away, whether they were politically allied or opposed, or indifferent. Because the distance of time comes with the privilege of perspective, we also sought insights from those whose minds or lives were changed over the years that followed—or whose age or youth gives them a unique viewpoint.

In understanding and accepting this experience, we understand in turn that there is value in the lived experience. There is value in remembering, in gathering memories, impressions, and insights. In doing so, we preserve the value of human experience, and its ascendancy in speaking the truth.

A Death Foretold: The Ninoy Aquino Assassination Remembered launches on August 30, 2023. 9 in. x 9.9 in, 280 pages, softbound, in full color, covering 150 accounts and featuring 200 photographs.

"I think about all of us, speeding or lurching or trudging towards our individual endings, catching glimpses of them now and then, planning for the future, wishing, hoping, never really knowing for sure whether our endings will be happy or tragic."

We are happy to announce the reissue of Happy Endings, the modern classic by the late great Luis Katigbak, who remains one of the freshest voices in contemporary Filipino fiction in English.

Katigbak’s stories take a look at our world and refract it through a lens of wild imagination and humor. Here are beloved tales about reinvented identities, lost loves, thermoacoustic engines, and Wednesday afternoons.

Luna means many things: the moon, a great painter with a tragic flaw, a fierce general, a failed cryptocurrency, the mad light poets write by. During the pandemic when the future was a vast unknown, it also meant ambiguity: a light neither felt nor seen, but only remembered. It was this kind of ambiguity that we wanted to deliver with this journal: the everyday uncertainty and the urge to forge on even as we counted our losses and our small and large sorrows. We found comfort in the experiences of writing—lonely and shared at the same time.

To our writers and readers, our heartfelt and moonlit gratitude.
