The Punk Connection The Punk Connection is a show that celebrates punk rock and all its connections. This is The Punk Connection. And he's not done yet.

The show, which airs on Jam 88.3 FM every Saturday from 5-7 PM, plays mainly punk rock, although the show’s format allows it to play genres connected to punk, such as hardcore, ska, reggae, and rockabilly. Punk rock is a rock music genre that came out sometime in the early to the mid-70s in the US and UK. Punk bands typically use short or fast-paced songs, with hard-edged melodies and singing styl

es, stripped-down instrumentation, and often political, socially relevant lyrics. The most popular bands that are either punk rock or heavily associated with it are The S*x Pistols, The Clash, The Ramones, Bad Religion, Rancid, and many other bands. The Punk Connection is hosted by Al Dimalanta—chief songwriter, guitarist and vocalist of hardcore punk band Throw—and Wendy—vocalist and co-songwriter of The Republicats and the new Agaw Agimat. The show was created by executive producer Renmin Nadela, co-founder of Yano and founder of Agaw Agimat; both 90s bands. Al Dimalanta, a writer and marketing communicator by profession, was also the founder and chief songwriter of Dead Ends, one of the pioneers in the local punk scene back in the 80s. Wendy, in turn, has been an active member of the local punk movement since the mid-80s, forming different bands that included Dogtown in 1987, Emptycups in 1989, Isla de Lata in 2004, and Republika de Lata in 2006. In 2012, she co-founded the punk-ska band The Republicats with the show’s producer Renmin Nadela. The Punk Connection, which first aired on June 11, 2016, has been a constant top-rater in Jam 88.3’s roster, consistently getting thousands of viewers in its Facebook Live feed every week. The show also has different special segments that airs every now and then, such as the “Underground Pick” which features new bands in the local underground scene, and the regular regional features that give spotlight to the punk movements in areas outside of Metro Manila, like Cebu, Bulacan, Naga, Davao and Tarlac. The show also regularly holds guest interviews of prominent personalities in the underground scene, live in-studio performances and punk rock shows on the road. Revolutionizing the airwaves every Saturday, 5-7pm on Jam 88.3. TRIVIA 1: Did you know that Al Dimalanta was the founder and chief songwriter of Dead Ends, one of the pioneers in the local punk scene? From 1985-1996, Dead Ends came out with four independently released albums, the first three of which were under the legendary Twisted Red Cross (TRC) label. He now heads Throw, a hardcore punk band that has released four albums since 2001. Another bit of trivia is that Al has written around 110 original songs in a total of eight independent hardcore punk albums and one EP for both Dead Ends and Throw. One thing's for sure: this TPC host knows his punk rock. TRIVIA 2: Did you know that Wendy has been an active member of the local punk movement since the mid-80s? She was still in grade school when she became part of a punk tribe called Wudsmen in 1985 and has been listening to punk rock since then. This female pioneer in skateboarding formed her first punk band "Dogtown" in 1987. This was followed by more bands, including Envois (with Dodong Cruz of The Youth, Pat of Ge***al Grinder & H8red) in 1987, Emptycups (with Emer of Askals) in 1989, and WUDS (as a back-up singer) for the recording of "Me in the Middle" in 1989. Starting at the turn of the millennium, she became a member of more bands, including Isla de Lata in 2004 and Republika de Lata in 2006. In 2012, she co-founded The Republicats with Renmin Nadela, a punk-ska band who released their first album "Disconnected" in 2018. She is also the new vocalist of the 90's band Agaw Agimat after a 9 year hiatus. This host definitely knows her punk rock and has been there since the early days of the local punk movement.
