| Here’s the story of how a Chinoy’s experience with her pet-loving family helped her learn how to be a responsible pet parent to her adorable dog, Chewie The Lazy Dog!
“‘Responsibility’ is a single word that has a huge meaning. There are several ways to perform it.
I grew up in a Chinoy house full of pets, and my late dad especially loves animals so much that our house before was full of dogs, birds, hamsters, and fish. He taught me a sense of responsibility by taking care of them and treating them as part of our family.
Years later, I saw a cute puppy with innocent eyes named Simba on a kennel's Facebook post. I immediately set an arrangement for the kennel owner to get Simba. Waiting for his release, I then changed his name to Chewie (named after Chewbacca from Star Wars) because he is playful, loyal and loves to chew things.
As I waited for the kennel owner to arrive, my emotion varied from nervousness to excitement. The owner then arrived and handed me Chewie, who immediately lay his head on my chest. I felt so melted and touched that Chewie and I already created this mother and son connection. I then remember how my dad used to teach me about being a responsible pet owner and parent.
Days passed, Chewie became playful but lazy. He ate, then slept, then played, then slept again. And yet, I am so protective of Chewie, and I treat him like my real son. I spent all my free time with him, from going out to the mall to attending various dog events with my boyfriend. We are like a real family.
His picture-ready and bubbly aura drove us to create his social media pages. I shared our stories with Chewie’s to share how to be a responsible pet parent. I also share our experiences about pet care products, pet-friendly places, and other stuff specially for first-time dog owners. We post lots of funny and cute photos and videos of Chewie. We want to show that Chinoys are pet lovers who grow bonds with their pets.
Chewie indeed made a big impact on my life. I learned how to love unconditionally, and I was able to use all of my father's teachings and become a more responsible pet parent. Indeed, our Chinoy dads gave us lessons on how to be responsible in their own simple ways.”
