“I went to HSBC and asked for a £40,000 loan to pay rent and buy two ramps and a compressor,” he recalls. The rest, as they say, is history. Two decades later and this independent Mercedes specialist is thriving.
David Sutherland writes, “The number of classic Benzes inside the workshop and parked outside gives more than a clue of what James’ passion is in cars. If he does wield the spanners now and again, it will be on a Benz built before most, if not all his employees were born. “When I see the old chrome bumpers I like to roll up my sleeves and have a fiddle,” James says.
And who can blame him!
