Nathan and Sylvia
Day 1 of the conference was phenomenal yesterday.
Nathan Selove shared his journey through autism, the challenges he faced and everything he has achieved in spite of this diagnosis.
While Deb Gromling Tack shared about the work and processes of SSD: Susquehanna Service Dogs , the organisation where Nathan got his service dogs.
Here's the documentary video where Nathan shares about much of what he talked about yesterday. This video, in 2016, was my first ever glimpse into the possibility and power of the Human Animal Bond in healing humans.

Incorporating animals in the healing mix has been a game changer for many facilities or by many professionals across the world.
As a Nigerian or African professional, interested in Incorporating trained, therapy pets (with or without volunteer pet handlers) into your practice or health facility?
Watch out for next post.

World Down Syndrome Day
Imagine a society where people with Down Syndrome and other neurodevelopmental disorders are able to contribute profitably to society because they truly can.
Absolutely love this piece, performed by @theofficialsting . You can never tell the power of an action until you see the result of the chain reactions that result from it.
Happy World Down Syndrome Day to all the Down Syndrome stars out there as well as to their families and caregivers.

Aai at Boston Children's Hospital
As a requirement for my Oakland University Animal Assisted Therapy course, I recently had the privilege of interviewing Lynn Ducoff Belkin , a Child Life Specialist and one of two coordinators of the Pawprints, Animal Assisted Interventions program at Boston Children's Hospital ; a program supported by PetSmart Charities .
I'm totally in love with how Boston Children's Hospital is enriching the lives of these children and overall, meeting children's healthcare needs in both conventional and unconventional ways. It's no wonder they have been ranked as the number 1 Children's Hospital in the United States by U.S. News and World Report for 7 years in a row.
As pioneers of Animal Assisted Interventions (AAI) in Nigeria, we're looking forward to the days when Therapy Pets will feature prominently in children's health and welfare.
Imagine that Therapy Pets are making impact in schools (neurotypical and/or special needs schools), in children's hospitals e.g The Limi Children's Hospital , in therapeutic programs by therapists (occupational, speech, etc.)
If you're a Nigerian human healthcare professional or organization and want to learn more about AAI and how it can help the population of people you already serve, do reach out to us via mail at [email protected] and we'll be glad to be in touch.
