As my fair city gets its first snowfall of the season, I am once again reminded that even in a country that gets 6+ months of winter, nobody remembers what it's like to drive in it after a beautiful summer. I think the person who reviewed this on Amazon.com put it very succinctly when she called it "an upper about a downer". It's hard enough to cope with growing (literally) health concerns, but when you add in all of the things that can go wrong in the process, even as early as diagnosis, it can beg the question: "Which fear is worse: the fear of knowing or the reality of knowing?"

Elizabeth Benedict coats humor over the humorless to come to grips with a harsh reality: getting cancer fu@*ing sucks, but you can't go backwards.

When I used to help riders improve their and their horse’s balance, I often (make that usually) found myself teaching what I needed to learn. Sometimes my clients’ horses were asking the same questions of their riders that Pie (Infinity) had just started asking me, sometimes they asked questions I had answers to but needed to consolidate in my mind. Whichever it was, I always came away from lessons I had given feeling that I’d had a lesson too.

I have found the same to be true for my writing - I write what I need to learn, in fact much of what comes out of my fingers into my screen is news to me 😉🐴

When I’m experiencing challenges, I often go back to things I learnt from Pie or that I’ve written, and am just sharing the following in case anyone else needs to hear it right now too 🥰

30 Years ago today, the X-Files first aired on TV. Among the cast was William B. Davis - The Smoking Man - the only character in the series, in addition to Mulder and Scully, to appear in both the first episode, "Pilot" and the last, "The Truth" of the series.

Sometimes you just need to immerse yourself in nature to see the importance of it. To see how you're connected to it...a part of it.

I'm on a... Let's say "sabbatical" of sorts back to my family's ancestral home in northern BC. I don't get back here often. In fact I think this may only be the third time I've been back here since I was a child. But being here really changes perspectives

Taking part in the preserving and canning of the salmon that my culture relies on at a base level has allowed for a deeper connection to my family who lives here, as well as to the land we call home.
