India and Pakistan will lock horns in a blockbuster T20 World Cup group clash for the second year running after the fixtures for the October-November 2022 tournament in Australia were announced.

The two sides' rivals will lock horns at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on October 23, a day after Australia begins its title defense against New Zealand in Sydney – a repeat of the 2021 final in Dubai where Aaron Finch’s team won its maiden crown.

Bitcoin tumbled in an extended selloff for cryptocurrencies, falling past $38,000 to its lowest level in six months.

The largest token sank as much as 8.7% on Friday, marking a three-day downturn. More than 236,000 traders had their positions closed over the past 24 hours, with liquidations totaling $867 million, according to data from Coinglass, a cryptocurrency futures trading and information platform.

“Rumors of Russian mining bans, the effects of tapering programs and ongoing regulatory concerns in certain jurisdictions are currently taking more weight in trading and investment decisions than the underlying long-term fundamentals,” said Jason Deane, an analyst at digital asset research firm Quantum Economics.

“At the same time, increased use and adoption of Bitcoin in high-inflation economies creates a confusing market picture leading to lack of decisive direction and momentum either way,” he added.

They were demanding the resignation of a cabinet minister whose son has been accused over the deaths of farmers.

"This was a major lapse in the security of the PM," a statement from the federal home ministry said.

Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi said there had been no security lapse on the part of his government.

"We had asked them [Prime Minister's office] to discontinue the visit due to bad weather and protests. We had no information of [the] sudden change in route. There was no security lapse during the PM's visit," Mr Channi told the media on Wednesday.

Mr Modi arrived at Bhatinda airport on Wednesday morning, and was supposed to fly to the National Martyrs' Memorial and later to the rally in a helicopter.
But the trip was delayed by bad weather, and the convoy finally went by road when visibility did not improve. It got stuck some 30km (18 miles) from the memorial.

Mr. Modi was also scheduled to address a rally in the city of Ferozepur, ahead of state elections. But the home ministry said the prime minister's convoy returned to the airport due to the security lapse.

"I express regret that PM Modi had to return during his visit to Ferozepur. We respect our prime minister," Mr. Channi said.

The home ministry said it has sought a detailed report from the Punjab government on the "serious security lapse".

02/09/2021

The United States’ 20-year campaign in Afghanistan ended in tragedies and Washington achieved nothing, Russian President Vladimir Putin has said, adding that the US army’s attempt to ingrain their norms in Afghanistan was futile.
Speaking on Wednesday at a meeting with teenagers in the Russian far eastern city of Vladivostok to mark the start of the school year, he said: “American troops were present on that territory (of Afghanistan) for 20 years, and over those 20 years they were trying – this can be said without offending anyone – to civilise the local people, but in fact, to impose their norms and standards of life in the broadest sense of this word, including the political organisation of society.
“The only result is tragedies and losses for those who were doing that – for the United States – and especially for the people who live on the territory of Afghanistan. This is a zero result, if not negative.”

The Russian leader has a track record of criticising Western countries for trying to impose their values on non-Western nations and Moscow has regularly slammed US policy in Afghanistan, which is now controlled by the Taliban after its takeover.

02/09/2021

Syed Ali Shah Geelani, a top separatist leader in Indian-administered Kashmir, has died at the age of 92 after a prolonged illness.
Geelani, who quit politics in June last year, died at his residence in the main city of Srinagar on Wednesday night.
He was buried in a tightly controlled pre-dawn ceremony on Thursday as Indian authorities imposed a lockdown across the Himalayan region. Only a small number of his relatives were present, including two of his sons, reports said.
Geelani headed a hardline faction of All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), a separatist alliance that rejects Indian rule and demands a merger of Kashmir with Pakistan. He long rejected any dialogue with India over the future of the region.
After the region’s August 5, 2019 abrogation of Article 370, which granted special status to Kashmir, Geelani was confined to his house due to his weak health.

04/08/2021

TOKYO: Pakistan’s athletic Arshad Nadeem made history on Wednesday when he qualified for the final of javelin throw competition in the Tokyo Olympics, Geo News reported.

Arahad Nadeem has become the first-ever Pakistani athlete to qualify for the final of any track and field event in the Olympics.

The Pakistani javelin thrower was placed in group B for the contest in which the athlete had to throw a minimum of 83.5m to directly qualify for the final. Only six athletes could do so, and Arshad was one of them while the rest of the six athletes advanced to the finals on basis of their respective farthest throw.

In his first attempt, the 24-year-old Pakistani athlete could reach the 78.5m mark but in the second attempt, Arshad created history with a throw of 85.16m that also placed him on top of group B.

This was overall the third-best throw in the contest after India’s Neeraj Chopra (86.65m) and Germany’s Johannes Vetter (85.64m).

Former international cricketers are being threatened and warned by the Indian cricket board against taking part in the inaugural Kashmir Premier League (KPL) cricket tournament, organisers and players have said.

The KPL is scheduled to start from August 6 in Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-administered Kashmir and will be contested by six teams captained by Pakistan’s current and former cricketers – Shahid Afridi, Mohammad Hafeez, Shoaib Malik, Fakhar Zaman, Shadab Khan and Imad Wasim.
Firmer South African cricketer Herschelle Gibbs tweeted;

“Completely unnecessary of the to bring their political agenda with Pakistan into the equation and trying to prevent me playing in the . Also threatening me saying they won’t allow me entry into India for any cricket related work. Ludicrous,” Gibbs said on Twitter.

Afghanistan was in this situation because of Washington's military failure in the country.
“First of all, they tried to look for a military solution in Afghanistan when there was never one. And people like me, who know the history of Afghanistan and kept saying there isn't a military solution were called anti-American. I was called Taliban Khan,” said PM Imran.

Pakistan’s government says it is investigating whether a mobile phone number once used by Prime Minister Imran Khan was part of a surveillance hacking attempt using the Pegasus software, the information minister says.

On Monday, the US-based Washington Post newspaper reported that a number once used by Khan was among a list of hundreds of numbers potentially singled out using the Israeli firm NSO’s Pegasus cellphone infiltration and surveillance software.

23/07/2021

China has rejected a proposal from the World Health Organization (WHO) that the expert team investigating the origins of COVID-19 should return to the sites in China where the coronavirus first emerged, saying researchers should instead make a priority of the “very likely” possibility that the virus originated in animals and expand their work to other countries around the world.

Speaking at a news conference at the State Information Council Zeng Yixin, the vice minister of China’s National Health Commission, said he was “surprised” that the WHO had proposed the team return to places in the central city of Wuhan that they visited earlier this year and also investigate the hypothesis that it leaked from a lab.
Zeng said such a move was “not scientific”.

In a closed-door meeting last week, WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus proposed the second stage of the agency’s investigation into the origins of coronavirus should include further studies in China as well as laboratory.

06/07/2021

The 7.8 billion euro ($9.3 billion) deal for 36 planes between the Indian government and French aircraft manufacturer Dassault has long been mired in corruption allegations.

The PNF had initially refused to investigate the sale, prompting French investigative website Media part to accuse it and the French Anti-corruption Agency of “burying” suspicions surrounding the September 2016 deal.

In April, Media part claimed “millions of euros of hidden commissions” were given to a go-between who helped Dassault conclude the sale, of which “some [...] could have been given as bribes” to Indian officials.
Dassault retorted that no wrongdoing was flagged in the group's audits.

After the reports, France's Sherpa NGO, which specializes in financial crime, filed an official complaint for “corruption” and “influence peddling” among other accusations, prompting an investigating magistrate to be designated to probe the deal.

Sherpa had already asked for an investigation into the deal in 2018, but the PNF took no action.

In this first complaint, the NGO had denounced the fact that Dassault chose Reliance Group as its Indian partner, a conglomerate headed by billionaire Anil Ambani, who is close to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Dassult had initially won a contract in 2012 to supply 126 jets to India and had been negotiating with Indian aerospace company Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).

By March 2015, those talks had almost reached a conclusion, according to Dassault.

Pakistan would not change or downsize its relationship with China on the grounds that the relationship was "profound", Pakistan PM Imran Khan.

"Whatever will occur, our connection between the two nations — regardless of what pressing factor is put on us — won't transform," he focused.

remarks in a meeting with English-language state telecaster China Global Television Network (CGTN)

At the point when the broadcaster examined Prime Minister Khan concerning the fellowship among Pakistan and China, he answered that Pakistan has "consistently had an exceptionally uncommon relationship with China".

That relationship has just gotten more grounded with time, the two nations "consistently stand together" at worldwide discussions.

He said. "You see the United States being careful about China. The manner in which United States and China are taking a gander at one another makes issues since what the United States is doing is it's framed this local partnership called the Quad

PM Khan reviewed how China "consistently remained with us" at whatever point the nation was in a difficult situation strategically or globally or in a contention with its anything but, an obvious reference to India.

He said, it is "exceptionally uncalled for" of the United States and Western forces to "put pressure" on nations like Pakistan to pick sides and downsize their relationship with China.

"In happy occasions, everybody remains with you however in your troublesome, difficult stretches, awful occasions, you recall those individuals who remained by you. That is the reason you will track down that in Pakistan, individuals consistently have a unique affection for individuals in China," he added.

29/06/2021

The Twenty20 World Cup will be moved to the United Arab Emirates from India due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to an Indian cricket board official.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said it had told the International Cricket Council, the sport’s world body, of its decision to host the event in the UAE in October and November.
“We have told the ICC about the decision to shift the World Cup to UAE. We were left with no option as the COVID-19 situation is not clear and the travel restrictions remain,” BCCI’s treasurer, Arun Dhumal, told international media.

“The dates will more or less be the same and we will work out the details soon.”

The ICC had given the BCCI a deadline of the end of June to decide the host country for T20’s showpiece event due to the high number of COVID-19 cases in India.

04/06/2021

A ransomware attack against the world’s largest meatpacking company that has disrupted meat production in North America and Australia originated from a criminal organization probably based in Russia, the White House was informed on Tuesday.
The attack on Brazil’s JBS caused its Australian operations to shut down on Monday and has stopped livestock slaughter at its plants in several US states.
The ransomware attack follows one last month on Colonial Pipeline, the largest fuel pipeline in the United States, that crippled fuel delivery for several days in the US south-east.
The White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said JBS had given details of the hack to the White House, that the United States had contacted Russia’s government about the matter and that the FBI was investigating.
“The White House has offered assistance to JBS and our team at the Department of Agriculture have spoken to their leadership several times in the last day,” Jean-Pierre said.
“JBS notified the administration that the ransom demand came from a criminal organization likely based in Russia. The White House is engaging directly with the Russian government on this matter and delivering the message that responsible states do not harbor ransomware criminals,” Jean-Pierre added.
If the outages continue, US consumers could see higher meat prices during summer grilling season and meat exports could be disrupted at a time of strong demand from China.

Boris Johnson has hitched Carrie Symonds at Westminster Cathedral in a service arranged in exacting mystery, as per papers.

The pair traded pledges before a little gathering of dear loved ones on Saturday, the Mail on Sunday and the Sun paper announced.

The function had been gotten ready for a half year and a small bunch of chapel authorities were associated with the planning, as indicated by the Sun.

The 30 visitors welcomed, the most extreme number under current lockdown limitations, were said to have been educated uniquely without a second to spare.

It comes only days after reports said the head administrator and Symonds had sent save-the-date cards to loved ones for an occasion on 30 July 2022Source: The Guardian

30/05/2021

WhatsApp has filed a lawsuit in Delhi against the Indian government seeking to block regulations coming into force on Wednesday that experts say would compel the California-based Facebook unit to break privacy protections, sources said.

The case, described to Reuters by people familiar with it, asks the Delhi High Court to declare that one of the new rules is a violation of privacy rights in India's constitution since it requires social media companies to identify the "first originator of information" when authorities demand it.

While the law requires WhatsApp to unmask only people credibly accused of wrongdoing, the company says it cannot do that alone in practice. Because messages are end-to-end encrypted, to comply with the law WhatsApp says it would have to break encryption for receivers, as well as "originators," of messages.

Reuters, which first reported the story on Wednesday, could not independently confirm the complaint had been filed in court by WhatsApp, which has nearly 400 million users in India, nor when it might be reviewed by the court. The people with knowledge of the matter declined to be identified because of the sensitivity of the issue.

Tensions grew after a police visit to Twitter's offices earlier this week. The micro-blogging service had labeled posts by a spokesperson for the dominant party and others as containing "manipulated media," saying forged content was included.

The government has also pressed the tech companies to remove not only what it has described as misinformation on the COVID-19 pandemic ravaging India, but also some criticism of the government's response to the crisis, which is claiming thousands of lives daily.

This is the first time a NATO member will acquire Turkish drones.

The combat drones will be armed with anti-tank projectiles. Poland will also buy a logistics and training package along with the aircraft. First shipments will arrive in 2022.

The drones have assault capabilities and have "proven themselves in wars in Eastern Europe," Blaszczak said. He added that the UAVs would be serviced by a military company, without giving further details.

The minister on Wednesday teased the acquisition of the Turkish drones on Twitter.

Turkey’s Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank earlier Wednesday said the Turkish drones were set for the European market.

“Very soon we will see the Bayraktar and Anka UAVs from Turkey flying in the European skies,” Varank said.

India has reported 259,551 new coronavirus infections over the last 24 hours, while deaths have risen by 4,209 with rising cases of mucormycosis, a fungal disease also known as “black fungus”, further complicating treatment.

The South Asian nation’s infection tally stands at 26.03 million, with a death toll of 291,331, health ministry data showed on Friday.

“Black fungus” presents a new challenge for COVID-19 patients on steroid therapy and those with pre-existing diabetes.

It causes blackening or discolouration over the nose, blurred or double vision, chest pain, breathing difficulties and coughing of blood.

24/05/2021

Cryptocurrency mining operators, including Huobi Mall and BTC.TOP, are suspending their China operations after Beijing stepped up its efforts to crack down on Bitcoin mining and trading, sending the digital currency tumbling.
A State Council committee led by Vice Premier Liu He announced the efforts late on Friday – the first time the council has targeted virtual currency mining, a big business in China that accounts for as much as 70 percent of the world’s crypto supply.
Crypto miners use increasingly powerful, specially-designed computer equipment, or rigs, to verify virtual coin transactions in a process that produces newly minted cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin.
Bitcoin took a hammering after the latest Chinese move and is now down nearly 50 percent from its all-time high. It shed as much as 17 percent on Sunday, before paring some losses and was last trading steady in Asia.

A Brussels-based NGO working to combat disinformation against the European Union has unearthed a 15-year-old operation run by an Indian entity that used hundreds of fake media outlets and the identity of a dead professor to target Pakistan.
The EU DisinfoLab in its report, Indian Chronicles: deep dive into a 15-year operation targeting the EU and United Nations to serve Indian interests, termed this as the “largest network” of disinformation they have exposed so far.
The report released on Wednesday said the disinformation network run by the Srivastava Group, a New Delhi-based entity, was designed primarily to “discredit Pakistan internationally” and influence decision-making at the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) and the European Parliament.
The report said in order to “undermine Pakistan internationally”, the network “resurrected dead NGOs” at the UN, impersonated the EU and laundered content produced by fake media to real media, and reached millions in South Asia and across the world.
