"Inclusivity can often be comprised of “appearing inclusive,” but nothing systematically has fundamentally changed within the company or organization. "
Julian S. Newman, Culture Creative
We all exist in a world that has origins of the “anti-inclusive environment” where you’re not going to have access if you’re "this," you’re not going to have access if you’re "that."
Inclusivity can often be comprised of “appearing inclusive,” but nothing systematically has fundamentally changed within the company or organization. Cosmetic change is when an entity visually appears more inclusive. However, upon closer examination, the same people that have always sat at the table are still the only ones given access and power.
Inclusive environments should cultivate a space for all people to have a voice, share their gifts and talents, and embody an ecosystem that supports each individual in achieving their highest level of human potential.

Congratulations to Jorge Miguel one of the newest members of the Latino Community Coalitions steering committee.
Click through to learn more about Jorge.
We are excited to share that we have added members to our steering committee: Hugo Claudin, Bo Torres, and Jorge Miguel! We introduced Hugo on Monday, and Bo yesterday, and today, here's more about Jorge.
Jorge Miguel is a Thrive Outside Gear Library Coordinator for the Parks & Recreation Department of the City of Grand Rapids. He recently has undergone the Community Catalyst Program at the West Michigan Center for Arts & Technology and served as an Applicant Reviewer for La Lucha Fund. In the past he was an ESL Instructor for the Literacy Center of West Michigan, wrote his first grant at the Grand Valley Metro Council for the LGROW agency, served two terms as a seasonal for ArtPrize in the Learning & Engagement and Donor Relations Department at the beginning of a new series, Project [1] Crossed Lines. Currently he is developing towards online content to resource those who would identify with Mayan indigeneity, dreams of hiking all the time and enjoys playing and teaching others chess during this time. He is also part of the Mayan Indigenous Peoples Collective.
Jorge says that the diversity of Latinos is incredible and the LCC is an opportunity to connect–in a space that strives for equitable infrastructure and with a collective to not acquiesce to the systems that push the surreptitious. A space I believe that shares diversity, identity, and equity intersubjectively, freely, healthily. Jorge Miguel’in bi an, Akateko winaj jin’an.
