Mantis eats brains...

When we already thought we knew everything about the insects around us, there's always a new study to surprise us.

We know of any other unpleasant habit of praying mantis, like that of females to eat the male after the copula - or during.

But everyone who looks closely at one of these insects will notice its look seriously threatening.

Lucky for us, our huge size difference protects us from your deadly hug and crushing jaws.

But the truth is that mantis dare with prey much bigger than them, like frogs, mice, lizards, or snakes. Now, a new study reveals another appetitive on its menu: bird brains.

There were already some documented reports of mantis attacking birds. But to clarify if it's anything usual, three zoologists from Switzerland and the US have combed scientific literature, and the results have surprised them.

In total they have collected 147 cases - the first in 1864-in 13 countries across all continents except Antarctica. The victims belong to 24 different species of birds, but mostly small hummingbirds.

Squirrel

Squirrels are members of the family Sciuridae, a family that includes small or medium-size rodents. The squirrel family includes tree squirrels, ground squirrels, chipmunks, marmots (including groundhogs), flying squirrels, and prairie dogs amongst other rodents. Squirrels are indigenous to the Americas, Eurasia, and Africa, and were introduced by humans to Australia. The earliest known fossilized squirrels date from the Eocene epoch, and among other living rodent families, the squirrels are most closely related to the mountain beaver and to the dormice.

Cats DON'T FEEL the SWEET TASTE.

Unlike humans, cats, tigers, in short, the family of cats, are unable to detect the sweet taste of food due to a genetic mutation that useless sugar detectors in taste buds.

The cat not only lacks the gene that allows to taste sweet, but the ability to digest sugars. They don't have the enzymes necessary to metabolize carbs and control glucose levels in their body.

The reason was revealed in a study conducted by British and American scientists, who could conclude that this is due to a gene related to physiological structures that allow these flavors to be perceived, so sweet things have no flavor to them.

Here was the Dodo (Raphus cucullatus), a giant pigeon endemic to Mauritius, his last sighting alive was in 1662.

The dodos had no natural predators on the island of Mauritius, until humans arrived.

It took just a hundred years for this indiscriminate hunt to lead to extinction in 1681

Now it has become an extinction icon and a classic symbol of a man-induced extinction event.

Many believe that dodo is a product of human imagination, but it was once real. They were chubby birds and unable to fly, cousins of modern pigeons.

In the past, its habitat understood the current territory of the Republic of Mauritius, an island country located in the Indian Ocean, east of Madagascar.
