Back in September, Tyler Perry’s latest film A Jazzman’s Blues was released. The movie, which premiered on Netflix, is a “sweeping tale of forbidden love” that also “unspools forty years of secrets and lies soundtracked by juke joint blues in the deep South,” according to a press release. Perry wrote, directed, and produced the film which stars Joshua Boone and Solea Pfeiffer as the romantic couple at the center of the movie. The soundtrack for A Jazzman’s Blues features an original composition by singer Ruth B. titled “Paper Airplanes.” The record was also produced by D’Mile and Ruth B. herself and co-written by two-time Academy Award nominee and five-time Grammy winner Terence Blanchard, and now, it gets paired with a stellar new music video.

The stirring video for “Paper Airplanes” places Ruth B. in the Southern landscape that makes up most of A Jazzman’s Blues. All in all, the visual strikes as a touching dedication to love, something that pairs perfectly with the storyline of Tyler Perry’s Netflix film. Ruth B. stands tall throughout the video as she sings with sheer elegance and passion, two things that make the touching song that much better. The track itself also has a big presence in the film as it almost takes the role of a character by tying the storyline of the movie together.

In addition to Boone and Pfeiffer, A Jazzman’s Blues also stars Amirah Vann, Austin Scott, Milauna Jemai Jackson, Brent Antonello, Brad Benedict, Kario Marcel, Lana Young, and Ryan Eggold.

After a promising run this past summer with her Becky G collaboration, “Mamiii,” which peaked at No. 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, Karol G is back with another hit. This time, she recalling fond memories of time she spent with a lover in Cairo on a song appropriately titled “Cairo.”

Inspired by her travels, “Cairo” tells the story of falling in love, while she was trying to keep her walls up. Karol delivers soft, sweet vocals over a rolling percussion beat by producer Ovy On The Drums.

In the video, Karol is seen in Cairo, walking through the streets, dancing in the streets, and surrounded by pyramids.

In a recent interview with Remezcla, Karol spoke about her experience as a Latina in music, and expressed how she envisions the future for herself and for other artists.

“I’ve always wanted to break that barrier,” she said. “Today, I feel I’m in a very special place. I can say that there is still a lot to do culturally, but I am very happy and feel very proud to be able to say that we are promoting women a lot more, so they respect what we do.”

A hairdresser shared a heartwarming story about rapper Lil Baby. While Baby was in the hairdresser’s city during his “One Of Them Ones” joint tour with Chris Brown, the “Stand On It” rapper apparently paid her a significant amount of money for styling him and his team.

“I had a lot of stuff going on and it’s been a rough two months,” said the hairdresser. “He took care of me. I literally just took care of his whole entourage, and they were so nice and so cool. He literally took care of me.”

When asked how he took care of her, she responded, “He paid me, and he paid me a substantial amount.”

She revealed she cut Baby and his crew’s hair, and while she did not disclose how much Baby paid her, he showed the interviewer her bank account from her phone. As she admitted, it had been a rough two months for her, however, she indicated that Baby was unaware of her financial troubles.

“He didn’t know any of it,” she said. “He was just being genuine.”

According to the hairdresser, Lil Baby began counting up cash and handed her a huge amount after she told him how many members of the crew she helped.

She revealed she plans to use the money to help purchase school clothes for her son, and to get caught up on bills.

GloRilla’s triumphant 2022 continued this week as she built on the momentum off breakout hits like “FNF,” “Blessed,” and “Tomorrow 2” with the release of her major-label debut EP, Anyways, Life’s Great…. In addition to featuring the tracks mentioned above, the EP also features new single “Nut Quick,” for which she has now released an authoritative music video.

Naturally, Glo brings along her “ratchet ass friends,” who help her take over what looks like a sorority house, giving it a hood makeover including clotheslines covered in neon lingerie, a weave stand out front, and a fence covered in red cups. The house party has apparently spilled into the yard, and girls twerk out of seemingly every window as Glo details her “love ’em and leave ’em” exploits with men who can’t keep up with her self-centered lifestyle. She also shuts down the mall on a shopping spree and attends couples therapy, but the therapist is City Girls’ JT, who signals that she should just cut the dude off and get hers. With her new EP out and her status rising, this is probably good advice for the foreseeable future.

Anyways, Life’s Great… is out now on CMG/Interscope. You can get it here.

Well, it is about damn time singer Lizzo crossed paths with interviewer Nardwuar!

Adored by musicians for his quirky nature, the Canadian media personality’s interviews are filled with fun, often forgotten facts about his celebrity guests. When the Emmy-winner’s Special tour stopped in Vancouver, it was Lizzo’s turn to take that trip down memory lane.

The interview, in typical Nardwuar fashion, started with a sentimental gift. Backstage at the Rogers Arena, Nardwuar gives the “Good As Hell” singer a fuzz pedal for flute. This is no ordinary fuzz petal, as it was made from a 1967 Porsche transistor. He describes the tool as being “designed to be played through a mic,” which grants Lizzo more creative freedom with the instrument.

Filled with joy, Lizzo shares how thoughtful the gift was as she has always wanted “to do some experimental sh*t” with her famed flute on stage. After turning the device over, Lizzo revealed a unique engraving from Adam Grimm (owner of Satellite Amplifiers) that read, “inspired by the awesomeness of Lizzo and all that she does.”

Immediately after, Nardwuar handed Lizzo a framed picture of a scene from the 2004 film Friday Night Lights. Lizzo then confessed that she made a brief appearance in the film as the opposing school’s musical support alongside her Alief Elsik High School marching band peers. However, that wasn’t the only time her high school’s marching band led her to a significant opportunity as she revealed, “we were also in the Super Bowl, too.”

Known for her unwavering advocacy for body positivity, toward the end of the interview, the Houston native took a moment to thank rapper-turned-mogul Queen Latifah for blazing the trail for her. As Nardwuar presents her with a vintage 1990 12-inch vinyl and 1991 cassette tape from the Equalizer actress, Lizzo declared, “Queen Latifah is the first person that I saw in media that looked like me.”

Lizzo continued, “It was very important to see someone like her be a mogul, rapper, singer, actress, TV host, clothing line, all of it.”

Just when you thought you knew everything about the Houston native, it is clear we’ve only scratched the surface. Watch the full interview above.

Over on Twitter, a lot is going on right now. There have been a lot of changes since Elon Musk took over the platform but the one that’s been getting the most attention is the changes to verification: blue checkmarks were previously reserved for notable public people and entities, but now anybody who wants to pay $8 a month for Twitter Blue can get one. Naturally, funny impersonation shenanigans ensued, and after that, some verified Twitter users were unable to change their display names.

This proved to be an issue for Doja Cat, who at the time had set her display name to “christmas.” When she realized she couldn’t change her name, she appealed to Musk himself, tweeting, “i don’t wanna be christmas forever please help i’ve made a mistake.” He responded to let her know he was “working on it,” adding, “Pretty funny though [laughing emojis].”

The problem has since been resolved: At around 11 p.m. ET last night (November 11), when Doja changed her profile picture, people noticed that she also updated her display name, not to something straightforward like “Doja Cat,” but to “fart.” She also tweeted, “thank u elon .” This came after Musk tweeted at Doja at around 2 p.m. ET yesterday, “You should be able to change your name now.”

50 Cent has a lot of experience with talk shows: his IMDb page shows he’s been on pretty much all of them at some point. Now, though, he’s going to have his own for a short while: Drew Barrymore is sick, so she’s tapped 50 to fill in for her on The Drew Barrymore Show.

Barrymore made the announcement with a selfie of her and her cat in bed, writing on Instagram yesterday (November 10), “I’ve got covid and lucky the cat! Im good and will be back soon. In the meantime [co-host Ross Mathews] and are taking over. So only good news to report!!!!! Maybe some other special surprises too!”

The set should at least feel familiar to 50: He was on the show once in 2021 and again back in February.

Not much has been said about the 50 takeover beyond Barrymore’s post, so it remains to be seen if 50 will bring his own guests to the program, if there’s already a scheduled slate of visitors that he’s going to stick to, when his first episode will air, or what. Whatever the case, it seems unlikely he’d have Madonna on the program. He’s been posting not-so-kind things about her on Instagram here and there over the past year, most notably a few months ago when he likened her to an alien.
