A big hello from Texas Design Journal! But first, let's not be rude.

Texas Design Journal is UT's first scholarly Journal dedicated to design-centric research. As a student organization, we hope to foster a creative and innovative community that tackles topics of interest through a design perspective. Our members use design frameworks to explore their own individual topics and then articulate their findings in the form of articles. Ultimately these articles are compiled and then published as new editions of the Texas Design Journal.

If you have a curiosity about anything(like literally anything) and would like to explore that curiosity then TDJ might be the place for you. We can give you the tools and feedback to develop a design-centric framework/method to articulate your curiosity. And then help you revise, polish, and ultimately publish your articulated curiosity.

Above all, TDJ is a place that fosters ideas through design-centric frameworks. If the idea of writing and developing research is not so exciting, or if you have no idea what design is, or better yet if “design-centric frameworks” sound like something we made up, be assured we welcome members who are curious above all. So please if these words tickle your brain, check us out!

And now for the moment you have all been waiting for… Volume 3 is here!

None of this would have been possible without our wonderful staff writers, editors, and visual designers for their hard work throughout the year. Thank you all for your continued dedication and enthusiasm during the entire process.

Volume 3 is titled “Intertwined” to showcase the interconnected nature of design in various worlds, particularly the digital one. In this edition of our journal, you will find articles about artificial intelligence, human interaction with technology, and more. We hope that you, the reader, learn something new, feel inspired to start conversations with those around you, and embrace your ability to challenge the status quo.

Volume Two is officially here!

We want to thank both our staff writers and visual designers for their hard work over the past year. V2 is aptly titled, "Atmosphere," addressing the dynamic and everchanging field of design. In our second edition, you'll find articles covering the beginning of our journal, food insecurity, sustainability, and many more pertinent topics. We hope that you, the reader, can discover something new, whether it be an innovation or insight that seeks to challenge the status quo.

Learn about the beginnings of Texas Design Journal from Co-founder and outgoing Editor in Chief, Neil Potnis. https://www.texasdesignjournal.com/post/a-faith-in-imagination-beginning-texas-design-journal

My first phone call was to Sean. I’d been cooped up in the bedroom of my Katy home for two months due to the COVID-19 pandemic and had been brewing on an idea to begin a student journal for design research. At the time, the design community at UT Austin was just finding its footing with programs s...
