More info 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼 This is the long term review of the SKYLOTEC SPARK. After 8 months of solid use it is time I bring you this long term review of the @skylotec Spark. The Spark is very similar to the Sirius and only lacks the anti panic function. Personally, for my own kit I don’t like those functions so the Spark suits me perfectly. The Spark has very quickly become one of my favourite descenders out there. It is supersmooth on the rope and for rescues you do not need an extra friction carabiner. The rope path through the Spark is also much more straight than in other devices and doesn’t twist the rope as much.Right now my Patrons can watch the full video. Head over to Patreon to become a member to view it👍🏼Watch the full video where I share all the ins and outs of the device. It is such a great descender. Some of the things I explain are:- The specifications of the Spark- How to use a Spark in a rescue- How to use the Spark remotely from a distance- How to haul and lower using the Spark- Why the Spark is good in a dual descender setup- And of course some of my dislikes of the deviceStandards: EN 12841-C:2006 EN 15151-1:2012 EN 341-2A:2011NET WEIGHT 0.51 kg MATERIAL Aluminium, SteelMAXIMUM LOAD 250.00 kg MAXIMUM LOAD 1 PERSON 141.00 kg MAXIMUM LOAD 2 PERSONS 250.00 kg MAXIMUM NUMBER OF PERSONS 2MAX. A F8 knot is easier to untie than a F9 knot. For some reason people still claim the opposite. Even the poll I recently posted had 32% of the people saying the F9 would be easier to untie. The Figure of eight knot is always easier to untie. I have done these little tests for over a decade and NEVER has a Figure of Nine knot been easier to untie. So, if you claim that a F9 is easier, show me the result of your test. Tie a F8 and F9 on each end and pull them apart. Bounce around, load it on various tensions and untie them a few times. Make a video post or send it to me. I am not interested in the comment"I have used it for years and my F9 always come out" or"I was taught by a real OG scottish rope tech who has done it for 30 years"Because the people who have done these test all change their stance. And it seems that most of this "knowledge" is hand me down beliefs without anything to back it up.For instance, I know of a fire station that has changed their procedures after having seen my video on youtube about this subject called "F8 VS F9 Which is easier to untie?"and the performing tests. Also, a F8 is easier to tie and dress properly and it is easier to recognise as well. Those two factors are more important than untieability or strength of a knot. Strength of the knot is the next argument. "But the F9 is stronger"...By how much?? From what I know we are talking a few % in a lab setting. If those few % would be the difference between life and death you are already making huge errors in your rigging. Out in the field with old and dirty ropes we take 50% of MBS for a knot in the rope and take a SF of 10. If you go over, you need to adjust your rigging and maybe resort to tensionless hitches for instance.I am happy to be proven wrong#ropeaccess #ropeaccesstechnician #petzl #irata #petzlprofessional #ropeaccessprofessional #climbing #ropeaccesslife #workatheight #petzlgram #sprat #windowcleaning #roperescue #rope #iratainternational #rescue #safetyfirst #abseiling #arbor

How NOT to do a Croll rescue on 25 meters of rope 😉. This is an example of what can happen if we forget to train for real life. Those short ropes in a lot of training centers can give us a false sense of capability and with that a false sense of security. The regular Croll rescue, as taught in many training centers around the world, only really works on short ropes. Like always, there are multiple ways to prevent this. In next Mondays video I will show you the most basic way to prevent this and maybe I will show how I got out of this upside down situation 😉. I also have a version where my foot slips out of the foot loop. That was a fun experience 😂😂Is that something you want in the video??Trying the CMC Boost foot loop on a variety of rescues and that extra length is a real benefit. And I’m supporting Intervention Rescue with their Grimpday t-shirt. I am really positive those legends will not end up in a situation like this😂😂#ropeaccess #roperescue #irata #sprat #iratainternational
Answering a question on knee ascenders in rope access. In short, yes we can use them but because of user specifications it doesn't always make sense to do so. Unless we use something like a TAZLOV3. #RopeAccess #arborist #ropewalk Chris Sallows
An example of why you need proper gear. The visibility of Dapro Multinorm Rope Access Overall make you stick out in the deep dark pits we visit sometimes. The longer legs and arms keep the debris out of our boots as well. Good stuff! This is what Dapro says on the Dapro website:This multinorm Dapro coverall is tough and comfortable. The coverall is flame-retardant, anti-static, welding proof, chemical resistant, arc flash protection and has reflective striping for maximum safety. This product has adjustable elastic at the waist for the perfect fit and Action Armpits for working comfortably above reach. This coverall is specially designed for rope access harness belts.Full disclosure is that this is a paid collaboration. However, I started using Dapro garments about 5 years ago out of my own pocket. Their clothes have proven themselves as rugged and durable. Even when I wear them… They really can handle our rugged industry demands!Garments by:Dapro Safety #daprosafety #workwear #footwear #safety #outerwear #coverall #safety #work#ropeaccess #roperescue #spratropeaccess #iratainternational

Why don’t you just tie a Bowline knot!!! That was a common comment on a recent collaboration I did with Alpine Savvy
The post was “How to tie the perfect Figure of Eight Knot”. Similar to the video I did a while ago on here on YouTube.
Let me start off with saying, I love the Bowline! It is one of my favourite knots and use it frequently. Just not for people when doing the standard rope access work things.
Sometimes we do use it and that is always after careful risk assessment with experienced rope access techs who are also well versed in other rope related activities. It is never for just normal drops, always some special rigging and lifting involved.
In this video I talk about why it is a good knot, how to tie it. How to tie off a bowline to secure it and the major disadvantages of the bowline. I share my reasons for why I think it is not a good knot for normal rope access work.
After the comment storm died down John from Alpinesavvy mentioned that a video like this might be a good addition so there is a place to point people to if the question arises again. With the Bowline being one of my favourite knot and the fact that I had it planned for late spring made me decide to get it done now 😉

For some reason this keeps coming up. Just for the people who still feel that a F9 knot is easier to undo…… Get out of that “we have been doing it for longer” or “Everybody does it”mindset. My teenager talks like that 😂😂. Have you ever tested it with equal weights and that timed undoing it?I have yet to meet the person who has and says the F9 is easier to untie….. Here is a short demonstration about how much HARDER it actually is to undo. 2 minutes vs seconds. 📺Full video on my YouTube channel🔎 For: F9 VS F8 The FINAL Showdown!!!! - Mythbusting knots at The Rope Access ChannelCommon heard reasons for the F9:🟠It is stronger… Knot strength is irrelevant in how we work. If that becomes an issue you are already way, way beyond all the safety factors. You should be taking other measures or use something like a tension less hitch or spliced eyes. 🟠Easier to undo Already covered that one🟠My rope is so stiff I can’t put a F8 in it. Fair point, I have no experience with that. Get new ropes maybe? How is that risk assessment? Like I said, I have no experience with that. I would like to test some of those ropes for sure!!PSI don’t hate the F9. I just don’t like the wrong arguments for why you would use it… And come to think of it, me personally, I can’t think of any good arguments (in 97,3% of the times)….. 😂. #ropeaccess#roperescue #climbing#knots#knotcraft#climbingtips
This is my full review of the EDELRID Megawatt. Almost two months in the making!!I have been using it for the past two months and I am still really excited about this device. Watch the video to find out why ;-).I contacted Edelrid in November of 2022 about doing this review. They were very open, quick to communicate and invited me to the Megawatt Vertical Freedom Tour. There I got the opportunity to interview Steph Kleiser who showed the ins and outs of the device. Since then I have been using it and been in regular contact with Edelrid. I really enjoyed our collaboration. I also put it in the hands of a few people I worked with. Mostly experienced L3’s with over a decade of hours in ropes. Everyone said the same. “This is different”, “I like it!”. Yes we all needed a few descents to get used to a new way of working the handle and once you get it, it is a smooth ride.. That one handed operation seems to be one of the favourite features!Next up is the Fuse which should be coming in April. I can’t wait for that!! (And that Switch Pro Adjust)Check it out! Have a look on YouTube for the full video and subscribe and like and all that good stuff🙏🏼👊🏻🙏🏼Let me know what you think in the comments on Youtube😃😃😃EnjoyRemember, this is just a trailer for the full YouTube clip. I have been using this since the first release and own several colors. All bought with my own money because it was the first coverall that actually fit properly underneath a harness. After about 5 years it was time for a new coverall!Good thing I recently started a collaboration with Dapro Safety . They produce the best coveralls for rope access work. Longer legs so your boots stay covered when suspended, if you move your arms overhead there is enough fabric to keep you wrists covered as well. No more sudden short sleeves or grit in your boots!! Other great features that I find important are:-Inforced knees with room for kneepads. Great when working against a structure or when kneeling on grating.-Large upper leg pockets that are accessible with a harness on. Big enough for all modern phones and a notebook-All the necessary norms and safety features required for the most stringent locations (gas monitor loop, reflective). Droptest 3. Ruth Lee Ltd drop fall factor 1,5 on a fall arrest lanyardIn this test you can really see the progressive absorber of the Petzl Absorbica lanyard progressively tearing. These tests were done during a ppe inspection course at Industrieel Klimmen BV. I was conducting an IRATA International training and this happened simultaneously. I was not really involved and for some of the tests I might miss some data. I know you all want all the details and sometimes you just get some fun things to watch of things that break 😜.The LineGrip Corp. Ltd. Linescale3 measured that force on the anchor point was normal. Meaning around 4-5 kN. I forgot the exact value.Link in bio if you want to buy one with discount. Another great remark from one of the last posts has been about that I rigged one set of ropes with the gates against each other instead of gates opposed. To me, in that situation there was not any reason to switch it. Gates against each other means that they block each other from spinning. If one was to spin it is very very very likely that it will twist the other gate shut…. In some situations it is probably better to rig gates opposed, in other we want the spines aligned to lean against a structure. It is the same as with most things… IT DEPENDS.For the people who send those messages, I would really appreciate it if you can clarify why you are so adamant with your statements. It is like “this is the way” and it feels a lot like ‘because my teacher said that”. If you can point me to research that makes it clear that gates opposed is significantly better or safer.I’m eager to learn....#ropeaccess #roperescue#trabajoenalturas #cordiste #trabajosverticales #irata #iratainternational #spratropeaccess Alpine Savvy
How do you stuff your ropes in a bag? Here I am presetting a rescue bag for a short job on an offshore windfarm substation. The @dapro_safety infinity jacket and rope access coverall are durable enough to withstand years of this abuse.
