My first YouTube video is out! Please check out Top 3 Cash Back Credit Cards to Combat Inflation https://lnkd.in/gYMRYTt4
With cost of food and gas skyrocketing in the last couple of years due to inflation, I wanted to create this short video to hopefully help you ease the pain a bit.
I also wanted to share some initial thoughts after going through the process of producing my first video:
Starting a YouTube channel is definitely not for the faint of heart. You really have to want it as it requires you to wear so many different hats. When you watch other creators spit out videos day after day, you start to think to yourself, "Oh, this looks easy, I can do it too!" But what you don't see is the hours of research, scripting, filming, looking for B-rolls, talking to the camera over and over again, late night editing, and then pushing it out into the YouTube-verse hoping it will gain some traction in the midst of all the other 3.7 million videos that gets uploaded every day.
Here are some of the other challenges I faced along the way:
Time: With a full time job, I haven't really had to time go through the full process from scripting, filming, editing to publishing. Even with being laid off, I still have to balance my time between job hunting, interviewing, filming, and resting. I think once I go through the process a few more times, I'll be able to find a more efficient flow that allows me to still have a life.
On Camera Skills: With English being my second language, writing and public speaking have never been my strong suit. And talking to a camera without anyone on the other end isn't exactly natural either. Since embarking on this journey, I have tried several different ways of filming videos. The first was writing out full scripts and reading them off a teleprompter, but it felt very forced and robotic. With this video I basically just winged it, hence the choppiness and multiple cuts. What I've found whenever I don't script my videos is I tend to ramble and get off topic. So for the next video, I will try scripting it again. But instead of reading it verbatim, I will try and summarize each paragraph by memory. Let's see how that goes.
Perfectionism: Half of the battle of publishing your first YouTube video is the fear of judgement. It has been a mental challenge for me to get over the fear of being publicly ridiculed. If you've ever looked through the comments section of some of the top performing YouTubers, you'll see just how brutal the internet trolls can be. Throughout the making of this video, I had to constantly remind myself of 'progress not perfection'. I know there are probably countless improvements I could've made to this video, but for now, it's 'good enough'.
With that said, please like, subscribe, and let me know if you found the video helpful. I am hoping the quality will get better as I get better at... everything.
