Today marks the start of Rongali Bihu - the Assamese new year. The dry weather of February and March (Fagun and Choit) gives way to a greener landscape and flowers like kopou (foxtail orchid), Nahor (Indian rose Chestnut), Togor (crape Jasmine) can be sighted everywhere. It is the time when the rhythmic beats of the dhol being played can be heard from far and near. The sheer idea of celebrating Rongali Bihu is to express joy. The word Rongali suggests in itself the emotion of joyfulness.

The young girl in the video, family member of one of our grower partners, is singing an Assamese Lukogeet. Though many will not understand the lyrics, the vibe and her voice is pleasing. The video was shot at a grower's garden in Naharkatia.
