إِنَّا لِلَّٰهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ

(“Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed, to Him we return.”)

Mr. Alhaji Mohammed S.B. Dorley Sr.

SUNRISE: December 15, 1945 – SUNSET August 20, 2023

It is with deep sadness and heavy heart that the Dorley, Swaray, Johnson, and Corneh families announce the homegoing of our beloved father, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, Mr. Alhaji Mohammed S.B. Dorley Sr, also known as Momo or MD. He passed on peacefully at his Liberian residence in Blamasee Town, on Monday, August 21 after a prolonged illness. He was a simple caring man who loved God and was a friend to everyone—I am sure anyone who met him will agree that he made an impression on each of us. A life so beautifully lived deserves to be celebrated. Although our hearts are saddened, we find solace in knowing that he is in a better place. Our lives and our world will never be the same without him.

Mr. Alhaji Mohammed S.B. Dorley Sr. was born in Brewerville, Montserrado County, Liberia to Alhaji Salia Dorley and Massa Swaray-Dorley, both of whom predeceased him. He was the oldest child of his parents. MD received his primary education at the CWA (College of West Africa) in Monrovia, Liberia. Later, he migrated to the United States of America, where he acquired his undergraduate degree from Bowling Green State, Ohio, and later got his MBA degree at a University in Atlanta, GA in 1978.

Afterward, MD returned to Liberia he was employed at the Executive mansion as the Director of the Budget Bureau in the seventies. Not too long after the 1980 military coup in Liberia, MD returned to the United States, where he taught at the Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky and later at the West Chester University in West Chester, Pennsylvania in the late 80s and 90s.

He leaves to mourn his death: his children—Bendu, Sedia, Christine, Momolu (J.B.), Massah, Marfarta, Mamawah, Mustapha, Lagbeh (deceased); fifteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, one uncle Zwannah Sarnor, siblings, nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives.

MAY THE ALMIGHTY ALLAH FORGIVE HIS SHORTCOMINGS AND ACCEPT HIM IN ALJENNEH FIRDAUS. AMEEN

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever. -Psalm 23

Sunrise December 20, 1978 – Sunset – August 25, 2023

The Thomas, Urey, and Gaye families announce with heavy hearts and profound sadness the untimely passing of their beloved father, son, brother, nephew, cousin, and mentor, Cochise K. Thomas. He was called to eternal rest on Friday, August 25, 2023, at the UCSF Hospital in San Francisco.

Coch aka CoBlooded the Great aka the “protector” as he was affectionately known, was born in Monrovia, Liberia. Coch was highly spiritual and understood that God had a greater purpose for his life. He touched the lives of people he encountered. His passion was and always has been music since his early childhood. As a self-made music artist, Coch created music that reached and impacted the lives of people across the globe, including his homeland Liberia. In addition to music, Coch’s second love was nonprofit work with an emphasis on supporting and empowering marginalized youth. Additionally, his nonprofit work included uplifting communities locally in the San Francisco Bay Area and internationally in Liberia. Last, Coch focused recent years on health and wellness – emphasizing the use of natural foods and products to maintain a healthy mind, body, and spirit. In addition to spending quality time with his children, Coch enjoyed cooking, which was his main love language.

He was loved by many people and involved in many organizations globally. In recent years, Coch expanded his footprints to political activism and believed in the continuous development of Liberia’s future. He strongly supported former Vice President/current 2023 Presidential Candidate, Joseph Boakai, of the Unity Party in Liberia.

He was very generous and will be missed.

He leaves to mourn the following family members:

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved daughter, Melisa Courtney Yhap, who left us far too soon at the tender age of 20. She departed this world on September 08, 2023, leaving a void in our hearts that can never be filled.

Melisa was born on February 05, 2003, a day that brought immense joy and hope into our lives. From the very beginning, she radiated a vibrant spirit that would continue to touch the lives of everyone she met. She was a loving daughter, sister, friend, and confidante, always ready with a smile to brighten our darkest days. She was also a bright and diligent student who pursued her dreams with determination. Her ambition and intelligence shone through in everything she set her mind to, and her dreams held the promise of a bright future that was tragically cut short.

Melisa had a deep love for art, which was a source of inspiration and solace for her as she battled the devastating effects of osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. Notwithstanding the challenges of her illness, her entrepreneurial spirit was manifested in the design and development of her unique line of moisturizing products, meticulously project managing packaging, branding and marketing. She had an uncanny ability to find beauty in the world’s simplest pleasures, and her creativity knew no bounds.

Although we mourn the loss of our beloved Melisa, we take solace in the memories we shared and the profound impact she had on our lives. Her spirit will continue to live on in our hearts, and we will forever cherish the love, laughter, and joy she brought into our lives.

Melisa is survived by her grieving parents, Ian Yhap and Elisa Greaves, her adoring siblings, Monique (Cypha), Marcelle (Achim), Malakai, Monetta, Meira, Maya, Marley and McClain, Billie & Ndumiso. Her grandmother, Marjorie E. Cooper, Izetta Cooper (The Cooper family matriarch) her aunts and uncles, Elise Cooper, Gabriel Greaves, Charles Bright, John Kerkula, Pam & Boimah Taylor, Nyemale & Sam Gibson, Samuel B. Cooper, Michael Cooper, Jimmy Eid, Nada Bright, James Yhap, Jr., Kedrick & Constance Brown, J. Bai and Amanda Paasewe, Katy Yhap, Joy Wong, Rich & Genevieve Zebro, Eric & Paulette Yhap and Grace Yhap. Her best friends, Morgan & Ciara Wainwright (Three Peas in a Pod). She leaves behind a multitude of friends and extended family members who were touched by her grace and kindness.

A memorial service in celebration of Melisa’s life will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at 12:00 noon at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Circle SE, Leesburg, Virginia 20175.

As we say our final goodbyes to our beloved daughter, may we remember her for the bright and beautiful soul she was. Though her time on Earth was brief, her impact was immeasurable, and her memory will forever be etched in our hearts.

Rest in eternal peace, dear Melisa. You will always be loved, deeply missed, and never forgotten.

“With a heavy heart, we say goodbye, but in our memories, you will forever reside.”

There will be no Repass
