A Birthday compliments and panegyric to a Humanist( Zarty Eric Gayee Diahn)

I once read an article in which the narrator portray that GOOD PEOPLE are scarce, at such any benevolent person recognized should be honour and celebrated like Martin Luther King jr, Nelson Mandela and Abraham Lincoln.
A year ago I also read an African proverb which says and I quote, "When a labourer is Honoured or praised, his cutlass will always work more".

Poem Entitled: Grief In A Nutshell
____________________________

I write this poem, for the orphans,
Those that dreamed to discern the touches of parents,
And for others that are exhausted of Keeping prayer requests of depression under their tongues.

This is for them,
Without homes to dream about futures,
For those that reserve pain, in their bodies,
And those that struggle to pick up oxygen from dumpsites.

I write this poem, for those reflecting grief with smiles
For the sick, and the blind,
The ones screaming from thunderstorms under the cold,
To them whose skins suffered sunburns from sleeping on market tables.

I write this poem, for r**e victims,
For the underprivileged,
To those that see life as a nightmare,
For the broken and depressed.

A short history of ritualistic activities in Maryland:

Between 1965 and 1977 over 100 murders occurred in Maryland County, many of which were killed ritualistically due to the mutilation and removal of body parts. During the 1970s, Liberians in Maryland County were constantly under the threat of ritual murders. Between November 1976 and July 1977, 14 people had disappeared in the county prompting Liberian president William Tolbert to fire Superintendent of Maryland County, James Daniel Anderson, who failed to report the missing people. Tolbert publicly declared "Anyone who kills deliberately: The law will kill that person".

These murders went unreported and uninvestigated until the murder of a local fisherman and popular singer, Moses Tweh. Tweh was abducted on June 26, 1977. His body was discovered on July 4, 1977, heavily mutilated with his eyes, ears, nose, tongue and p***s removed. Prior to the discovery of Tweh's body, Wreh Taryonnoh, the girlfriend of Assistant Supervisor of Schools, Francis Nyepan, was allegedly heard by a group searching for Tweh saying that "if they would be so lucky to find him, only his bones they might see". This sparked the arrest of 12 people, a majority of whom were government officials.
In July and early August 1977, 12 people were arrested:

Liberia Creeps Into Dark Days, As Western Sector Turns Bloody

gnnliberia.com9h

One of the victims of the violence

As the much anticipated December 8, 2020 Midterm Senatorial Election draws closer, and aspirants are doing all to capture the hearts of voters, Liberia’s western region is said to be engulfed with electoral violence making many to sustain serious injuries, particularly in Grand Cape Mount County.

Residents of Grand Cape Mount County are living in fear due to what many called ‘Blood Bath’ which took place last weekend between supporters of the Alternative National Congress (ANC) aspirant Simon Taylor and the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) aspirant Victor Watson, who is alleged of trucking people from Sierra Leone to register in the ongoing voter roll update in that part of western Liberia.

At least three persons have reportedly sustained major injuries, including a journalist, Omaska Jallah of the News Newspaper. The incident occurred at two separate locations in the County.

This latest incident which took place early this week in that part of the Country has created fear in many Liberians, many of whom who foresee their Country returning those dark days, where innocent people are usually killed for nothing just for others to ascend to state power at the detriment of their victims.

As situation around the country, specifically in western Liberia gets worsen, the electoral body of Liberia, the National Elections Commission (NEC) must see reason to bring to book those reportedly in the trucking of voters from one place to another which has given rise to electoral violence and frauds in that part of the Country.

Few weeks ago, it was reported by this outlet about the hiring of over eight hundreds foreign nationals, mainly the Fulanis by Grand Gedeh County District # 2 Representative, Emmanuel Zoe Pennue to vote for him in the upcoming midterm senatorial elections scheduled for December 8, 2020.

This report was incredible to many Liberians w

NEC Chairperson, Davidetta Browne Lansanah

Following weeks of calls and inquires by Liberians regarding a report published by this platform that some foreigners were been recruited in Grand Gedeh and Grand Cape Mount Counties by politicians to vote for them illegally, the GNN has resolved to publish some of the names who were illegally given voters’ registration cards to vote in Liberia’s midterm senatorial elections scheduled for December 8, 2020.

Already, some Liberians are fearing the upcoming midterm senatorial elections will be chaotic and troubling judging from the mishap that are currently occurring.

They are calling on the National Elections Commission (NEC) to postpone this election, making specific reference of the reported trucking of voters from one place to another by aspirants.

Mr. 'Budget Surplus', hello! Few things come to mind whenever we hear you intellectualize the economy.

How come we have 'Surplus' but cannot settle our obligations with international organizations?

We have 'Surplus', but why do we have people regularly agitating for their salaries and Benefits?

With this 'Surplus', why is it that the health sector is so much challenged at a time when we are faced with this global health crisis?

You say 'Surplus' budget, but why are the disabled people crying for help?

Wait na, this 'Surplus' was only realized on paper without a practical effect on the poor people?

But wait na, this other 'Surplus' is only meant to fund campaign basically in Montserrado?

Liberia: Sen. Saah Joseph Says Nimbaians Should Snub Pres. Weah in 2023 If He Doesn’t Pave Ganta-Southeastern Corridor

Senator Joseph acknowledged that the President and the party appreciate the level of support from the people of Nimba during the 2017 elections and vowed the CDC-led government will do all in its power to address the road problem which the county and the southeast have been grappling with for years.

Ganta, Nimba County – Montserrado County’s Senator, Saah Joseph has told the people of vote-rich Nimba County to not vote for the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) in 2023 if the Weah-led Government fails to pave the Ganta to Zwedru Road by the end of its six-year mandate.

Senator Joseph said the road project is one of the government’s top priorities, and with the level of engagement ongoing, he was confident the project will be completed before the 2023 presidential election.

The Montserrado County Senator, who chairs the Senate Committee on Executive, spoke recently in Ganta, Nimba County, where he had gone to represent President George Weah at a program marking the induction ceremony of members of the Board of Trustees of the Prince Y. Johnson Polytechnic University.

“The People of Nimba County voted massively for the CDC and we will not allowed you people to suffer from bad road conditions,” he said.

During the 2017 presidential election, Nimba County voted massively for then Senator Weah and the CDC. The votes, which were inspired by the County’s favorite son, Senator Prince Y. Johnson’s endorsement of the CDC was pivotal in propelling the party to victory.

Thursday Protest Turns Bloody, As President Weah Blasts Protesters For Presenting Petition To U.S. Embassy

Liberian Leader, President George Manneh Weah

After reportedly failing to show up at the ongoing protest scene for three days to receive a petition from the anti-r**e campaigners, President George Weah said it doesn’t make sense for Liberians to present their petition to the United States embassy near Monrovia following their refusal to present it to his officials designated by him.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with state radio, the ELBC, President Weah said Liberians should muster the courage to present their petition to the relevant institution if they have issue that must be addressed by the state.

He said the issue of r**e in the country should not be politicize, and that Liberians should take the matter seriously, and further frond on the protesters for rejecting his decision for his officials not to receive the petition who were charged with the responsibility to receive the protesters’ petition.

Meanwhile, the third day of the ongoing protest, Thursday, August 27 the scene of the protest was bloody when riot police well-armed used accessible force by using teargas to disperse peaceful protesters who were demanding to march to the United States embassy in Monrovia to present their petition

Liberia: Cllr Pearl Brown-Bull Cautions Pres. Weah To Remove His Picture From Referendum's Banners; She Says It’s Not A CDC Project

frontpageafricaonline.com7h

Speaking with journalists at her offices on Randall Street, Central Monrovia over the weekend, Cllr. Bull frowned on the National Election Commission (NEC) for not standing up to the President and tell him that his action is wrong and violates the election law.

Monrovia – Cllr. Pearl Brown-Bull, one of Liberia’s outstanding lawyer and a signatory to the 1986 Constitution, has called on President George Weah to take down the banner displaying his picture and the propositions for the upcoming referendum down. She says, campaigning for the propositions now when the NEC is yet to declare campaign is a complete violation and disregard of electoral law. Also, she noted that the referendum should not be regarded as a CDC project, rather a national project, therefore, it is wrong for his picture to be used as campaign material for the propositions of the referendum.

“That billboard what you (President Weah) get up there for the referendum; take your picture down because it’s a national issue. It’s not the CDC thing. It’s not one of your projects. Take it down,” Cllr. Bull said.

She referenced Article 91 of the Constitution which states, “This Constitution may be amended whenever a proposal by either (1) two-thirds of the membership of both Houses of the Legislature or (2) a petition submitted to the Legislature, by not fewer than 10,000 citizens which receives the concurrence of two thirds of the membership of both Houses of the Legislature, is ratified by two-thirds of the registered voters, voting in a referendum conducted by the Elections Commission not sooner than one year after the action of the Legislature”.

For over a month now the picture of President Weah has been placed on banners to sensitize citizens about the 2020 referendum. These banners are seen in various street corners and along major streets

Alphonso Davies: Five things you should know about Bayern Munich star

bbc.co.uk1d

Alphonso Davies says reaching the Champions League final with German club Bayern Munich is "a dream come true".

The 19-year-old joined Bayern from Canadian side Vancouver Whitecaps in 2019.

He is set to become the first Canada international to play in the final of Europe's elite club competition, when Bayern take on Paris Saint Germain on Sunday.

Newsround takes a look at Alphonso's inspiring journey from being a refugee, to becoming a young star at one of football's biggest clubs.

From refugee to rising star

Davies was born in Buduburam, a refugee camp in Ghana in Africa.

His parents had fled there during the Second Liberian Civil War, which displaced more than 450,000 people.

"I was born in Ghana. My parents had to flee from Liberia so it wasn't easy running away. You don't know where your kids are, things are all over the place. I think three years ago was the first time I saw my sister," he told BBC Sport during an interview in 2019.

The family moved to the city of Windsor in Canada when Davies was four, and later settled in Edmonton.

"It was a tough time for the family, and I'm happy that they came to a good country like Canada, where we can be something," he said.

"So every time I step out on the field, I do it for my family. I do it for them."

Davies started his career playing for local clubs in his city - Edmonton Internazionale, Edmonton Strikers, the St. Nicholas Soccer Academy and the FC Edmonton Academy - making an impact wherever he went.

O Canada

Alphonso started his football career in Canada and went on to play for MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps

Alphonso had to wait another 13 years before he would receive his Canadian citizenship on 6 June 2017 after taking a test.

He told the BBC: "So going to the test, I was really nervous. I was like 'I don't know this' so I just guessed. And that was the only one I got wrong. I aced it!"

Emergency ECOWAS summit calls for reinstatement of Mali’s president Keita 0

cameroonconcordnews.com2d

An emergency summit of the West African bloc ECOWAS called Thursday for the reinstatement of Ibrahim Boubacar Keita as Mali’s president after he was deposed in a military coup on Tuesday. West African leaders said they would soon head to the country amid growing concerns about regional stability.

West African presidents plan to fly to Mali as regional powers escalate efforts to block a coup-driven regime change, two sources said, after an opposition coalition there joined the junta in rejecting foreign interference.

Leaders of the 15-nation Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) convened over the crisis on Thursday, after it suspended Mali, shut off borders and halted financial flows in response to Tuesday’s overthrow of President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita.

The bloc plans to send a delegation of presidents including the leaders of Niger, Senegal and Ghana to Mali’s capital, Bamako, to seek a resolution to the crisis, a regional diplomat and a senior official told Reuters.

It was not immediately possible to confirm the information.

The coup, which has rocked a country already in the grip of a jihadist insurgency and civil unrest, has been met with almost universal condemnation abroad.

Within Mali, the M5-RFP coalition of opposition groups said it was working with the mutineers. It labelled ECOWAS’s initial response to the coup over-reaction stemming from some regional leaders’ fears that it could set off unrest in their countries.

“(The leaders) are on an all-out drive to set ECOWAS against Mali,” said M5-RFP spokesman Nouhoum Togo.

The capital Bamako was calm for the second straight day on Thursday, a Reuters reporter said, as people appeared to heed earlier calls from junta spokesman Colonel Ismael Wague to return to work and go about their daily lives.

: Senator Yallah On the Run?... .for Failing to Settle Debt

allafrica.com2d

B**g county Senator, Henry Yallah is said to be on the run for failing to settle an amount of US$14,000(fourteen thousand United States dollars) owed ECOBANK Liberia.

As a result of his failure to settle the amount, the bank has issued legal action against him.

The senator took a loan of US$50,000(Fifty thousand United States dollars) in 2012 with an understanding that he would do settlement within for years.

"But since he credited the amount, he has refused to settle his obligation to the bank. He has been called several times to effect settlement, but failed to oblige," an insider close to the bank said.

As a result of his failure to do settlement, he has refused to meet the bank officials and refused to answer calls from any bank official for sometime now.

So, the bank took legal action against him at the Monrovia debt court. "He has been running away to accept the writ from the court. Whenever they go to his office, he tells his office officials that he is not in office," another person said.

When this paper contacted Senator Yallah over his indebtedness to the bank, he admitted.

"Yes it is true that I owe ECOBANK. But this is what happened. When I took the loan, I asked Afriland bank to buy the loan(pay) which they did," he said.

But he added: "Afriland bank paid off the loan. After that, I told the ECOBANK people to close my account. ECOBANK refused to close my account. Due to that, the interest accumulated now to US$14,000(fourteen thousand United States dollars)."

Asked if he informed the bank through official communication, he answered: "No. That is the mistake I made. I did not write them. But I will try to reach the bank so we can talk and see how payment plan can be made for me to pay."

But he added, he was not on the run. " I am here. It is just unfortunate that we are unable to settle this debt. I will try to see how we can sit for me to be making a monthly payment
