Ladies and gentlemen of the press, on behalf of the Ministry of National Defense and the Armed Forces of Liberia, we are pleased to welcome you to this press conference.
We are all aware of the Armed Forces of Liberiaโ€™s annual celebration, which is the Armed Forces Day.

The Armed Forces Day historically was legislated on February 11, 1957, with the sole intent of paying homage to the men and women of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) who are making tireless sacrifices to maintain the security of our nation as well as our non-active duty personnel and fallen heroes.

Each year, the President of the Republic of Liberia and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Liberia, by Proclamation declares February 11th as โ€œArmed Forces Dayโ€ to be observed as a National Holiday throughout the Republic.

The Proclamation directs all military and paramilitary organizations within the Republic to organize and execute appropriate programs in recognition of the Day.

It is interesting to note that this year, Lonestar Cell MTN, Liberty Investment and Jetty Trading Corporation in exercising their corporate social responsibilities are partnering with the AFL to honor the excellent work of the men and women in the military. It can be recalled that in 2021, Lonestar Cell MTN honored wounded AFL soldiers.

In 2023, with support from Lonestar Cell MTN, the Armed Forces of Liberia organized and executed a Mini- Sport Tournament, a Medical Outreach, a Clean-up Campaign, Units Static Display and a Symposium during the week leading up to Armed Forces Day.

Uniquely, on Monday, February 12, 2024, the AFL will be celebrating its 67th Armed Forces Day and 116 years of existence, dating back to 1908.

The Armed Forces Day celebration has always been used as an opportunity for the public, foreign guests and dignitaries to be acquainted with activities regarding the development and progress of the AFL.

The theme for the 67th Armed Forces Day is โ€œThe Armed Forces Support to Democracy: The role and responsibility of the AFL,โ€ while the topic for the symposium is โ€œThe Armed Forces commitment to sustainable democracy in contemporary Time.โ€

The 67th Armed Forces Day celebrations which begin on 4 February 2024 is interspersed with several activities that include the following:

We are aware of numerous unlawful security threats been calculated by their criminal gangs to scared thousands of peaceful Liberians who are currently waiting to come out on November 14, 2023, to exercise their rights to choose who they want.

Meanwhile, the citizens united to enhance transparent elections in Liberia over the weekend received a complaint that the Motorcade belonging to the Vice presidential candidate for the Opposition Unity party
Mr. Jeremiah Kpan Koung Vehicle was reportedly gunned at with several single-barrel guns while on his way to the southeast Between Nimba and Grand Gedeh to inform his people about the upcoming run-off election that where scheduled for November 14, 2023.

We believe that the weak regime is becoming more criminal-minded and extremely dangerous them we see them.

A few days ago Ghanaian residents and an IT specialist were reportedly arrested by the Liberian National police on some mere allegations of something unrealistic.
Since the arrest of the IT specialist, his whereabouts have been unknown.

The Citizen United to enhance transparent election in Liberia is calling the United States embassy near Monrovia the British government the Garman government the French government European Union the Press Union of Liberia the Reporters Association of Liberia International Contact Group and the Liberian Civil Society organizations including mass citizen movement in Liberia to open their eyes to this evil weak government danger practice.

We want an immediate investigation by the EU, USA and international partners. results on November 14, 2023.

The above-mentioned human rights ๐Ÿ‘‰ movement is requesting the EU/USA and all international entities immediate intervention to change the outlook of those dangerous act created by the Weah/CDC criminal squads to eliminate Koon and extend the leadership of Weah. This attempt is to also instill fear not only in the Nimbanians but around the country to have a low voters turn out against the UP.

There is also information that the CDC militants are gearing up to disrupt various facilities of the UP campaign team! The Nimba incident was instigated by a ministry of state senior staff Anthony Quonwonkpa that that unleashed the shooting on the UP VP convoy leaving several wounded and lives at risk.

Observers expected fraud in Liberiaโ€™s October 10 elections, but its extent shocked even those who had witnessed hundreds of polls. President George Weah may believe he can silence Liberians long enough to steal a second term. He may even think that, midway through a second term, he can hold an equally fraudulent referendum to dispense with term limits entirely, much like Central African Republic President Faustin-Archange Touadรฉra.

If Liberians remain silent, Weah could become president for life. He could continue to use Liberian resources to live large in Qatar, Monaco, and the French and Italian Riviera as ordinary Liberians go hungry.

The reality, however, is that the pain Liberia will suffer if Liberians remain silent in the face of Weahโ€™s fraud will be larger. Mali was once West Africaโ€™s most vibrant democracy. It per capita income grew 400 percent between 2000 and 2020, when it suffered the first in a series of coups. Its per capita has since declined every years and shows no sign of stabilizing. The same pattern also applies to Burkina Faso.

Countries which international organizations rank highly corrupt also are among the worldโ€™s most impoverished. In Africa, this is the case with Somalia, Eritrea, Burundi, Chad, and Guinea. Even oil-rich countries like South Sudan or Azerbaijan show deep poverty on a per capita basis.

Azerbaijan is an important case study, even if it is not African. It sits on hundreds of billions of dollars of hydrocarbons. British Petroleum, which partners with the state oil company, has paid billions of dollars to Ilham Aliyevโ€™s regime. Neither neighboring Armenia nor Georgia have oil and gas, and yet the citizens of these countries enjoy higher standards of living because their governments do no embezzle wealth. Within Africa, Rwandaโ€™s efforts to defeat corruption have led to steadily increasingly living standards in that tiny Great Lakes country, especially compared to neighboring Burundi and Uganda.

In 1992, Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori staged anautogolpe[self-coup] to ensconce himself in power. What followed over the next eight years of his rule was relative stagnation, especially compared to peer states like Mexico.

Weah may try to use the strategy employed by Eritrean dictator Isaias Afwerki to distract attention from his failures: Try to claim that any criticism of his corrupt and dictatorial rule is akin to Western colonialism and an affront to nationalist pride. Liberians should not accept that nonsense. Liberians have agency. They have free will. The โ€œAfrican solutions for African problemsโ€ mantra does not mean acceptance of incompetent, corrupt governance. After all, Namibia, Botswana, Ghana, and the Cรดte dโ€™Ivoire each show that democracy works while Rwanda, whatever its democratic deficit, also shows how countries can achieve their potential when they tackle corruption.

The simple reality is that no investors want to lose money. There is a reason why big firms station themselves in South Africa, Rwanda, and the unrecognized Republic of Somaliland, but avoid their neighbors oike Mozambique, Burundi, and Somalia proper.

Liberians must prepare for being treated like pariahs and rogues similar to Eritreans. Western countries might target sanctions narrowly against Weah, Monrovia Mayor Jefferson Koijee, Commission chair Davidetta Browne Lansanah, or Weah placeholder Edward Appleton, but such sanctions always impact ordinary officials. If Liberians accept a fraudulent election, they are complicit in the fraud. They may expect a series of ratcheting sanctions that will make it near impossible to gain visas to Europe or the United States, or receive remittances from relatives in those places.

The worst-case scenario, of course, would be an unraveling of the fabric of society in the way that leads to a new civil war. Liberians of all political backgrounds need to ask: Do they want to return to the era of Samuel Doe and Charles Taylor, or do they want to embrace a new, more prosperous era that puts the welfare of all Liberians
