Montserrado County, Republic of Liberia

Press statement for immediate release( March 26, 2024)

We strongly frown at unhealthy and divisive calls by few Liberians who have linked from Grand Cape Mount County that are pushing for the removal of Debar Allen as General Manager of Bea Mountain Mining Company (BMMC).

All Liberian citizens at home and abroad who have the professional and demonstrated experience have legal rights to work in any part of Liberia, with Mr. Debar Allen who has excellently performed at BMMC, being of no exception to freely work in Grand Cape Mount County as a General Manager of BMMC.

" We as Liberians need to denounce discriminatory, divisive and tribal campaign that is being designed by few selfish detractors who are echoing call for the replacement of Debar Allen as General Manager of BMMC, ".

Also, we differed with the propaganda ploy orchestrated by few aggrieved citizens who allegedly blamed Mr. Allen's presence at BMMC that is reportedly denying qualified Grand Mount citizens of occupying senior managerial positions at BMMC.

"Grand Cape Mount County citizens are presently holding managerial positions in Grand Bassa and other Counties in private companies in Liberia and as such, Debar Allen should not be targeted while serving as General Manager at BMMC.

Lastly, our performance evaluation of Debar Allen's leadership has indicated that he has impacted Kinjor and Cape Mount County at large with huge donations to health centers, education, rehabilitation of roads, building of hand pumps, loan for women' empowerment, employment of hundreds of Grand Cape Mount County citizens, electricity expansion, among other social corporate initiatives.

Bea Mountain Mining Company expresses Confidence In Allen's Administration

The Board of Directors and Senior Management of Bea Mountain
Mining Corporation has read with utter dismay, statements by some Liberians, calling for the removal of its Country General Manager, Mr. Debar W. Allen, an experienced Liberian administrator.

The statements and protests allege that Mr. Allen is responsible for the actions and inactions of the Company in matters concerning the performance of its obligations in the various communities and the Country.

For the record, Mr. Allen joined the Company in 2013 as a result of a nationwide search by the then CEO and President of Aureus Mining Company, Mr. David Reading, with the approval of the Board of Directors.

Contrary to what some may believe, the position of Country General Manager (General Manager for Country Affairs) is not occupied by a person recommended by the Government of Liberia. In fact, no such positions exist within the structure of the Company.

The Mineral Development Agreement (MDA) that Bea Mountain holds with the Government of Liberia calls for the hiring of qualified and competent Liberians, with no obligations to hire from any specific counties.

Mr. Allen is a model employee and Manager with an impeccable service record.

Companies look for employees of such that are ready, willing and able to serve with such long-term commitment and distinction.

Bea Mountain Mining Corporation is Liberia's first and largest commercial gold producer, providing employment opportunities for more than 3,500 Liberians.

Mr. Allen has contributed enormously to BMMC' success story with his commitment, dedication and expertise.
The Board of Directors and Senior Management of Bea Mountain Mining Corporation has no intentions of seeking his resignations.

It is also important to emphasize that whatever actions taken or not taken by the Company cannot and should not be attributed to anyone Manager; so the idea that Mr. Allen is responsible for the company not meeting its obligations to employees and communities cannot be further from the truth.

As a member of a team of more than 10 Managers who runs the business here in Liberia, he is continually seeking creative ways by which the Company can strengthen its social license both in the project areas and the country at large.

An example is the additional commitment to communities today known as the Clan Development Fund which he suggested and championed because the County leaders failed to access and utilize the Community Development Fund that now exceeds 1.3 million USD.

We call on those seeking his resignation or removal to cease, desist and instead join the company in finding more positive ways to strengthen the symbiotic relationships between the Company, the host communities and the country.

"'No amount of pressure or protest will cause the company to act illegally against any of its employees."
"Our confidence in our General Manager for Country Affairs, Mr. Debar W. Allen, remains strong, unwavering and uncompromising as he continues to serve at the will and pleasure of the CEO and Board of Directors."

Press statement for immediate release.
March 5, 2024

We as constructive intellectuals, gatekeepers and watchdogs of the Liberian society, call for peace, calm and non-violent engagements to create a cordial relationship, mutual respect between the people of Kinjor, Grand Cape Mount County and Bea Mountain Mining Company because, the two stakeholders depend on each other to make meaningful progress today and in the future.

We strongly hold the view that friendly interactions between the Bea Mountain Mining company, citizens of Kinjor and the Liberian government could bring togetherness, mutual understanding, win-win benefits for all stakeholders and the protection of all parties' interest, void of violence or instability.

It is an open secret that Liberia needs tax-compliance mining companies like Bea Mountain that is lawfully contributing to revenue generation of Liberia that is impacting all sectors of our country.

Presently, we are proposing a preventive action/ non-violent roadmap to be taken by the Liberian government and other stakeholders to discourage and prevent violent protest in the future in Kinjor, Grand Cape Mount County and Liberia at large. "

We strongly frown at the alleged destruction of Bea Mountain' properties and alleged incitement of violent by unscrupulous individuals for their selfish interest".

Our group also opposes the alleged unfriendly force reportedly used by the Liberian Police against the violent protesters while protesting.

" Those who allegedly incited the violent protest that led to the burning of Bea Mountain' properties and violence against Kinjor citizens, Bea Mountain, should be lawfully arrested, investigated and subsequently prosecuted to serve as deterrent in the future that might hinder Bea Mountain' operation and the denial of the Liberian government to generate lawful revenue ".

Lastly, Bea Mountain Mining has meaningfully contributed to the empowerment of thousands of people from all walks of life in Kinjor, Libera as well, building of Vocational School, employment of hundreds of citizens of Grand Cape Mount County / Liberia and presently contributing hugely to revenue payment in Liberia.
