Exciting news from the Ministry of Agriculture!

Today, April 2, 2024, at the Ministry of Information regular press briefing, Agriculture Minister Dr. J. Alexander Nuetah, unveiled the Peri-urban Agriculture Development Program. Set to kick off in Monrovia and its surroundings including Kakata, Gbarnga, and Ganta. This initiative aims to empower peri-urban dwellers by utilizing the swamplands in their backyards for agricultural purposes. The program will enable farmers to cultivate rice during the rainy season and vegetables during the dry season, contributing to food security and economic empowerment.

Under the Peri-urban Agriculture Development Program, the Ministry of Agriculture will actively recruit interested farmers and provide essential technical support. This initiative not only promises to enhance agricultural productivity but also underscores the government's commitment to fostering sustainable and inclusive growth across the nation. Liberia International NGO (LINGO) Forum Engages Ministry.

Liberia International NGO (LINGO) Forum is fostering stronger ties and collaboration with the Government of Liberia to bolster development efforts across the nation. Under the banner of LINGO, various international partner groups have come together to enhance communication, information sharing, and capacity building among national and local partners across diverse sectors.

Thursday, March 28, 2024, representatives from LINGO met with Agriculture Minister Dr. J. Alexander Nuetah and senior officials from the Ministry of Agriculture. This meeting served as a platform to update the Ministry on LINGO's past and ongoing interventions in Liberia, emphasizing their commitment to implementing development and relief projects across all fifteen counties.

Minister Nuetah expressed gratitude for LINGO's contributions and outlined the Ministry's focus on enhancing agricultural development. He highlighted plans to support smallholder farmers and improve infrastructure, such as road rehabilitation projects, demonstrating a shared commitment to promoting sustainable agricultural practices and improving livelihoods nationwide.

Dr. Nuetah called on LINGO’s members to consider some farm-to-market roads as part of their intervention activities where necessary. He assured that such intervention will help improve the farmers’ access smooth transportation of their produce.

Agriculture Minister Visits Farmers In B**g County

Liberia Agriculture Minister, Dr. Alexander Nuetah and other high-ranking officials of the ministry on March 17, 2024, visited the farm of the Fuamah District Multi Purpose Farmers Cooperative in B**g Mines, Fuamah District, Lower B**g County.

The purpose of the visit was for the minister and the newly appointed team at the ministry to acquaint themselves with the level of work being carried out with Fuamah District Coops.

During, the visit minister Nuetah pledged the government's commitment to support the farmers to produce more food for the country.
