Woman, 52, Cries For Justice In Nimba

Madam Nohn Gbanah, a 52-yr-old woman, says her grandchildren are dying slowly from hunger due to the prolonged detention of their father in Sanniquellie, Nimba County.

Speaking, the old lady explained that her daughter, Alwinda Dassen, who served as one of the jurors, was declared wanted by the 8th Judiciary Circuit Court for jury tampering.

According to the old lady, her daughter’s husband, who was taking care of the children, is in jail for the same case.

“I don’t know the whereabouts of my daughter, the children are dying of hunger, and their father is in jail for speaking over the radio against the court; I am begging the government or Supreme Court to help look into the case,” Gbanah lamented.

During a visit to her residence in Sanniquellie, some of the children were eating palm seeds, while others were sitting beside their grandmother at the back yard.

When this paper contacted the police station in Sanniquellie to find out about the arrest and detention of Pastor Abraham Dassen, police referred the paper to the court, on grounds that County Attorney, John Miah, withdrew the case from the station.

Speaking in separate remarks, Sanniquellie Christian Community pastors frowned at the court, saying the action of the court to jail Pastor Dassen for more than three weeks for speaking over the radio is worrisome.

When this paper contacted the Central Prison in Sanniquellie, the prison guard confirmed the detention of Pastor Abraham Dassen and Deputy Marshall of the 8th Judiciary circuit Court.

“Wednesday, April 10, 2024, will make Pastor Dassen and the Deputy Marshall one month, ” the prison security revealed.

Hon. Taa Wongbe Writes:
Big news for District 9, Nimba County! Only 3 out of 78 towns in our district have direct access to the internet and we're focused on changing that. We're proud to announce our partnership with K-COMM to pilot test alternative technologies to bring the internet to our people.

Starting with Kwendin clinic, we're using low orbit satellite KA band technology, running at a speed of about 25mbps, with two Access Points, one indoor and one outdoor, with a range of 300-500 meters. And we're going to run this system using solar! This is the first time the people of Kwendin will have direct access to the internet without driving to Tappita.

But that's not all. We've formally written both Orange and Lonestar Cell MTN to request more receivers and towers with internet in key towns in our district. We've also reached out to the folks at Elon Musk's SpaceX Starlink.

We believe that access to the internet doesn't only enhance communication, it also increases access to learning opportunities and information. We're excited about the opportunities that this will bring to our district. Stay tuned for more updates! 🙏🏾🙏🏾

LNP Launches Find Officer Web-Based Application to Enhance Transparency and Public Trust

In a bid to foster transparency and strengthen the relationship between the police force and the public, the Liberia National Police (LNP) has officially launched the Find Officer web-based application. This innovative tool can be accessed through the LNP official website at www.lnp.gov.lr or directly through findofficer.org.

The Find Officer application is designed to provide citizens with valuable information about LNP officers, including their names, photos, rank, and assignments. Each LNP officer is assigned a unique four-digit number, which can be easily located on their uniforms. By simply entering this number into the application, users can access relevant details about the officer in question.

Moreover, the application offers citizens the opportunity to commend or lodge a complaint against an officer, further promoting accountability and responsiveness within the police force. By empowering the public to engage with law enforcement in this manner, the LNP aims to build trust and confidence in its operations while also encouraging positive interactions between officers and the community.

The launch of the Find Officer web-based application marks a significant step towards modernizing policing practices and embracing technology to improve public service delivery. As the LNP continues to prioritize transparency and accountability, this initiative demonstrates its commitment to fostering a safer and more inclusive society for all Liberians.
