May 3 each year serves as a reminder to governments around the world of the need to respect their commitments to press freedom; it's also a day for media professionals to reflect on the challenges to free press and ethical journalism.

Just as importantly, World Press Freedom Day is a day of support for media practitioners and institutions, which have been targets of violence and other forms of restraint around the world. It is also a day to remember those who have lost their lives in the pursuit of free speech.

In Liberia particularly the government has committed itself to continuous reforms that will create a safe space for all journalists to work unfeterred.

The Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism wishes journalists and other media professionals a happy world Press Freedom Day.

The Ministry of Education echoes WAEC Liberia, informing all students, parents, school authorities, and the general public that the West African Senior Secondary Certification Examinations (WASSCE) will be administered from Tuesday, May 31, 2022, to June 17, 2022. The results will be released on July 30, 2022.

Therefore, schools are mandated to not perform any graduation ceremonies until the release of the said results.

Hence, only students who successfully pass any three (3) subjects in the WASSCE, as per the Ministry's policy, will be allowed to participate in graduation ceremonies.

The Ministry also wants to remind all school administrators and authorities to observe the ban on parades for Gala-day programs. Furthermore, gala-day programs should last no more than two school days. Institutions found violating and parading through the major streets, obstructing the free flow of traffic, will be penalized.

WAEC Liberia announces adjustment in July 19-23, 2021 National Examination timetables to accommodate the Eid celebration on Tuesday, July 20, 2021

West African Examination Council of Liberia says it has made adjustments in its examination timetable to allow Muslims students observe Abraham’s Day celebration


WAEC said the latest decision in the change of its National Examination date followed an intense negotiations with the National Muslim Students Association and the Liberia Islamic School Secretariat.

The two institutions, according to WAEC, opted for special dispensations to be given Muslim students who will be writing the exams on Abraham’s Day.

Addressing Reporters on Wednesday, the Head of WAEC Liberia Dale Gbotoe said there will be no examination on Tuesday July 20 in order to afford Muslim students to join their families in observance of the Islamic Festival.

Gbotoe added that the examination will continue on July 21 with 6 graders continuing their test.
