Poem entitled: The Beauty Of The Struggle
-----------------------------------------------------------------

In shadows cast by trials, beauty weaves,
A tapestry of strength that hardship conceives.
Through struggles faced with courage bold,
Emerges a story, timeless and untold.

Each challenge met, a brushstroke refined,
Painting resilience in the heart and mind.
The beauty of the struggle, a silent song,
Echoing the resilience that makes us strong.

Adversity, a sculptor shaping the soul,
Carving character from a challenging scroll.
In every battle, a chance to find grace,
A testament to the strength we embrace.

Amidst the chaos, a resilient bloom,
A flower of hope that dispels the gloom.
The beauty of the struggle, a paradox clear,
A source of growth, dispelling every fear.

Crying loud in the battle, we shouted long live CDC! Yet we were deceived by our own seeds, out of greed they satisfied their deeds. Let the God of George judge the scene. Of course, we bleed blue no matter what!

In our veins roll blood, but blue they appear to deal with our fear. Men tried to cure our wound, yet they couldn't see the good. Yes! we bleed blue no matter what, for that's the beauty of the struggle.

So let the winds of challenge fiercely blow,
For in the struggle, true beauty does glow.
Through stormy seas and mountains tall,
We find our strength, rising after the fall.
After all, the beauty of the struggle brought us this far!

Africa: Israel declared war on the Palestinian militant group Hamas after it carried out an unprecedented attack by air, sea and land on Saturday.

The large-scale surprise assault has left at least 900 dead in Israel, prompting a lethal volley of retaliatory Israeli airstrikes on Gaza that killed at least 687 people.

As they retreated into Gaza, the militants claimed to have taken at least 100 hostages with them and have threatened to kill them if airstrikes target Gaza without warning. Israel has pledged that Hamas will pay a heavy price.

MONROVIA – World Bank Gives US$300M To Liberia For Construction Of Second Hydro Dam.

By K. Ericson Sayee

July 14(LINA) – As part of support and contribution towards Liberia’s electricity sector the World Bank has provided US$300 Million to Liberia for the construction of a second Hydroelectric Dam (SP-2) further up the St. Paul River in Lower B**g County.
This project, when completed, will significantly increase Liberia’s hydropower generation capacity by an additional 150 megawatts. This hydro project will be the second of four dams to be constructed along the St Paul River.
The Government of Liberia has made it a priority to provide huge access to electricity for all citizens and to light up the country by placing key interest in the construction of a Hydroelectric Dam on the St. Paul River which will be considered as the largest dam with the capacity of 150 megawatts.
According to a statement from Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC), The World Bank announced the pledge at a donor conference jointly organized by the Bank and the Republic of Liberia, acting through the Ministry of Mines & Energy and the Executive Mansion, on July 5, 2023.
In announcing the pledge, the World Bank’s Energy Practice Manager said that they are motivated to support the Project by LEC’s spectacular financial and operational performance over the past year and the trajectory of these performance indicators.
He highlighted other projects in LEC the Bank is currently supporting, including the repair of Unit 1 at the Mt. Coffee Hydropower Plant, maintenance of thermal power plants at Bushrod, expansion of Mt. Coffee by two additional turbines and generators, and distribution and transmission and technical assistance projects and encouraged other donors to support the LEC and the energy sector”, the release said.
The World Bank’s Energy Practice Manager further praised LEC as the only utility in West and Central Africa that is reducing electric distribution losses at a level not seen elsewhere and extolled the government of Liberia for meeting the prerequisites for hosting the Donor Conference, which included the establishment of the Steering Committee, setting up the Financial Mobilization Team, and setting up the Project Implementation Unit within LEC.
The event, held at the Bank’s office and the German Embassy in Monrovia, was attended by representatives of Liberia’s development partners, including foreign governments and development finance institutions.
Those in attendance include representatives from the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, European Union, African Development Bank, International Finance Corporation, Japan International Cooperation Agency, and the West African Power Pool.
Also in attendance were officials from the Executive Mansion, the Ministries of Mines & Energy and Finance & Development Planning, and the Liberia Electricity Corporation represented the Republic of Liberia.
It intimated that Hon. Gesler E. Murray led the Ministry of Mines & Energy, while Hon. Augustus J. Flomo led the team from the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning. The Liberia Electricity Corporation was led by its Acting CEO and Chairman of the Board, Hon. Monie R. Captan.
In a speech read on his behalf by the Presidential Legal Advisor, Cllr. Archibald Bernard, also a member of the SP2 Steering Committee, the President of the Republic, His Excellency Dr. George Manneh Weah, said that his vision of providing the people of Liberia with reliable and affordable green electricity is becoming a reality.
“He said that his government is looking beyond SP2 to the bigger picture of SP4 and the Via Reservoir that will provide all-year-round hydroelectric energy for Liberia. He said that green energy generation is at the core of his Pro-Poor Agenda. He also noted that stable, affordable, and plentiful green energy can meet social, economic, and development needs; and even export excess power to other African countries”, Mr.Benarld asserted on behalf of the President.
For his part, LEC Acting CEO Hon. Monie Captan sees and describes the initial US$300 million as a dream come true for the people of Liberia and thanked the President of the Republic of Liberia, Dr. George Manneh Weah, for his countless contributions to Liberia’s Energy sector, as evidenced by the government’s unwavering support for its Anti-Power theft initiative, which has made significant progress in curbing power theft by 20%.
Also speaking at the conference, UK’s Ambassador to Liberia, Neil Bradley, expressed his satisfaction with the development initiative and the progress made by the LEC through its Acting CEO, Mr. Monie R. Captan. He praised the government for supporting the LEC Anti-Power Theft Task Force, which has made significant progress in curbing power theft and increasing LEC’s customer base.
When completed, the SP2 Hydropower Project, together with the ongoing Mt. Coffee expansion project under RESPITE, will increase Liberia’s hydropower generation capacity to 278 megawatts.
With the current administration aims at creating access to electricity, the recent pledge of the World Bank will help to bring the vision of the government to reality where when the project is completed, there will be good electricity in the country that will help provide opportunities to the country’s economy and to the people of Liberia.

MONROVIA – US$30M Investors Offer Declined to Contest the Presidency ruins of Amb Boakai. - Henry Costa.

Executive member of the All Liberian Party Henry Costa revealed that Amb. Joseph Boakai and his Unity Party no longer share the same ideals.

In a Press release Monday, July 10,2023 at ALP Headquarter. Costa maintained that he received a 30 million USD offer from investors to contest the presidency ruins of Amb. Boakai, which he [Costa] declined, but appealed with his partners to direct the fund to source the campaign activities of the Unity Party.

Hearing news that Amb. Boakai agreed and proceeded to promise that he would never make the mistake of selecting Jeremiah Koung as his running mate as it would be devastating for the country.

Contrary to these assertions, the ALP maintained that Amb. Boakai ignored his promise and went on to select Nimba Senator, Jeremiah Koung whose vision deferred with the All Liberian Party.

“Our party, the All Liberian Party (ALP) no longer share the same ideals, vision, or values with Amb. Joseph Boakai and his Unity Party.

CNN— Twitter threatens to sue Meta after rival app Threads gains traction.

By Brian Fung, CNN
Updated 5:03 PM EDT, Thu July 6, 2023

Twitter is threatening Meta with a lawsuit after the blockbuster launch of Meta’s new Twitter rival, Threads — in perhaps the clearest sign yet that Twitter views the app as a competitive threat.

On Wednesday, an attorney representing Twitter sent Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg a letter that accused the company of trade secret theft through the hiring of former Twitter employees.

The letter was first reported by Semafor. A person familiar with the matter confirmed the letter’s authenticity to CNN.

The letter by Alex Spiro, an outside lawyer for Twitter owner Elon Musk, alleged that Meta had engaged in “systematic, willful, and unlawful misappropriation of Twitter’s trade secrets and other intellectual property.”

In response to reports on the letter, Musk tweeted: “Competition is fine, cheating is not.”

What is Threads? Here's what you need to know about the potential 'Twitter Killer'
The letter goes on to say that Meta hired former Twitter employees who “have improperly retained Twitter documents and electronic devices” and that Meta “deliberately” involved these employees in developing Threads.

“Twitter intends to strictly enforce its intellectual property rights,” Spiro continued, “and demands that Meta take immediate steps to stop using any Twitter trade secrets or other highly confidential information.”

Meta spokesperson Andy Stone flatly dismissed the letter. “No one on the Threads engineering team is a former Twitter employee — that’s just not a thing,” he said on Threads.

In the months since Musk acquired Twitter for $44 billion, the social network has been challenged by a growing number of smaller microblogging platforms, such as the decentralized social network Mastodon and Bluesky, an alternative backed by former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey. But Twitter has not threatened either with litigation.

Unlike some Twitter rivals, Threads has experienced rapid growth, with Zuckerberg reporting 30 million user sign-ups in the app’s first day. As of Thursday afternoon, Threads was the number-one free app on the iOS App Store.

The legal threat may not necessarily lead to litigation but it could be part of a strategy to slow down Meta, said Carl Tobias, a law professor at the University of Richmond.

“Sometimes lawyers, they threaten but don’t follow through. Or they see how far they can go. That may be the case, but I don’t know that for sure,” Tobias told CNN. He added: “There may be some value to tying it up in litigation and complicating life for Meta.”

MONROVIA – Criminal Court “C” at the Temple of Justice handed a non-guilty verdict to defendants in the US$100 million co***ne case.

The defendants were found not guilty of all charges levied against them including money laundering, unlicensed possession and importation of controlled drugs, and criminal conspiracy.

Those set free by the court on May 18,2023 are; Malam Conte, Adulai Djibri Djalo, Makki Admeh Issam, Oliver A. Zayzay, and among others.

Accordingly, Judge Blamo A. Dixon has ordered the Government of Liberia to return the defendants US$ two hundred thousand (US$ 200,000 )that was confiscated during the crackdown.

The US$100 million co***ne arrest is reported to have been the largest illicit drug burst across West Africa.

The arrest which was executed on October 1, 2022, was made possible with the support of the United States security agency following its arrival in Liberia.

However, the court’s latest judgment has generated diverging views among Liberians with many admitting that the country is far from achieving the fight against drugs and substance abuse.

The proliferation of illicit Drugs and substance abuse continues to threaten the population - a situation that has pressured the legislature to ensure the crime is nonbailable.

MONROVIA — Another Defense Witness Claims Gibril Massaquoi Innocence of War Crimes in Liberia.

With the second phase of the war crimes trial of an accused Sierra Leonean warlord before Finland’s Turku Court of Appeal in Monrovia ending on Friday, defense lawyers look to be getting the results they want, as all their witnesses say their client committed no crimes in Liberia’s second civil war, contrary to what prosecutors have

As it’s been in the past few days, another defense witness told the Court on Thursday that Gibril Massaquoi did come to Liberia for peace talks to end the war in his native country.

“It was in 2002 and 2001,” said “H2,” whose name is withheld to protect him from retributions. “He was negotiating peace. We had the Lomé [Togo] peace agreement; we had the Abuja Peace accord.”

Prosecutors questioned him over a prior statement to Finnish police that he had met Massaquoi in 2001 either in Kolahun or Voinjama. He said he had forgotten.

Massaquoi was a commander for the Revolutionary United Front (RUF), which aided the government of Charles Taylor, the Liberian President at the time to counter offenses from rebels from the Liberians United for Reconciliation and Democracy. Prosecutors say Massaquoi committed heinous crimes, including r**e and ritual murders in towns and villages in Lofa County, and at Waterside in Monrovia. But the Pirkanmaa District Court of Tampere did not agree with them when it ruled a little over a year ago that they had not proven that Massaquoi committed the crimes “beyond a reasonable doubt.”

H2 claimed it was Joseph “Zizar” Marzah who committed the ritual murders in Lofa. He alleged Marzah arrested civilians, locked them up, and set fire to the buildings they were in.

In an exclusive New Narratives/FrontPage Africa interview a year ago, Marzah denied the allegations and blamed Benjamin Yeaten, then head of the Special Security Service, now Execurtive Protection Service for the alleged murders. Yeaten remains at large. But Hz insists Marzah did the killings.

“Oh yea, he was the man in charge,” said Hz. “I saw that, and we were against him for what he did. Sometimes, I will communicate what I see on the front[lines].”

This phase of the hearings comes to an end with one major concerning issue: the Sierra Leonean did not approve the hearings on its soil, thus forcing the Court to hear nearly all the witnesses in Liberia. Even by that change of plan, some of the witnesses have not shown up. A prosecution witness is hospitalized in Sierra Leone, while a defense witness—a policeman couldn’t come to Liberia, because his superior didn’t approve his travel. This leaves the Court with the only option of admitting the witnesses’ statements to Finnish police into evidence, which will be done in Finland.

The Court leaves Liberia for Finland Friday. The final arguments of this marathon trial will begin January 5th. The verdict is expected later this year.

This story was produced in collaboration with New Narratives as part of its West Africa Justice Reporting Project

MONROVIA – Sen. Jeremiah Koung picked by Boakai, Planned to Distract Unity Party-CPP Insider Brags.

In series of conversations between Jeremiah Koung and the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) prior to him been picked by the former ruling Unity Party (UP) political leader, Joseph Nyuma Boakai was noticed to be part of a strategy to distract the UP.

According to the investigation, Koung’s revealing of conversations with the CPP, gave rise that he was being used to get Joseph N. Boakai to go after him, noting that “No one will have negotiations for over months on a VP pick. We never ever wanted Jeremiah Koung”, a source closed to CPP hinted.

Speaking further to GNN, the CPP source said, “We played the UP knowing they were desperate to compete with us for running mate. We knew JNB would go after anyone he confirmed was in conversation with us, which is why we kept our names tight”, the source narrated.

Giving details of the plan by meeting Koung, our source also indicated that, “Even if our choice was a running mate from Nimba, it wouldn’t be PYJ’s son and party’s Standard Bearer, the US government has been clear about their position on PYJ and we won’t risk our traditional ally and partner support to this country. So, yes, we met Koung as part of our strategy.”, our CPP insider told the GNN via mobile phone.

The source further explained that, “Cummings never promised Koung VP. While people around Cummings may have offered him Vice Standard Bearer post, Cummings only asked him to work together because we needed to give him something to negotiate with UP on. He even recommended folks from his camp we should talk to; some we did. Some we did not. We knew Koung was our bait to distract the UP; they wanted a Vice Standard Bearer with money. And every time it appeared the UP wanted to look other places, we met with Jeremiah Koung and they finally caught the bait”, GNN CPP insider speaking noted.

Concluding on the issue, the source also disclosed that, “They imagined us to be in a race with them for him when we actually wanted them to have him! Nothing in politics happens organically. Koung knows he was played and UP knows they were played and now he’s saving face”, our source further hinted

MONROVIA – Unity Party announced its Vice Standard Bearer-October 2023 Election

“Leaders of the great Unity Party
My Fellow Loyal and Dedicated Partisans, Supporters and Well-wishers of the Unity Party
Fellow Leaders and Partisan of our Allies and Collaborating Political Parties
Friends of Liberia
Members of the press
Fellow Liberians

GOD IS GOOD ALL OF THE TIME! GOD HAS BEEN GOOD TO ME. I AM WELL AND READY TO LEAD!
Today after several years, months, weeks and days of intensive consultations, alignments, realignments, vetting and soul-searching, we have come to announce RESCUE TWO, our Partner for the ensuing October 10, 2023 Presidential Elections in our mission rescue Liberia.

”When I set out on this journey many years ago, my focus was and has always been on one agenda: COUNTRY FIRST, LIBERIA FIRST! I am on record to have said to the Liberian people that “Liberia is not a poor country, but the perennial problem of this country is mainly triggered by greed, the lack of sound and honest leadership,” little of which we have experienced in the last several decades of our nearly 200 years of statehood. I am also on record saying that “I have a mission, and that mission is to ensure that the lost image of Liberia is restored.” So, on this momentous day, as God has given me the strength and His good grace to join millions of citizens in taking another step in the mission to rescue this country, it is my honor and pleasure today to announce to the people of Liberia the much-anticipated selection of my vice presidential choice for the 2023 presidential Election-RESCUE 2.

In our search, we interacted with a lot of qualified and committed Liberians and foreign partners, sought guidance and advice on how we can address the hemorrhaging leadership deficit in our country and we would like to thank everyone for their service, support and commitment to our country. We can assure everyone of a leadership of inclusion. There’s much to offer in the coming campaign and the future government when we earn the confidence of the people of Liberia.

”In my search for a running mate, I sought to find someone who would join me as a partner and build a dedicated team of leaders to rescue our country. I wanted someone young and energetic who will commit to integrity and accountability in governance, commit to reconciling and healing our country and who by their early upbringing understands and connects with a youthful generation and nation still traumatized by war and denial but yet is an example to success. And more importantly someone who knows and experienced how it feels to live in a nation with no hope. Let me assure you that the person I did not look for is a SINLESS ANGEL. However, that person must be one who understands the suffering of our people and is willing to rescue them.

Our search for a running mate as I said earlier, was not a search for a sinless angel but a real human being whose imperfection and belief in God compels him into seeking redemption and imbibes the humility and willingness to work with a team that will make our country better. One who understands that life is about people not self. One who knows that collective progress will create a vibrant society and enhance opportunities for all.
Our mission will seek to reform the Presidency and develop a new leadership team to effectively manage our country with integrity, honesty and respect for human dignity.

Over the last six years, our country entered its lowest state; characterized by degradation of our value system, unprecedented economic hardship , devalued and demoralized civil servants and an upward trend in rewarding political patronage, a practice that has totally undercut the merit-based system.

Drug abuse, facilitated by the failure of this administration to stop its inflow. Stealing in government with impunity by officials has become an acceptable norm . Violations of our organic laws are no longer punishable. All of these are happening because the current government doesn’t listen and is not responsive to the needs of the people. The horrible leadership that Mr. Weah and his CDC have provided our country since January 2018 is killing our people and robbing young people of a future of hope and promise.
My Fellow Partisans and Liberians, I have come to you with a message of Rescue and Renewal.
When I set out on this journey, I have always been persuaded by and influenced by my personal upbringing and the story of my life. A story which reflects the story of many Liberians but this story has been tempered by the deep and abiding faith of what is possible in our country. We have lived through and experienced different phases of Liberia and yet one variable remains so scourging: the hopelessness and neglect of the citizenry but especially our youths.

”Fellow Liberians, I say with a debt of gratitude that we could not have come this far without standing on the shoulders of some key members of the opposition in the drive for a better Liberia. In the more than 5 years of opposition collaboration since the 2017 elections, I have come to appreciate in particular the unwavering support, dedication, commitment, and loyalty of the many who have stood with us in the quest to fight for the Liberian people against bad governance and economic deprivation.

”I particularly single out for their dedication to the cause, the standard bearer of the All Liberian Party Hon. Benoni Wilfred Urey, the political leader of the Liberty Party Sen. Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, and their partisans and supporters who stood with us through thick and thin to prove there is more that unite us than divide us in the fight for change. We will continue to stand together in this fight. Similarly, we thank political and social commentator Henry Pedro Costa for standing with us all these years and for the zest he brings to the conversation and debate about the purpose of public service, as well as his fierce convictions about course correction for Liberia. Sen. Abraham Darius Dillon has been a soldier in the opposition camp and has been flying the opposition banner high, and distance but reliable research social reformer, Martin N. Kollie. We will continue to count on them for the success of this rescue mission. We take this time to also thank Sen. Jeremiah Koung the political leader of the MDR, for his support in 2017, as well as more recently. We would be remiss if we fail to mention Dr. Chris Nyan, Prof. Alaric Tokpa and the NDC, Hon. Reginald Goodridge of the Rainbow Alliance, and Dr. Jeremiah Whapoe of Vision Of Liberia Transformation, for collaborating with us amidst the challenges.

My dear Liberians, the person I have selected as running mate, like many of you, shares my vision about building this country better than it has ever been, and like many of us, have a humble beginning, working very hard through the years to pull themselves up by their own boot straps to provide for family and their community. My running mate is compassionate, has experienced poverty, and, therefore, understands the plight of millions of Liberians struggling to survive in the country.
It is, therefore, my pleasure to announce Senator Jeremiah Koung of Nimba county as my choice for running mate in this year’s Presidential and legislative elections.

The man I have chosen today is young, energetic, and relates to the younger generation. At age 45, he connects with a generation whose denial and abuse have rendered them helpless and without hope but he did not allow the challenges of his youth to defy his ambition. With every challenge he sought to discover the immense possibilities that our country could offer. His early childhood was difficult but he endured selling fish at 12, gasoline and engaging in petty business but eventually rose to the heights of a leading Liberian Businessman in thriving Ganta, Nimba County.

He contested and won as Representative of Nimba’s District #1 twice and later became Senator of Nimba County.

In a country and where President Weah and his Government are engaged in industrialized looting and where corruption has become the new normal. In a nation where public service is the center for exploitation and ill-gotten wealth, in a nation where we take everything from the state and give nothing in return, Senator Koung has a record of giving no taking.

Senator Koung gains from private business was invested in building a hospital valued 2.5 million United States dollars which was later turned over to the Government of Liberia without any liability. This is the only government owned hospital now in Ganta. I dedicated it and gave some medical supplies at the dedication in 2016.

His endurance and success in business will stimulate added interest and commitment to improve Liberia’s struggling indigenous business environment.

Both Senator Koung and I will not only win these elections but intend to redirect the tragic course on which our country is now set.

Senator Koung joins me on a rescue mission for our country. Senator Koung and I have a lot in common. We both come from a struggling and working-class background. We both rose by our bootstraps and demonstrated how courage and vision can lead to success even where adversity was evident.
The Man I have chosen, like me, has the resilience, commitment and love of country.

This vice-presidential choice is a true Liberian who is willing to stand with me in fixing our economy, repair this broken system, reconcile and unite our people and provide a better future for our children. I, therefore, ask you all to join and work with us, close ranks and make the ticket a winning one for a better Liberia. Let us THINK LIBERIA, LOVE LIBERIA and BUILD LIBERIA.

Fellow Liberians, partisans of this great alliance, well-wishers and supporters, I now have the honor to present to you Senator Jeremiah Kpan Koung as the next Vice President of Liberia.

God bless you, and may God save our country.
Thank
