Congratulations to Nimba and Grand Gedeh counties for being the first two counties to qualify for the quarter finals stage of this year's National County Sports Meet. Host Grand Gedeh, paired in Group B alongside Montserrado, Margibi, and Grand Kru, won her first two games against Grand Kru and Montserrado with a score of 2-1 each. Grand Gedeh is currently topping Group B with 6 points.
Nimba County is paired in Group D alongside Host Grand Cape Mount and River Gee counties. Nimba defeated Host Grand Cape Mount County 2-1 and drew 0-0 with current champions River Gee County. Nimba currently sits on top of Group D with 4 points.

Grand Geded last group game will be against second place Margibi County on Saturday.

Sinoe County Senator Augustine Chea slams Abraham Darius Dillion Over Apology Statement

Sinoe County Senator Augustine Chea has come forward to criticize Senator Abraham Darius Dillion’s open apology to former Liberian President George Manneh Weah, terming it as a mere formality and a face-saving adventure rather than a meaningful acknowledgment of wrongdoing.

Senator Dillion, who was a vocal critic of the Weah-Taylor Administration, played a critical role in ensuring the election of Unity Party Standard bearer Joseph Nyumah Boakai at the disadvantage of the Weah’s Coalition of Democratic Change.

Montserrado County Senator Abraham Darius Dillion who previously criticized former President Weah over the constant usage of private jets has somersaulted over his previous stance, affirming that his criticism was ill-informed and lacked understanding.

Appearing on the OK Conversation on January 14, 2024, Dillion further confessed that his earlier stance against Weah was the lack of understanding of what he termed as presidential logistical realities. “In my role as a senator and a former critic of private jet usage, I want to publicly apologize to former President George Weah,” Dillon said. “I now understand that the presidency demands swift and secure mobility to address urgent national and international matters. Our critique during Weah’s presidency was misplaced.”

However, Senator Chea has sharply reacted to Senator Dillion's apology, further describing it as deception and political chicanery noting that it lacks sincerity and remorse. He contends that such a statement from his colleague is aimed at manipulating public perception amid growing disapproval of him.” This is not an honest apology, after all; it is deception and political chicanery. There is a lack of sincerity and genuine remorse. It was a clever attempt to manipulate public perception, as there has been huge public disapproval of him”, Chea added.

He added: “Senator Dillon does not have the spine or balls to criticize President Boakai over his use of a private aircraft as he did with former President Weah. So, the deceptive thing to do is to say that he was wrong for criticizing former President Weah.”

Meanwhile, all efforts to get a response to Senator Dillion did not materialize up to the time of this publication.

President Joseph Boakai Suspends Davidetta Brown Lassanah Over “Disruptive to Public Order”

President Joseph Nyumah Boakai has suspended Davidetta Brown Lassanah, Chairperson of the National Election Commission, citing disruptive to public order and stability.

Madam Lassanah's indefinite suspension stems from an investigation into administrative decisions made without proper consultation. During the suspension, Davidetta Brown Lassanah will not receive salary and benefits following the President’s mandate.

Citing legal reliance over his action, the president cited Section 2.1 and Section 2.10 of Liberia's 1986 New Election Laws.
