Protesters Halt Nyorwein Operations Over Alleged Mismanagement and Demand Transparency

Reporter: Methuselah Gaye, Focal FM County Correspondent

Protesters in Nyorwein District demonstrated against alleged financial secrecy and political manipulation by county authorities, accusing Superintendent Byron Zahnwea of mismanaging Plank Committee toll funds and favoring loyalists.

The demonstration, involving elders, youth, and Unity Party supporters, has halted Plank Toll Committee operations as protesters demand transparency and formation of an independent financial oversight body.

Tensions rose when protesters rejected county officials and insisted on meeting Superintendent Zahnwea directly, leading to chaos during the arrival of Mayor Mark Moton and Dennis Seboe.

Reports say Elijah Sammie, Secretary of the Plank Committee, was allegedly manhandled amid the unrest, heightening calls for accountability within Rivercess County’s local administration.

Protesters demand budget revisions, redirection of sports funds to infrastructure, and a full presidential investigation, warning demonstrations could expand if authorities ignore their concerns.

Lofa County Senator Momo T. Cyrus has donated a 43-inch Android Smart TV, forty-five plastic chairs, and a KVA Yamaha generator to the Wologizi Intellectual Forum.

The donation, made in Voinjama City, supports the forum’s transition from analog to digital engagement in promoting educational and civic discussions across Lofa County.

Senator Cyrus said the contribution fulfills an earlier promise to strengthen the institution’s national relevance and encourage informed community participation through modern technology.

The request for digital equipment was initially made by forum chairman Arthur Kowah, now serving as Chief of Office Staff in the senator’s office.

The senator urged young people to use the forum to engage government leaders constructively, promoting accountability and development through intellectual discourse.

EPA Boss Describes Liberia’s Forest as “Third Lung of the World”....

‎Environmental Protection Agency Executive Director, Dr. Emmanuel Yarkpawolo, has described Liberia’s vast green forest as the “third lung of the world.”

‎Speaking at the Ministry of Information press briefing on October 30, he said Liberia’s forest absorbs millions of tons of carbon, helping cool the planet.

‎Dr. Yarkpawolo disclosed that Liberia hosts about 43% of West Africa’s forest cover, including rich mangrove ecosystems vital to environmental balance and biodiversity.

‎He revealed ongoing plans to strengthen international partnerships aimed at enhancing forest protection and promoting sustainable climate programs across Liberia’s key ecological zones.

‎The EPA Executive Director further announced Liberia’s participation in the upcoming United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

‎He noted the global forum will allow Liberia to engage in high-level discussions on urgent climate actions and environmental resilience strategies.

‎According to Dr. Yarkpawolo, Liberia’s delegation will be led by Finance Minister Augustine Ngafuan, demonstrating the nation’s strong commitment to global climate reform.

Liberia, China Renew Agricultural Partnership to Boost Technology-Driven Farming....

‎Liberia’s Agriculture Minister, Dr. Alexander Nuetah, has participated in the 2025 International Conference on Agricultural Service Trade, held in Nansha District, Guangdong Province, China.

‎The conference, themed “Digitization-Empowered Value Chain,” was organized by China’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs to enhance trade collaboration and promote technology-driven farming innovations among partner nations.

‎According to a release from the Agriculture Ministry, the engagement reflects a strengthened relationship between Liberia and China, creating new opportunities for Liberia’s agricultural advancement.

‎A major outcome of the visit was the agreement to renew the existing Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Agriculture and Yuan Longping Agriculture Corporation.

‎Once legal and financial arrangements are finalized, Yuan Longping will resume operations in Liberia, focusing on seed multiplication, agricultural research, and mechanized farming initiatives.

‎The release disclosed that logistical challenges, including poor road access and delayed chemical supplies, previously hindered progress; however, Minister Nuetah promised improved project sites like B**g Mines.

‎Yuan Longping has long supported Liberia’s agricultural sector through the China Agricultural Technology Demonstration Center at CARI, Suakoko, a vital hub for hybrid rice research and innovation.

Land Dispute Sparks Chaos at Parker Pin, Store Set Ablaze.....

‎Parker Pin, a bustling commercial hub near Red Light—one of Liberia’s busiest business points—was thrown into chaos on Saturday, November 1, 2025.

‎Unconfirmed reports suggest the unrest stemmed from a long-running land dispute that remains unresolved despite several internal mediation efforts.

‎The tension reportedly escalated, leading to the burning of a store. Riot police responded by firing multiple rounds of teargas in an attempt to disperse the crowd.

‎Eyewitnesses said the incident triggered panic among residents and business owners, forcing many to flee for safety.
