Liberian Mental Health Specialist Advocates for Increased Awareness and Government Support

By Jeremiah Mulbah

In a recent telephone interview with Bana FM from the United States, a passionate Liberian mental health specialist Nyah Vululleh has called for heightened awareness and increased government investment in mental health programs in Liberia.

Nyah emphasized the critical need to address mental health issues, pointing out that a significant number of individuals in the country are grappling with various mental health challenges.

According to the expert, these issues often go unnoticed, with politicians and other influential figures overshadowing the plight of those dealing with mental health concerns.

Highlighting the urgency of the situation, Nyah urged the Liberian government to allocate more resources towards the development of comprehensive mental health programs.

This includes investing in training programs for individuals who can actively contribute to raising awareness and providing support for those affected.

To further address this crucial matter, the mental health specialist is collaborating with fellow Liberians in the diaspora to establish the Liberia Mental Health Association.

This association aims to serve as a platform for advocacy, support, and education surrounding mental health issues in Liberia.

The establishment of such an association not only demonstrates a commitment to addressing the challenges at hand but also signifies the unity and collaboration among Liberians abroad who are dedicated to making a positive impact on mental health in their homeland.

As the call for increased awareness gains momentum, it is anticipated that this initiative will garner support from both the diaspora and within Liberia, fostering a collective effort to destigmatize mental health, provide necessary resources, and create a more supportive environment for those struggling with mental health issues in the country.
