Tensions Rise as Campaign Materials Vandalized in Grand Bassa Count
By Staff Writer
Buchanan, Liberia - With Liberia's general elections less than a month away, concerning reports have emerged from Grand Bassa County's District #3. Several candidates, including Hon. Julia Duncan Cassell, have had their campaign materials vandalized by unknown actors.
"I am deeply troubled by the tearing down of my banners and flyers," said Hon. Cassell, a former County Superintendent running for representative. "This sends an unsettling message and could undermine the integrity of the electoral process."
Hon. Cassell promptly filed a formal complaint with the National Elections Commission (NEC), urging swift action. She stressed the need to identify and hold accountable those responsible to deter further acts of vandalism.
"A fair and peaceful election is paramount," Hon. Cassell asserted. "Any attempt to silence candidates' voices through destruction of materials is unacceptable."
With tensions escalating, the NEC's response will be critical. Stakeholders are watching closely to see how authorities address Hon. Cassell's complaint and bolster security around campaign materials in District #3.
As candidates make their final push before the October 10 vote, all eyes are on Grand Bassa County to ensure the democratic process prevails and the will of the people is respected. The coming weeks will test Liberia's commitment to free and fair elections devoid of intimidation.
