For immediate release!

Broad street-Monrovia, December 27, 2022: Unity Party is saddened by the sudden demise of the Founder and Political Leader of the People’s Liberation Party (PLP) Dr. Daniel E. Cassell.

News of the sad passing of the statesman flooded social media in the early hours of December 26, 2022. To the disbelieve of many supporters and well-wishers alike, it was later confirmed by family sources that he died as the result of heart attack in Pennsylvania, the United States of America.

Before his demise, Dr. Cassell, after his brief introduction to Liberia’s political landscape projected a shared vision with the Unity Party ideas of a Liberated Liberian society from the shackles of poverty.

He was often referred to as the “poverty doctor” by many of his supporters and admirers for his numerous interventions in the lives of ordinary Liberians.

The UP has lost a friend and a great man of immense conviction in the struggle for a better leadership for Liberia.

The UP extends it condolences to the PLP family, the Cassell family and all friends and supporters of the late Dr. Daniel E. Cassell.

The Party reaffirms its commitment to partner and work with the PLP, a legacy of Dr. Cassell, in the struggle for the total liberation of the masses of the Liberian people.

Liberia is incurring huge revenue losses – Is there any concrete solution to RIA nightmare? Yes, and here’s it

Activist Jackson Garbleejay Karr ll writes…

The RIA catastrophe poses security, economic, and diplomatic risks to Liberia. This situation has turned into a national emergency. Therefore, I would like to help find solution and this is how.

I read a few comments under my previous post pertinent to RIA debacle and two particular comments struck me: “Is Liberia losing revenue?” and “How much is spent on fuel?”

Part of my work as an activist is to dig out facts and promote national consciousness through accurate information dissimilation. So, I am going to answer just three (3) key questions:

1) Is Liberia losing revenue?

2) How much is spent on fuel to run RIA generator?

3) Is there any concrete solution to power outage at RIA?

Let’s begin with question #1 (Revenue Loss):

Whenever an aircraft reroutes or switches to Sierra Leone or any neighboring country, Liberia does incur or suffer huge revenue losses.

At RIA, there are two major charges or fees that are paid by commercial aircrafts or international flights, namely: Per Passenger Airport Tax and Per Aircraft Airport Tax.

Breakdown:

1) Per Passenger Airport Tax (PPAT):

a)Airport Tax – US$85
b) LR Tax – US$61
c) Utility Bills – US$3.96
d) Total Per Passenger – US$150.66

The SN Brussels flight that rerouted to Sierra Leone takes up to 270 passengers. So, let’s calculate: US$150.96 x 270 passengers = US$40,500.00. Technically, Liberia incurred a loss of 40.5k just on per pax tax. See attached document.

2) Per Aircraft Tax (PAT):

a) Aircraft Landing Fee – US$1,500
b) Aircraft Handling Fee – US$2,100
c) Total – US$3,600

3) Grand Total (PPAT + PAT) = US$44,100

Note: On just one aircraft (SN Brussels), Liberia lost over US$44,000. This could buy more than 800 gallons of fuel for RIA to run its generator all day.

'Not all about you'

Here's a thought that can give you access to higher levels of freedom and power.

It's not all about you.

When you're in the habit of taking everything personally, that imposes a heavy burden on your life. The liberating fact is, most of what happens around you is not necessarily directed at you.

People have all sorts of reasons for what they do. Very few of those reasons involve you at all.

There are plenty of times when it's perfectly reasonable to object to the actions of others. But if you elevate that objection to the level of taking personal offense, you only make it worse for yourself.

By all means disagree, but don't make that disagreement a defining part of who you are. Other people will live as they live, and there's no reason to contaminate your own life with obsession over their negative behavior.

It's not all about you. Keep that always in mind, and free yourself to live with excellence no matter what anyone else does or does not do.

The truth is that Liberia stable food is the topic in progress. Reminding me about Liberia rice conflict. In early April 1979, the Liberian Minister of Agriculture, Florence Chenoweth, proposed an increase in the subsidized price of rice from $22 per 100-pound bag to $26. Chenoweth asserted that the In early April 1979, the Liberian Minister of Agriculture, Florence Chenoweth, proposed an increase in the subsidized price of rice from $22 per 100-pound bag to $26. Chenoweth asserted that the increase would serve as an added inducement for rice farmers to stay on the land and produce rice as both a subsistence crop and a cash crop, instead of abandoning their farms for jobs in the cities or on the rubber plantations. However, political opponents criticized the proposal as self-aggrandizement, pointing out that Chenoweth and the family of President William Tolbert operated large rice farms and would therefore realize a tidy profit from the proposed price increase..
