Breaking News!!!

The House of Representatives summons former and current heads of the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) to appear before the plenary on Tuesday.

The officials are expected to give reasons why there was a breach of confidentiality concerning former President George Weah’s Assets Declaration that has been made public unlawfully.

The decision emanated from a communication written by Representative Frank Saah Foko of Montserrado District # 9 preying the house to invite the LACC officials to give reasons why the ex-President's assets declaration was displayed on Spoon TV without his approval.

Representative Foko contends the law is clear that a person can declare their assets, but the publishing of said document should meet their consent.

By: Elijah D.S.Pyne.

The Representative of Sinoe County District one, Thomas Romeo Quioh has called on Liberians to not use the highly anticipated War and Economic Crime as witch hunting.

CENTRAL BANK OF LIBERIA

PRESS RELEASE
CBL EXTENDS OLD MONEY EXCHANGE DEADLINE TO MAY 15, 2024

(MONROVIA – April 1, 2024 ) – The Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) announces the extension of the March 31, 2024 deadline for the currency exchange exercise by six weeks, up to May 15, 2024.

CBL Board of Governors at its emergency meeting held on Friday, March 29, 2024 resolved to extend the deadline for the termination of the legal tender status of the old banknotes and to continue the exchange exercise through the commercial banks and Rural Community Finance Institutions (RCFIs).

Despite the progress, the March 31st deadline was impacted by several factors, including the challenging road condition to counties in the Southeast and Lofa County, the General and Presidential Elections, the intensity of run-off Presidential Election, and the transitional process. The Bank was cautious about moving cash across the country during these situations.

The extension means that the old money, known as Liberian Series 1 or LS1 and Liberian Series 2 or LS2 banknotes printed before 2021 still remains legal tender until May 15, 2024 and can be used to buy goods and pay for services in Liberia.

After the new deadline, the old banknotes will not be accepted for exchange at any commercial banks and Rural Community Finance Institutions (RCFIs). The exchange exercise will continue only at the CBL facilities across the country.

The CBL therefore urges the public to take advantage of this extension to exchange their old banknotes and calls on the business community to continue to accept the old banknotes and deposit them at the commercial banks and RCFIs in exchange for the new currency.

Finally, the Bank extends its appreciation to all stakeholders, and more importantly the Executive and the National Legislature for their support in this national endeavor. The Bank looks forward to the full cooperation of the public with this new deadline to ensure a successful completion of this exercise.

END//////////

For more information on the currency exchange process, please go to the CBL website and page or call 5455

Liberians United for Boakai Election (LUBE-E)
Margibi County, Republic of Liberia
February 22, 2024

**Press Statement**
For Immediate Release

Addressing Dissatisfaction in Government Appointments

In response to recent concerns regarding dissatisfaction in government appointments, we, as Margibians, acknowledge the importance of fostering transparency and equity in the selection process. It is crucial that all appointments across all counties, including Margibi County, are based on merit and competence.

Especially recognizing those who worked tirelessly for the victory of His Excellency Joseph Nyumah Boakai's presidency, we stand firm against political opposition to the JNB and JKK election. Powerful political leaders like Senator James Emmanuel Nuquay, Senator Nathaniel Farlo Mcgill, Sekou Kalasco, Honorable Ansu Sonii, Hon. Dominic Kweme, Hon. Thelma Mason, Hon. James Massaquoi, Mr. Stephen H. Toe etc. Despite their financial strength.

Despite the lack of financial support from the Unity Party or the JNB and JKK Ticket, we, as an Auxiliary Group, campaigned vigorously throughout Margibi County. We are kindly advocating for qualified and competent Margibians to be included in government appointments.

We urge a reevaluation of the nominations list to ensure that qualified Margibians who have actively supported the cause are not overlooked. The recent nomination of Mr. James Aramah Massaquoi, who previously opposed JNB's election, for a prominent position at the Ministry of Education is a disappointment to us, as many qualified and competent partisans have been excluded.

Furthermore, Mr. James Aramah Massaquoi's nomination presents a conflict of interest due to his school in Gbandi Community, Kakata City, Margibi County. We respectfully request His Excellency Dr. Joseph Nyumah Boakai to reconsider this nomination and replace it with deserving Margibians from our county.

We propose the following qualified Margibians for consideration, along with their educational qualifications:
1. Dr. John S. Smith - Doctorate Degree Holder
2. Roosevelt S. V. Kortu Jr. - BSc, MPH, MED (Administration)
3. Hon. John Z. Buway - Bachelor of Science in Forestry, Master's in Education
4. Cooper B. Saysay - Bachelor in Civil Engineering, Master in Civil Engineering
5. Vilar Jackollie - Master's Degree in Agricultural Studies
6. Jerry Jenkin Quoi
Bachelor of Art in Public Administration & Master in Public Sector Administration and multiple Bachelor's degrees within the county.

To the President of the Republic of Liberia, His Excellency Dr. Joseph Nyumah Boakai, and Vice President, His Excellency Jeremiah Kpan Koung, entrusted by Margibians and Liberians to uphold fairness and accountability, we emphasize the need for a cohesive administration that truly represents the diversity and aspirations of our society.

We advocate for Margibi to receive its fair share of the national political cake πŸŽ‚

Thank you.

Radio Day 2024: History, significance and theme to celebrate

Radio is a form of mass media and communication that usually transmits music, news, and other programmes from a single broadcast station.

A cost-effective medium of communication, radio has played a vital role in reaching out to remote communities and vulnerable populations for ages. A day dedicated to highlighting the pivotal role of radio, UNESCO established World Radio Day to be observed on February 13, every year.

Radio is a form of mass media and communication that usually transmits music, news, and other programmes from a single broadcast station. Since its origin, radio has been a primary medium of communication.

From World War I to the present day, it has connected people from different remote regions, including rural and tribal areas where connectivity has been a big challenge. It has helped create awareness, educate, and connect the masses through a single device.

Happy World Radio Day to our committed followers, Lovers, support and partner, thanks for all you keep doing to keep Radio kakata on the path of all.

Mostly we want to extend our happy World Radio Day to all our workers , former and current workers.

PRESS RELEASE
ECOWAS, AU Deploy Four Data Management and Cyber Security Experts to NEC of Liberia

MONROVIA, September 27, 2023
ECOWAS and African Union (AU) have deployed four Data Management and Cyber Security Experts to lend critical technical support for and complement the efforts of the National Elections Commission (NEC) of Liberia to manage and secure the integrity of the election data system.

They will help in carrying out risk assessment of the election results management portal; review the results Management Portal and identify areas of improvement, if any, and support the installation, monitoring, and troubleshooting of Microsoft SQL Server and other RDBMS packages in production, development and test environment.

They will also assist with monitoring and troubleshooting databases and all database objects relating to the Complaint Management System and other applications. They will help maintain system software and applications software databases and implement and enforce the security of all databases.

The experts will work in close collaboration with NEC Data Management staff and will stay on for some time after the October 10, 2023 elections. They bring working experiences from Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Malawi, Nigeria, the US, and the Middle East, among others.
The preemptive move is coming at no cost to the Liberia taxpayers. ECOWAS and AU are bearing all expenses. Indeed,
two were hired by ECOWAS, while the other two by the AU as part of measures being taken by the two bodies to ensure the safety of the system, enhance its credibility, protect and improve existing measures to secure the integrity of the system.
