Ahead of the most anticipated National County sports meet, Margibi County Superintendent designate Madam Victoria W. Duncan held a strategic meeting with the leadership of the Margibi Sports Association, former Margibi County superintendent Jerry Varney, Moses Darmoue, and the MSA Chairman Abu Fofana.

"I'm powerless, I'm just a private citizen and can't do or act in my pending position now until I'm confirmed by the Liberian Senate, but this is a sum of 5,000 LD for water to smooth the practice as we turn around for more" she lamented.

The facility (Nancy B Doe Stadium) is incomplete as the superintendent designate took a tour of the area. She revealed that plans are underway to furnish the broken seats and other damaged parts of the field before the start of the tournament.

Margibi is set to take on Grand Bassa in the first game on Sunday, April 14, 2024 at 2:00 PM in both football and kickball categories.

Keep following for more updates regarding Margibi Bassa and Lofa counties in Group D.

Prince Johnson Signs Resolution for War and Economic Crimes Court as Senate Concurs with Lower House Endorsing a Joint Resolution to Form the Court

Tuesday, April 9, 2024

MONROVIA-Liberia, The Liberian Senate on Tuesday, April 9 concurred with the House of Representatives on the establishment of a War and Economic Crimes Court.

On March 5, the House of Representatives endorsed and signed a resolution calling for the establishment of a War and Economic Crimes Court in Liberia.

The decision to support the resolution came after a meeting with the US Ambassador-at-Large for Global Criminal Justice, Beth Van Schaack, and leaders of the lower chamber of parliament.

The document was immediately forwarded to the Senate for approval.

The Senate mandated its Judiciary committee to analyze the instrument and report to plenary in two weeks.

Following the committee’s report, 24 out of 29 Senators signed the Resolution behind closed doors, and the decision was read in the Senate’s session on Tuesday by Senate’s Chief Clerk Nanborlor Singbeh.

Nimba County Senator Prince Johnson, who was not initially mentioned on the list of Senators who signed the Resolution, accused Senate Pro-Temp Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence of not soliciting his signature.

After a brief exchange between Senator Johnson and Pro-temp Lawrence, the Nimba County Senator requested the document and affixed his signature.

Senator Johnson was followed by Senators Gbehzohngar Findley, Bill Twehway, and Geevon Smith, who also signed the document in an open session, bringing the total number of signatures to 28.

Maryland County Senator James Biney was the only Senator who did not sign the Resolution.

He stated that the Resolution violates Article 66 of the Liberian constitution, which grants the Judiciary absolute authority to carry out such functions.

According to him, the court cannot be established in Liberia if the Legislature is responsible for its ex*****on. He at the same time argued that establishing the court outside Liberia would have a lesser impact.

Once established, the court will address crimes committed by individuals during the civil war that lasted from 1989 to 2003 and resulted in the loss of countless lives.

Late Saturday afternoon, Kakata City was a tragic scene when citizens observed the roof of their houses flew away angrily.
Their eyes are full with sorrow and hearts with pain as they sit sadly under the cold weather thinking how their bodies will be sheltered during the night.

As a historical day in Liberia, April 6 has again made a sorrowful history in the lives of Margibians.
The storm was heavy and strong, and resulted to de-roofing more than 50-houses including schools, churches, private and public building amongst others.

The wind victims have expressed disappointment in the disastrous situation, and noted that they have no savings for such disaster.

One of the victims, Rev. Alexander Reeves of the Assembly of God Church in Bassa Community Kakata City, is calling on National Government, District 4 Representative Emmanuel Yahr and other humanitarian organization to come to the church aid.

He mentioned that the church is currently faced with lots of challenges, which is being compounded with the tension the violent storm has caused.

He spoke with our Margibi County Correspondent, Anthony Dahn over the weekend.
