At least 20 communities in Grand Kru County have commenced meetings on Customary Land Harmonization and formalization. The initiative is implemented by CIDRI. The meeting took place in Sass town, Jrao statutory District December 13, 2023 and will end in Bolloh Jlateken, December 15, 2023.
The consultation was focused on getting locals involved in the demarcation of Customary Lands.
According to CIDRI Chief Executive officer Abraham Sombai, it's important to get the local people involved since they are the direct occupants of the Traditional Lands. Communities participated in the consultation include: Jloh NiFu, Neara, Pitty, Betu, Filorkri in Sass town, and Botra among others.
The traditional leaders and other stakeholders who participated in the meeting described the initiative as timely especially who internal Land disputes are intensifying.
