The Ministry of public works Breaks Ground for the reconstruction of the Grand Bassa University Bridge.

The Government of Liberia, through the ministry
of Public Works has broken ground for the reconstruction of a bridge on the Benson River in Grand Bassa county that linkes the city to the Grand Bassa University, With funding from the National Road Fund of Liberia.
According to the Public Works Minister Ruth Coker-Collins,
The cost of the bridge is 1.1million United states dollars, and said it will reconnect The University to the City of Buchanan,
The Public works Boss said the Bally bridge will be 150 feet long 16 feet wide with the life spend of 80 years.
The ground breaking ceremony took place on Wednesday, April 27, 2O22 in the four houses community in Buchanan Grand Bassa County, bringing together the Bassa Legislative Caucus, formal government officials, the County Leadership, The Chairman of the board of trustees, the president, students and staff of the Grand Bassa Universarty.
Sparking during the event Grand Bassa County Superintendent Janjay Barkpah praised Predident George Weah for the initiative and the continues development most especially in the area of Road Connectivity and bridges, Superintendent Barkpah said it is about time for everyone to join hands in developing the county
For his part, Former Forgign Minister, Gbehzohngar Milton Findley noted that the bridge should not just be seen as a physical structure that will relink students to the University, but rather a link to education.
The oldage bride was constructed some 40 years ago by the
Liberian-American-Swedish Mining Company (LAMCO), for the use of their operations, currently the bridge is seriouly delibedated, not allowing vehicle to access the University Campus. Students riding on motor bikes have to get down to cross the bridge on foot for their safety. The bridge had been distribed as a death trap, but the ground breaking ceremony brought serious releaf to Students of the University, resident of the Communities and the administration of the Grand Bassa University.
The oldage bridge will be constructed by the Jupiter Construction company inc., according to the Public Works Minister a will take up to 18 months for construction work to be completed.
Engineering works are expected to start very soon.
