PRESS RELEASE ON A SHOOTING INCIDENT AT STAR BASE BUSHROD ISLAND INVOLVING ARMED FORCES OF LIBERIA PERSONNEL

Headquarters Armed Forces of Liberia has ordered a lockdown of its duty station at the Star Base, Bushrod Island after a fatal shooting at about 2030hrs on June 6, 2022, involving two of its personnel. This sad incident left one soldier dead and another severely injured, who is undergoing medical treatment and care at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center.
The motive behind the shooting is yet to be established. The Military Police is presently conducting investigations in collaboration with the Liberia National Police to establish the facts.
The public can be assured that all is under control and a preliminary report will be provided as soon as possible. The Headquarters Armed Forces of Liberia acknowledge that protecting military installations and the safety of its troops, dependents, and the general public is a priority.
Finally, identifying security solutions and gaps on our installations where we served is always a priority and all recommendations coming from the investigation will be taken seriously. The families of the victims have been contacted and the necessary support is being provided.
We ask the general public to remain calm as the investigation continues.

The Ministry of public works Breaks Ground for the reconstruction of the Grand Bassa University Bridge.

The Government of Liberia, through the ministry
of Public Works has broken ground for the reconstruction of a bridge on the Benson River in Grand Bassa county that linkes the city to the Grand Bassa University, With funding from the National Road Fund of Liberia.

According to the Public Works Minister Ruth Coker-Collins,
The cost of the bridge is 1.1million United states dollars, and said it will reconnect The University to the City of Buchanan,
The Public works Boss said the Bally bridge will be 150 feet long 16 feet wide with the life spend of 80 years.

The ground breaking ceremony took place on Wednesday, April 27, 2O22 in the four houses community in Buchanan Grand Bassa County, bringing together the Bassa Legislative Caucus, formal government officials, the County Leadership, The Chairman of the board of trustees, the president, students and staff of the Grand Bassa Universarty.

Sparking during the event Grand Bassa County Superintendent Janjay Barkpah praised Predident George Weah for the initiative and the continues development most especially in the area of Road Connectivity and bridges, Superintendent Barkpah said it is about time for everyone to join hands in developing the county

For his part, Former Forgign Minister, Gbehzohngar Milton Findley noted that the bridge should not just be seen as a physical structure that will relink students to the University, but rather a link to education.

The oldage bride was constructed some 40 years ago by the
Liberian-American-Swedish Mining Company (LAMCO), for the use of their operations, currently the bridge is seriouly delibedated, not allowing vehicle to access the University Campus. Students riding on motor bikes have to get down to cross the bridge on foot for their safety. The bridge had been distribed as a death trap, but the ground breaking ceremony brought serious releaf to Students of the University, resident of the Communities and the administration of the Grand Bassa University.

The oldage bridge will be constructed by the Jupiter Construction company inc., according to the Public Works Minister a will take up to 18 months for construction work to be completed.

Engineering works are expected to start very soon.

Methodist Compound Monrovia: The Association of Liberia Community Radio (ALICOR) says it is shocked by report of the burning of the community radio station, Radio Kimtoma in Voinjama, Lofa County.


The building that houses Radio Kintoma gutted fire during the early morning hours of Saturday, April 23, 2022 leaving the entire structure destroyed which was is confirmed to ALICOR, the umbrella organization of community radio stations across Liberia by the station manager, Tokpah Tarnue
The radio station had normally broadcast Friday, April 22,2022 and shutdown in preparation to resume broadcast the next day but only for residents of Voinjama and its environs to wake-up to the shocking report of it been destroyed by fire

It is understood that following day’s broadcast, the various appliances and equipment are switched-off as safely method recommends by the local technician.

Though, the cause of the fire is not yet established, ALICOR’s President Hector Z. Mulbah calls on the Liberia National Police in Voinjama City, Lofa County to launch a speedy investigation into the incident so as to establish the cause of the fire.

Mr Mulbah terms the burning of the radio station as a huge blow to the community radio sector in the county as Radio Kimtoma is widely listen to by the residents in the city, towns and villages adjacent, especially when the people are gearing up for a senatorial by-election on May 10,2022.

Meanwhile, Mr Hector Z. Mulbah is calling on well-meaning sons and daughters Lofa to timely intervene aimed at getting the station back on air so that the people of the city are not deprived of the basic needed information from government and other sectors.
