Senate Committee Chair on Defense Senator Zargo wants Mayor Koijee Suspended Pending the full Outcome of Independence Day Counter Protest Violence
Hours after the president of the Republic of Liberia, H.E. George Manneh Weah addressed the nation regarding July 26 blooded standoff between protesting University of Liberia Students and CDC-COP counter protestors, the Senate Committee Chairman on Defense, Steve Zargo has called for immediate suspension of Monrovia City Mayor Jefferson Koijee.
According to the Lofa County Senator, it’s alleged that Mayor Koijee was a staunch supporter of the July 26 bloody counter-protest that left several others with major and minor injuries.
The senator is however recommending that the president exercise his constitutional right by suspending the Monrovia City Mayor pending the outcome of an ongoing investigation into the July 26 violence at the entrances of the US Embassy near Monrovia.
Addressing reporters following president Weah’s response to the bloody 175th Independence Day counter protest, Senator Zargo alarmed over the purchase of a vehicle(pickup) bearing the inscription “CDC-COP”.
He at the same time challenged investigators to ensure that the financier of said gesture be brought to book.
The Lofa County Senator frowned at President George Weah for his late response to the July 26 incident because of its sensitive nature and venue of occurrence.
Meanwhile, the Liberia National Police on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 arrested seven(7) persons in Connection to the July 26 Violence.
Those arrested include: Kendrick S. Pelenah, 30, Joshua S. Karr, 28, Pukar Roberts, 36, Ben B. Togbah, 25 and Foday N. Massaquoi, 23. Others are: Aaron K. Chea, 26 and Abdurahman Barrie, 37.
According to a release from the LNP, a manhunt has been launched for the remaining individuals and will shortly solicit the assistance of the public by releasing names and photographs of the wanted persons.
