The International Monetary Fund (IMF) said Sri Lanka should kick off debt restructuring talks with its bilateral lender China, while the island state's government seeks a financing loan from the Washington-based fund.

"China is a big creditor, and Sri Lanka has to engage proactively with it on a debt restructuring," Krishna Srinivasan, director of the IMF's Asia and Pacific Department, told Reuters in an interview on Tuesday.

The Public Utilities Commissions of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) says it has approved power cuts of 3 hours for tomorrow, 27th of July.

Accordingly, the power cut is to be imposed as follows:

Groups ABCDEFGHIJKLPQRSTUVW – 01 hour and 40 minutes during daytime & 01 hour and 20 minutes during night.

Group CC - 02 hours and 30 minutes from 6.00 am to 8.30 am

Groups MNOXYZ - 03 hours from 5.30 am to 8.30 am

A 34-year-old was hacked to death in the area of Orugodawatta in Wellampitiya last night.

The victim was pronounced dead while being rushed to the Colombo National Hospital with critical injuries.

The deceased was identified as the brother of social activist Dan Priyasad. He was reportedly residing in the area of Kuruniyawatta, Wellampitiya.

The Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Gopal Baglay today handed over humanitarian supplies valued at over Rs. 3.4 billion, donated by the government of Tamil Nadu, to the Sri Lankan government.

The donations were handed over to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Sabry and Health Minsiter Keheliya Rambukwella in Colombo today (26) in the presence of MPs and other dignitaries, the High Commission said.

The Litro company says that it will be able to end gas queues by the end of this month. It's chairman Muditha Peiris said that 100,000 domestic gas cylinders were released to the market daily for the past few days.

The suspect who had expressed support for the Galle Face protest campaign and hatred towards the Police and Army has been identified as a resident of Galle Fort.

The firearm that had been stolen from an Army soldier during the anti-government protest near the Parliament on 13th July has been found by the Sri Lanka Navy.

The Police said protesters had assaulted the Army soldier and had stolen a T-56 firearm and some ammunition during the protest that was held near the Polduwa Junction in Battaramulla.

Sri Lanka Navy divers recovered the assault rifle and an empty Magazine from under the Diyawannawa Bridge on Saturday (23).

The firearm and empty magazine have been handed over to the Welikada Police, which is conducting further investigations.

A rights group documenting alleged abuses in Sri Lanka has filed a criminal complaint with Singapore's attorney general, seeking the arrest of former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa for his role in the South Asian nation's decades-long civil war.

The banks state that the annual interest rate offered for credit cards has been increased to 36%.

On 08th April, the Monetary Board of the Central Bank decided to remove the limitations imposed on the interest rates offered for credit cards.

Thereafter, the interest rates were increased from the existing 18% to 24%, then 30%, and have now been increased once again to 36%.

7-hour water cut tonight

The National Water Supply and Drainage Board says that water supply will be suspended for 7 hours for many areas of Colombo tonight.

Accordingly, the NWS&DB announced that the water supply to Colombo 7, 8, 9 and 10 will be suspended from 11:00 PM tonight to 6:00 AM tomorrow (24).

The water cut will be implemented due to an essential maintentance work, the NWS&DB said.
