The theme for 2024 is "Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress." Investing in women's education, health, and economic opportunities is key to achieving a more equal world for everyone.

Navam full moon has special significance for the Buddhists in Sri Lanka and in the world. The two very significant incidents that took place on the Navam Pura Pasalosvaka Poya Day were the first ever Buddhist congregation and the appointment of two chief disciples of Gautama Buddha as Aggasavakes namely Sariputta and Moggallana.

නවම් පුර පසළොස්වක පොහොය ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ සහ ලෝකවාසී බෞද්ධ ජනතාවට විශේෂ වැදගත්කමක් දරයි. නවම් පුර පසළොස්වක පොහොය දින සිදු වූ ඉතා වැදගත් සිදුවීම් දෙක නම් ප්‍රථම බෞද්ධ සභාව වන අතර ගෞතම බුදුරදුන්ගේ අග්‍ර ශ්‍රාවකයින් දෙදෙනකු වන සාරිපුත්ත සහ මොග්ගල්ලාන අග්ගසාවක ලෙස පත් කිරීම ය.

බෞද්ධ ජනතාව සමරන ප්‍රධාන ආගමික උත්සව අතුරින් වෙසක් උත්සවයට ප්‍රමුඛස්ථානයක් හිමිවනවා. එදිනට බුදුරජාණන් වහන්සේගේ ඉපදීම, බුදුවීම, සහ පිරිනිවන් පෑම හෙවත් තෙමඟුල සමරනු ලබන ලෝකවාසී බෞද්ධ ජනතාව ඒ වෙනුවෙන් විවිධ ආකාරයේ ආගමික වතාවත්වල නිරත වනවා. වෙසක් පොහොය දිනයේ දී බුදුරජාණන් වහන්සේගේ තෙමඟුලට අමතරව තවත් වැදගත් සිදුවීම් රැසක් සිදුවී තිබෙනවා.
