Bachir Gemayel Documentary Fifth Episode

The story of Bachir Gemayel was that of a man who devoted his life to safeguarding Lebanon’s fate and the future of its Christian population. On his way to glory and victory he waged an unrelenting battle to the very end. Finding ways to change the history of his little nation – a nation, that was a victim of its own geography. With his death the illusion of hope for his people and change for the republic were snatched away.

In his life, Bachir transformed his ambitions into reality but his death transformed him into a legend.

Between ambition and leadership lies a wide gap. Bachir Gemayel used his determination and skill to bridge that gap.
The small task force, which accompanied him during the ‘Two Year War’ transformed into the Lebanese Forces, a militia whose aims were to achieve Bachir’s goals by freeing the country, unifying the people and changing the regime.
The battle to free Beirut from Syrian occupation strengthened his image as a liberator.
And the battle to unify both military strategy and the Christian militias made him a key figure and the sole representative of the Christian region; prompting President Elias Sarkis to publically remark on several occasions that ‘there would be no solution without Bachir.’

Bachir Gemayel’s larger than life story is one where circumstances coincided to put him center stage in both his private and public life.
From the beginning he carefully engineered every step of his rise to the top.
The civil war pushed Bachir into a leading role, widening his leadership, taking him beyond the rigid framework imposed by his father to lay the foundations of his goal on a national scale.
Bachir’s journey began in earnest on Sunday the 13th of April 1975.
