37-year-old swimmer and environmental activist Oly Rush has completed a 65-mile swim around the Cayman Islands. Rush has become the first person to ever complete the 65 miles around the perimeter of Grand Cayman.

Rush was raising money for Plastic Free Cayman, a local activist group that aims to spread useful information about the environment, and sustainable lifestyles. Rush was able to raise £17,352 ($18000 Cayman Islands dollars.) on gofundme, an extra £7000 for the charity.

Rush was followed by several rescue boats, along with Kayaks and Paddleboards, encouraging the British swimmer to complete the 36-hour journey. Medical personnel waited patiently, and took Oly to get necessary health checks.

Nearly 120 swimmers took to the crystal-clear waters off Governor’s Beach Saturday, 14 May for the 33rd Flow Open Water Sea Swim.

The event, which featured dozens of junior swimmers and families competing together, marked the first Cayman Islands Aquatic Sports Association local open water event since February’s 5K Open Water National Championships. It provided swimmers an opportunity to prepare for longer-distance swims ahead of the Flowers 1-Mile Sea Swim on June 11.

“We just think it’s a wonderful community event in Cayman,” said Flow Marketing Manager Alyssa Christian. “Who wouldn’t want to be part of this beautiful event in this beautiful water? Swimming is such a big sport for Cayman but also an important skill for people living here to embrace and learn and know. So we’re really excited again to bring this back. It has been a couple of years, thanks to COVID. So we’re really just excited to be out here, be part of the community, see our customers and friends and interact again.”

The Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA), the trade association representing the mutual interests of destinations and stakeholders in the Caribbean, announced that it has been finalized a strategic agreement with the Cayman Islands.

“This new agreement shows the momentum that both FCCA and its destinations are gaining as cruise tourism continues to increase,” said Micky Arison, President of FCCA and Carnival Corporation.

“The Cayman Islands have been a longtime partner and I am honored to stipulate this agreement, we are proud of our joint work."

RCN) The Cayman Islands Border Control has called an emergency act, to ease a recent migrant surge. The Border Control detention center is at capacity.

Many of the migrants are Cubans, with 1,100 Cuban migrants landing on Cayman shores. Splitting off from the original 2,000 migrants going through Cayman waters.

RCN) Cayman recently saw an increase of 144 new cases from last week to 748. During this time the Cayman Ministry of Health also recorded a covid-related death, which occurred from an elderly patient with underlying health conditions. A further 244 more positive covid cases hit the island, which is a 19% increase from last week.

RCN) The Peoples’ Progressives Movement (PPM) has created a social media talk show, focusing on political issues. The show is hosted by former Parliamentarian and radio legend Austin Harris. The show is in casual talk show format, with Harris talking to different guests on a weekly basis.

The show debuted on Tuesday evening, with Deputy Leader of The Opposition Joey Hew MP. Hew criticised the PACT administration over the landfill issue, which several members of the PACT government ran on fixing.

(RCN) The RCIPS is working with Caymana Bay Property Management, to address escalating occurrenses of “Anti Social Behaviour,” a RCIPS press release reported.

CCTV footage allegedly showed teenagers vandalising toilets, chairs thrown in the water, golf carts crashed, and bikers holding up traffic performing stunts around Caymana Bay, the press release reported.

These issues have arisen due to kids not having a safe place to ride their bikes. In other countries, kids can utilise safe bike trails, keeping themselves and the community safe. Kids have decided to use Caymana Bay, as there is an abundance of space to spend time.

With these issues arising, it may make one wonder if more needs to be invested into our youth. The Cayman Islands Government should look into making investments into public spaces, such as a biking track.

A Columbian man, who is convicted of smuggling co***ne into the Cayman Islands, has been granted permission to stay in the Cayman Islands. Alan Dominguez lost his permanent resident status after being sentenced to four years in prison

Dominguez was sentenced after being involved in drug smuggling, which had smugglers swallow condoms stuffed with co***ne. If one of the “packets” exploded, the drug smugglers would have overdosed on the drug, causing serious health issues. Dominguez was involved with former customs officer David Lobo, who was sentenced to 16 years in prison for leading the operation.

Hiding behind a private profile, they illustrate in their bio with an almost amused tone “Cayman’s best fights and funny clips”, as if it were the launch of a new and dangerous trend that is rapidly developing spreading on the island.

The Cayman Charity Auto Show is revving up and ready to speed off on Monday, May 16, 2022, for the Discovery Day long weekend as an official Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebratory event in the Cayman Islands.

Auto enthusiasts and families alike will be able to view classic vintage cars, the latest electric supercars, trucks, motorcycles, planes, boats, service vehicles and more on display on Cayman’s gorgeous waterfront in George Town. An impressive sprawl of local and international vehicles will be on display from the intersection of Mary Street and North Church Street through Fort Street and across to Cardinal Avenue.

Entrance is free to the public, but as this is a charitable event, organizers will be collecting donations which will enter spectators in a door prize draw and the ability to cast a vote for ‘Best In Show’. In addition, 100% of the vehicle participation fee will be donated to the following charitable organizations: R3 Cayman Foundation, Humane Society, Cayman Community Farms, Plastic Free Cayman, 100 Men who Care. Those who make significant donations to the organizations will also have access to the VIP in a shaded waterfront area next to Sandbar.

British educator Simon Testa has been named as the next Principal of St. Ignatius Catholic School, beginning in August 2022.

Earlier this week, Parish Administrator Naveen D’Souza sent a letter to St. Ignatius parents informing them that the School Advisory Committee and Parish Pastoral Council supported the appointment of Testa as Principal.

According to the letter, Testa has more than 32 years of experience “in various senior leadership positions in educational organisations in New Zealand, Malta, China, the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, and Malaysia”

After a turbulent week marked by two close murders, violence and armed robbery, the government breaks the silence and does so directly with Premier Wayne Panton, who has made the following statements:

“The past week we have had a number of tragedies and crimes committed in our community, which had an impact in our community, causing pain, grief and concern. It is absolutely regrettable and unacceptable.

We have a small group of criminals in our community and there are people who interact and associate with them, facilitating their activities. Our community it is better than that. We must cooperate and be committed to address these issues to the relevant authorities, having zero tolerance towards these criminals, who cannot be part of a beautiful place like the Cayman Islands. We must look after each other and our collective community interests”

The premier of the British Virgin Islands (BVI), Andrew Fahie, was arrested for drug trafficking at a Miami airport by agents of the US anti-drug agency DEA. Together with him, Oleanvine Maynard, director of the port authority of the BVI, ended up being arrested. Both are suspected of having participated in a vast trafficking scheme aimed at smuggling co***ne into the US and laundering money.

The Cayman Islands Government spent $850,000 in 2021, to manage migrants, a GIS press release reported.

After the recent increase of migrants arriving in The Cayman Islands, The Cayman Islands Customs and Border Control Service (CBC) hosted a multiagency Mass Migration committee, to discuss the pressing issue.

The migrants are from Cuba and are escaping the communist country on small, rundown boats. Cuba is one of the least free countries, with Freedom House giving the country a 12/100. The report stated that there was little to no political, social, or economical freedom. The Cuban community in Cayman held a protest in July 2021, to protest food shortages and electricity blackouts.
