Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii Chelilim, EGH, on Tuesday, presided over the groundbreaking ceremony of the New Sergoek VTC and handing over of a bus to the institution.
The bus was bought by the County Government of Uasin Gishu, while construction of the administration block is being financed by Rafiki wa Maisha International, a French organisation.
Speaking during the event, Governor Bii said in the next financial year, his administration will allocate a significant amount of money to procure equipment for the VTCs.
He also said the National Government will soon be teaming up with counties in a partnership that will offer the youths an opportunity to get skills from the VTCs that will enable them to engage in affordable housing programs.
So far, the institutions have registered an increase in student enrollment across the 13 VTCs to 4,000, owing to the continued support and sensitization.
"Through the collaboration with the Ministry of Public Service-National Youth Service, our VTCs will now serve as recruitment centres for local and international job opportunities and my administration is in full support of the plan," he added.
The Governor also extended gratitude to the partner Rafiki ya Maisha International for the support in the construction of the two-floor administration block.
Rafiki ya Maisha International Secretary General Christian Roth in his remarks said, "We believe in the transformative power of Education to uplift individuals and communities. We are proud to partner with Sergoek VTC in this endeavour."
"This administration block we are sponsoring will serve as a hub for academic coordination, student services and administrative function, enhancing the learning environment and supporting the growth of students," he added.
