As Taita-Taveta County workers continue on strike, paralysing key services including revenue collection and sanitation services,we should ask the question: What exactly are the roles and obligations of the newly formed municipalities of Voi, Mwatate and Taveta which were recently awarded charters to operate effectively under the ambit of the county government? Do they have the requisite resources or are they just another irrelevant layer of duplication of county government services?

Maraga fires warning shot at corrupt leaders as he continues his campaigns for president

Former Chief Justice and presidential hopeful David Maraga has continued to sound a warning to all corrupt government officials that they would face dire consequences should he form the next government.
Speaking at Dan Mwazo Hall in Voi during a tour of Taita-Taveta county,Maraga said that about Sh3 billion was being lost everyday through corruption and siphoning of government resources to line the pockets of a few corruption leaders.
“You all know the type of person I am and what I have done in the past. I am a fearless person and I will not spare any leader or government official who engages in corruption,” said Maraga adding that concrete efforts were need to stamp out the vice from the society.
He pointed out that it was due to corruption that most essential services were beyond the reach of the common mwananchi, adding that if such looted funds could be recovered, they could go a long way in providing services such as electricity, water and other social amenities.
He at the same time urged the youths in the country to desist from being used by selfish politicians to cause chaos and disturbances after being given cash handouts, saying that youth employment should be addressed to avoid young people being lured into criminal and antisocial activities…et
