It's easy to find ways to improve when you are genuinely curious about something. Rather than asking yourself, "How can I be better at this?" start by asking, "How can I be more curious about this?"

Singer and songwriter David Bowie on how to produce your best work:

"If you feel safe in the area that you’re working in, you’re not working in the right area. Always go a little further into the water than you feel you’re capable of being in. Go a little bit out of your depth, and when you don’t feel that your feet are quite touching the bottom, you’re just about in the right place to do something exciting."

Entrepreneur and creative director Andrew Anabi on how to cherish life:

"When life changes, you will probably miss the way it was. You may miss those long morning drives or walks to the office, or those hectic family gatherings. You may miss them because those moments are finite — you will only travel those streets and see those people a certain amount of times.

Every time you do something that is one less time you do it. One day you will do something the final time and you will rarely know when that day comes.

For all you know, today might be the last time you walk in a particular neighborhood. Or it might be the last time you smile at a particular someone. To think otherwise, would be foolish. Nothing is guaranteed, except this moment. Your only real choice is to cherish every exchange like it is your last — because it very well might be.

Therefore, the best way to cherish life is to remind yourself of life's impermanence. It is to remember that every time you see someone that is one less time you see them. It is to remember that every time you go somewhere that is one less time you visit. By doing this, you naturally slow down. Almost like a reflex, you start to truly live."

Writer and Aikido teacher George Leonard on how to get started:

"You can't do everything, but you can do one thing, and then another and another. In terms of energy, it's better to make a wrong choice than none at all. You might begin by listing your priorities—for the day, for the week, for the month, for a lifetime. Start modestly. List everything you want to do today or tomorrow. Set priorities by dividing the items into A, B, and C categories. At the least, accomplish the A items. Try the same thing with long-term goals. Priorities do shift, and you can change them at any time, but simply getting them down in black and white adds clarity to your life, and clarity creates energy."

Balancing Act
One of the great balancing acts in life is to be cautious and daring at the same time.

Cautious enough to avoid stupid mistakes, prevent burnout, and maintain a margin of safety.

Daring enough to bet on yourself, to do the things you would regret leaving undone and to be willing to be uncomfortable in the short term so you can learn and grow in the long term.

Actor Stephen Fry on getting through the bad days:

"I've found that it's of some help to think of one's moods and feelings about the world as being similar to weather.

Here are some obvious things about the weather: It’s real. You can't change it by wishing it away. If it's dark and rainy it really is dark and rainy and you can't alter it. It might be dark and rainy for two weeks in a row.

But. It will be sunny one day.

In the same way that one has to accept the weather, so one has to accept how one feels about life sometimes. "Today's a crap day," is a perfectly realistic approach. It's all about finding a kind of mental umbrella. "Hey-ho, it's raining inside: it isn’t my fault and there's nothing I can do about it, but sit it out. But the sun may well come out tomorrow and when it does, I shall take full advantage."

Live the Pareto Principle lifestyle:
Relationships - Who are the few people that have the most positive impact on my life? Spend more time with them.
Priorities - What are the few actions that have the most positive impact on my day? Prioritize them.
Learning - What are the few information sources I learn the most from? Focus on them.
Stress - What are the few sources that cause most of the stress and friction in my life? Eliminate them

Learning wisdom is more than learning facts;
If what we learn only confirms what we already know, it probably isn’t wisdom we are learning.

Three Things That Cause Problems in Life

Psalm 82:5 identifies three progressive components that are the source of our suffering in life. First, there is a lack of knowledge —“they know nothing.” Second, there is a misunderstanding or misconception of life—“they understand nothing” and cannot comprehend their environment. And third, there is a lack of spiritual sight—“they walk about in darkness” they see nothing. The word “darkness” in the original Hebrew connotes the principle of ignorance

In most cases, its use implies the absence of knowledge. In this context, its use denotes that men are ignorant or blind to God’s principles. If you attempt to live and solve the challenges of life from a position of ignorance, then you are walking in darkness and will experience exasperation, frustration, and failure. The text concludes that the result of ignorance and a lack of understanding is that “all the foundations of the earth are shaken.” Foundation implies the fundamental principles and laws that regulate function or operation.

In essence, when people lack knowledge and understanding of the basic, fundamental laws of God, all life goes off track and ends in failure.

The natural, logical process of reproduction, which involves the intimate consummation of two individuals, gives evidence that the Creator designed the human family to procreate within the context of a strong, stable union structured to provide the social, psychological, emotional, physical, and spiritual environment for successful development.

There are critical emotional and psychological needs that only a male can provide, just as there are specific needs only a female is designed to meet. Therefore, the absence of either has an effect on development, despite the seemingly normal functioning of the human family

Dangers of a child without a father:
1. Children in father-absent homes are five times more likely to be poor.
2. Infant mortality rates are 1.8 times higher for infants of unmarried mothers than for married mothers.
3. Youths in father-absent households have significantly higher odds of incarceration than those in mother-father families.
4. Youths are more at risk of first substance use without a highly involved father.
5. Being raised by a single mother raises the risk of teen pregnancy.
6. Fatherless children are twice as likely to drop out of school.
