Where was Khalwale when the National Ministry of Agriculture under Mithika Linturi was procuring, supplying and distributing fertilizer full of stones to Kenyans who include Kakamegans? Could it be that Khalwale was in bed with the corrupt cartels at the agriculture ministry to peddle propaganda to the effect that it is counties such as Kakamega which were distributing fake fertilizer to farmers when indeed the fertilizer was emanating from Linturi's ministry in Nairobi? If Jack Wamboka MP for Bumula wouldn't have brought the impeachment motion against Linturi over the fake fertilizer would Khalwale have done it or told Kakamegans the truth? Khalwale nolonger have the interests of Kakamegans at heart except blackmail and self enrichment.

AN INDIAN ENGINEERING COMPANY TO OPERATIONALISE MALAVA DAIRY PLANT

BAJAJ PROCESSPACK LIMITED, an Indian engineering company shall collaborate with the County to establish a dairy processing machinery plant at Tumbeni village of Malava.

The company shall also install milk coolers in various sub-counties to advance GOVERNOR BARASA'S food security and wealth creation agenda through the dairy value chain.

Once operational, the plant will boost the economy of Malava and Kakamega in general.

The delegation of the company together with top county officials have since visited the Malava dairy plant.

WE ARE TAKING WAR TO THE DOORS STEPS OF THOSE DERAILING GOVERNOR BARASA'S TRANSFORMATION OF KAKAMEGA

The time for appeasement is over. It is time for action and transformation of the grassroots of Kakamega.

The period between 1929 to the late 1930s Winston Churchill rang bells over the odious conditions in Germany germane from the Hi**er's rearmament program which he saw as a threat to peace in Europe. The then British government wrongly looked at Churchill's criticism of Hi**er and Na**sm as misinformed.

Churchill lambasted government policies which failed to recognise threats by Na**sm and Fascism.

The message of Churchill and his allies continued to fall on deaf ears as evidenced when British Prime Minister Nevile Chamberlain pressed on with the diplomatic appeasement of Hi**er.

The gravity of the situation could not be underestimated. Churchill was proved right when N**i Germany annexed Austrian territory and further broke the Munich agreement, mobilised its military and attacked Czechoslovakia in late 1930s.

The APPEASEMENT POLICY became a total and UNMITIGATED failure. And PUBLIC OPINION swelled in support of Churchill on British military campaign against N**i Germany and Adolf Hi**er.

We are tired of County Executive Officers who are coming up with policies which are making Barasa Government unpopular on the grassroots of Kakamega!

We are tired of a clique of notable MCAs who are blackmailing Barasa Government on the grassroots of Kakamega!

59,200 KAKAMEGA STUDENTS TO GET ENHANCED BURSARY

The Kakamega government has launched an enhanced bursary programme to benefit 59,200 bright and needy students.

Governor Fernandes Barasa on Wednesday launched the Sh240 million bursary at Bukhungu Stadium.

The bursaries will be distributed in the county's 60 wards. “Every ward will get Sh4 million, which is an increment from the previous Sh2 million. The least amount allocated to every beneficiary is Sh4,000. My administration has implemented an affirmative action in the allocation process,” Barasa said.

“Allocating this money to each ward guarantees equality and gives an opportunity to local leadership, including representatives of MCAs to make a decision on who deserves this support.”

The allocation to the 59,200 targeted beneficiaries will give priority to people living with disability and teenage mothers.

Barasa said his administration is supporting students from vulnerable families who are in secondary schools, technical institutions and teacher training institutions specialising in ECDE education.

The governor said his government has provided Sh292.5 million learning infrastructure in 61 ECDE centres.

He said Sh60 million was spent on ECDE capitation, 1,000 per learner in the 2023-24 financial year.

“Our efforts to improve the learning environment has led to increased enrolment in our 927 learning centres from 30,055 learners in 2014 to 107,522 learners in 2024,” Barasa said.

“I'm confident this bursary will have a huge impact on families since it will ease the burden of raising fees during these economic tough times.”

Barasa said the county is running a university scholarship programme, which has benefitted 71 students-22 in China and 49 in local universities.

He said his government has set aside Sh19 million this financial year for 12 competitive scholarships targeting students enrolling for courses in agriculture, sciences and information and communications technology.

The county government is also running County Afya Elimu Fund loans. The programme aims to support students in middle-level medical colleges.

Some Sh36 million has been spent to support 2,307 trainees in this category and Sh7.5 million has been allocated this financial year.

“My administration is also partnering with Access Kenya, KCB, Family Bank and Jomo Kenyatta Foundation to support students from vulnerable backgrounds,” he said.

SINCE ANTIQUITY BULLS HAVE PREDICTED THE FALL OF POWERFUL LEADERS IN OUR COMMUNITIES

A story goes that while Bayumbu of Bateremi and the rest of the present Tachoni clans were at Mwalie one Namukongo of Babichu clan- then their overall leader was influenced by his mother to wrestle leadership from the ageing Uncle Se Wamukoya. That Namukongo’s mother was the one supposed to have been the leader because her mother was the eldest wife of her father to the mother of Se wamukoya who was the young wife but she was discriminated against because she was a woman. She thus incited Namukongo who overthrew his uncle Se Wamukoya.

Since Se Wamukoya was a man of peace and old he decided to move elsewhere instead of fighting Namukongo but before he left he warned that what Namukongo’s actions was against tradition and thus he would pay for them before Se Wamukoya himself died. From Mwalie Se Wamukoya and his group went to Bumula in South Bungoma, Lusumu in Wanga, Lukongo then upto Butula.

Shortly afterwards Munyei of Bangachi arrived at Mwalie with his group. Namukongo received and showed him where to build olukoba for his people. Munyei heard of the greed of Namukongo which resulted into the exodus of his uncle Se Wamukoya from Mwalie. Munyei befriended Namukongo, inspected the exit routes of Namukongo’s village and learnt the strength and weakness of Namukongo’s army. Munyei began to throw parties to people by attending all weddings and funerals, donating food, hides and skins to soldiers. He also gave out elephant tusks and beads to the house of Namukongo.

People loved Munyei’s actions and thereafter he overthrew Namukongo detained him to the exception of his son Siboko and wife who sought refuge among Balaku and Bachuchu. Hence Munyei ruled for some generations and his people occupied the land covering Ebwai at Amukura then Mwiala upto Tororo in Uganda where they were attacked and fought with the Teso people. They lost the battle and went back to Mwalie.

The next exodus took them to Kimkung or Kimukungi near Kimaeti not very far from Malakisi market. Thereafter Munyei was killed at Kimukungi by surprise army that Siboko and the mother (wife of Namukongo) had employed while living among Balaku and Bachuchu (uncles to Siboko) and which army disguised as Masai (Barwa) cattle rustlers and evacuated Namukongo the prisoner.

The raiders looted everything except the bullock called Zisenda that Munyei loved most and which wondered in the valleys and met Munyei’s warriors who had gone to hunt. On seeing the bull, the warriors suspected something bad and came back with it and found Munyei dead and Namukongo the prisoner missing. Makhumbi tookover the leadership and they recruited the Masaaba people and the Teso to look for Namukongo
