*Stop This Confusion: Cholesterol Not the Real Enemy!*
Not all cholesterol is bad. Cholesterol is required by our bodies to synthesize hormones and other major body chemicals. It's also worth noting that cholesterol is essential for cell membrane integrity. As such, it is imperative that we can't survive without cholesterol. That's why our bodies have a system for production, transportation and control of cholesterol levels.
However, a confusion exists across the medical field where a lipoprotein formerly referred to as 'bad cholesterol', currentl known as Low-density lipoprotein (LDL) remains. To demystify this confusion, LDL is not cholesterol but rather a protein with a fat tail that is made up of cholesterol. This form of protein is what causes all the trouble in the body due to it's damage to the cardiovascular system. It clogs your blood vessels. On the other hand, another form of fat, free fatty acids or triglycerides drive insulin resistance leading to development of carbs metabolic disorders like type 2 diabetes.
Surprisingly, this lipoprotein tend to constitute most of the cholesterol in your body. The rest is high-density lipoprotein (HDL) or “good” cholesterol. That's why it is essential to know your 'cholesterol levels' to ensure your LDL and HDL levels are maintained at healthy ranges.
