In November 1945, Arsenal hosted Dynamo Moscow at White Hart Lane for a friendly match.

The match was disrupted by a thick fog and it was difficult to see clearly.

The game could have been called off but there were thousands of fans in attendance and the Russian team had to return home, so it couldn't be rearranged. Therefore, they had to continue playing.

Several rules of the game were violated in the process. There were claims that Dynamo Moscow replaced a player with another, without taking off the player. At a point, they were said to have fielded up to 15 players at the same time.

On Arsenal's part, it was believed that their forward George Drury, who was sent off, returned to the pitch without the referee noticing.

Arsenal goalkeeper Wyn Griffiths reportedly crashed into his goalpost- and was totally unaware of the scores at half-time. He was replaced by a spectator.

Dynamo Moscow ended up winning 4-3 but there were claims that at least two of their goals had been offside, but could not be spotted in the fog.

In 2009, Liverpool played a 4-4 draw twice in the space of seven days.

They played 4-4 against Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League on 14 April and then played 4-4 against Arsenal in the Premier League on 21 April.

In the first match, the scorers for Liverpool were Fabio Aurelio, Xabi Alonso, Lucas and Dirk Kuyt while the scorers for Chelsea were Didier Drogba, Alex and Frank Lampard (2).

In the second match, Fernando Torres and Yossi Benayoun both scored a brace for Liverpool while Andrey Arshavin scored all four goals for Arsenal.

Italy's Gianluca Pagliuca was the first goalkeeper to be shown a red card at the FIFA World Cup.

On 23 June 1994, he was sent off for handling the ball outside his penalty area, in the group stage match against Norway.

Roberto Baggio had to be subbed off for Italy's substitute goalkeeper Luca Marchegiani.

10-man Italy went on to win the game 1-0, with Dino Baggio scoring a 69th minute header from a freekick cross by Giuseppe Signori.

In 1974, Zaire (now DR Congo) became the third African country to participate in the FIFA World Cup- but they had a tournament to forget.

About three months before the World Cup, they had emerged AFCON champions after beating Zambia in the final. And after they sealed their World Cup qualification, the then president Mobutu Sese Seko Kuku Ngbendu Wa Za Banga invited them to his residence and reportedly bought them all cars and houses.

Zaire's opening game was against Scotland which they lost 2-0. After the match, their match bonuses were reportedly withheld by the government.

The players were not happy with the development and refused to play in subsequent games. But after they were persuaded, they reluctantly agreed.

In their second game against Yugolasvia, they suffered one of the heaviest defeats in World Cup history, losing 9-0.

According to Zaire defender Mwepu Ilunga, President Mobutu threatened them after the match and warned them that if they lost by four goals in the last game against Brazil, none of them would return home.

They ended up losing 3-0 to Brazil. In that game, while Brazil's Rivelino was preparing to take a free kick, Zaire's Mwepu Ilunga kicked the ball far away, hoping to get sent off in an act of protest, but he only got a yellow card.

Zaire's head coach Blagoje Vidinić, who was from Yugoslavia, didn't return to Zaire after the tournament but went straight back to his country.

The Zaire players reportedly never got paid and the government stopped funding the national side. Also, they were not permitted to leave the country- and this hindered their prospects of moving to European clubs, with the offers that came in after the World Cup.

In 1962, Brazil became the second nation to defend their World Cup title (the first was Italy in 1938). And going into the 1966 World Cup, they had a chance to win three consecutive titles.

They won their opening game against Bulgaria 2-0, with Pele and Garrincha both scoring free kicks.

(That was the last game Pele and Garrincha both played together. In total, they played 40 games, winning 36 and losing none).

Pele was the target of some heavy tackling and he picked up an injury and was forced to miss the second game against Hungary, with Tostão replacing him.

Brazil lost their game against Hungary 3-1, with Tostão scoring their only goal.

Ahead of their final group stage game against Portugal, Brazil's manager Vicente Feola decided to make nine changes to the starting line-up, dropping Garrincha and bringing back Pele who was not fully fit yet.

It didn't have much impact as Brazil also lost 3-1 to Portugal and finished third in the group with 2 points. They became the second defending champions to crash out at the group stages (the first was Italy in 1950).

Kuwait made their only World Cup appearance in the 1982 edition, which was hosted by Spain. They were placed in the same group as Czechoslovakia, France and England.

After an impressive 1-1 draw with Czechoslovakia, Kuwait battled France next in the next game, hoping to achieve an upset. But despite showing good resistance for the first 30 minutes, France finally opened scoring and by half-time, were leading 2-0.

France added a third goal three minutes after the break. In the 75th minute, Kuwait pulled one back but shortly after, Alain Giresse scored again for France.

However, the goal was protested by the Kuwait players who had paused play after mistaking a whistle from the crowd to be that of the Soviet referee Myroslav Stupar.

President of the Kuwait Football Association Fahad Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who had been watching from the stands, also rushed on to the pitch in protest. Finally, Stupar gave in and disallowed the goal.

However, France would go on to score another in the 89th minute, as the game ended 4-1.

Kuwait lost their next match 1-0 to England and finished bottom of the group with 1 point.

France and Brazil have met each other four times at the FIFA World Cup.

They first met in the semi-finals of the 1958 edition, with Brazil winning 5-2. For Brazil, Pelé scored a hattrick while Vavá and Didi scored a goal each. Just Fontaine and Roger Piantoni scored for France.

Their next meeting was at the 1986 World Cup quarter-finals, which ended in a 1-1 draw. Careca scored for Brazil while Michel Platini scored for France. France went on to win 4-3 on penalties.

In 1998, both teams made it to the final, where France beat Brazil 3-0. Zinedine Zidane scored the first two goals while Emmanuel Petit scored the third.

Their final meeting was at the quarter-finals of the 2006 edition, which France won 1-0, with Thierry Henry scoring the only goal of the game.
