Eldoret lady's intimate photos get her thrown in jail for 10 years.

Mercy Chepchumba from Soi Eldoret is serving a 10-year sentence for allegedly sending intimate photos. She has so far served 8 months of that term.

She says she left Timboroa for Nairobi in search of a better future not knowing she would end up behind bars.

Sharing her experience on the local tv show Mercy sadly narrated,

"I asked a friend to help me find something to do so that I could travel to Nairobi. I got a job in Kasarani but left because the woman would sometimes delay my salary."

Adding,

"The woman who landed me in prison, I met her through Facebook. I started living with her. She wanted me to get married to her brother but when I turned down the offer she got very angry.

I never thought my refusal was something to complicate our relationship. She says she couldn't get married to the guy as he was being taken care of by the woman she met via Facebook."

She got into a WhatsApp group only to land in jail,

"I got added to the group and I started sending the intimate photos. The photos can be taken while completely n**e or semi-dressed.

The n**es went to everyone on my contact list. The woman I was living with got mad because she got my n**es. I asked her to forgive me and I thought she had. I blocked her and she got mad."

Mercy said her Facebook friend called her demanding to know why she had sent him her steamy videos.

"I was picked up by people from Kasarani Police Station. The police officers called me very bad names. All the friends I had ran away. I am currently serving a 10-year sentence at Langata Women's prison. I have served 8 months so far."

She says she left behind a child, she is not sure who is taking care of her anymore

"My sister said she couldn't take care of her. My grandmother is old and my mum is deceased."

Her advise?

"Being in jail is not easy nor fun, people should stop wanting to come here."

The Mbochet oath


In 1947, Solomon araap Mateget founded the Kipsigis Central Association which converted his Dinit-ab-Mbochet into a politico-religious outfit.

It now emerged that there was a connection with the Kikuyu in Sotik and Kericho.

Njoroge Kagunda though largely in the background, is thought to have been the linkman between Dinit-ab Mbochet and Jomo Kenyatta and Mbiyu Koinange.

In fact, two of Mateget’s sons attended the Githunguri Teachers College run by Koinange and Kenyatta and Dinit-ab Mbochet would eventually send some 23 Kipsigis youth to the college and paid some £150 in fees for them.

Most of the fees collected by the cult was obtained through an oathing ceremony which was conducted occasionally.

A ritual expert named Araap Marusin presided over the oathing. Marusin had once worked in Kiambu and like Mateget and Cheklelich, he was fluent in the Kikuyu language.

The oath involved the slaughter of a ram which had been prayed for through chants with the hands of the participants holding its wool. The animal would then be slaughtered and its eyes gouged out. Each of the participants would be required to remove every article of western clothing on them.

The initiate would then hold a Bible in one hand and a Kipsigis hymnal in another and some earth would be placed on his navel.

He would then swear that he would never divulge the oath and that he would be prepared to use violence against the authorities.

He also swore that he should warn any of the fellow members of impending action by the authorities should he be in possession of such information.

They gouged out eyes of the ram would then be crashed to signify the destruction of the individual who would let out the secrets of the society. The rest of the meat was cooked and eaten by those present and 13 shillings collected part of which was sent to Githunguri while the remainder helped finance the organization.

With a lot of young people keen on creating content, finding one’s niche is key and this is what Arap Uria discovered early in his career. Believing in his dreams, he took up a phone and began recording a number of videos which he would later post online.

Little did he know that three years down the line, his videos would attract millions of views and YouTube would become his source of income plus many endorsements from companies.

Through his act, the funnyman who gained fame from mimicking well-known football commentators will be travelling to Qatar to watch the Fifa World Cup.

He is 26 years old. His Real Name is Meshack Kiprop Biwott.

The YouTuber was born in a village known as Kamauwa in Moiben Constituency, Uasin Gishu county. He attended primary school in Mutei before attending two other high schools and finally completing his high school education at Tambach.

Arap Uria then proceeded to Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology and pursued a Bachelor’s degree in education. He took up Mathematics and Geography and graduated in 2019.

Uria is his family name and his character draws inspiration from his grandfather. He first started out doing comedy clips where he’d act as a drunkard. The clips were majorly done in his mother tongue.

This displeased his father greatly as he is a staunch Christian who believed that character was all wrong. Nonetheless, his mother encouraged him to pursue what he loved. Later, his father came on board especially after seeing the amazing reception he was receiving.

Starting out was not easy. He had very few subscribers and his views were extremely low. This did not deter him and anytime he’d get someone’s phone he would make sure to subscribe to his channel.

He would also use his father’s phone to send links to the different groups his father was in. Afterwards, he’d delete the messages so his father does not get wind of what he was upto. Others said

An Okiot man surveys the top of the trees canopy during an hunting expedition. The Okiek are expert hunters, Elephant trappers, Honey Harvesters and use to live in forests.

Their habitat in Nessuit and other parts of the Mau were severely depleted following the excision of the forest. Their settlement in Kipkurere and Kaptingia in UasinGishu suffered a similar fate.

The Okiek people have traditionally been a hunting and honey collecting tribe scattered in groups throughout the highland forests of Kenya. They speak a Kalenjin dialect and, therefore, linguistically are part of to the Kalenjin speaking Kipsigis, Nandi, Tuken, Marakwet etc.

The Okiek claim to be, and by their neighbors they are said to be, the earliest surviving inhabitants of the region.

Raymond Kipruto Moi lost his Rongai parliamentary seat marking it may seem a short-term end to the Moi political dynasty.

For the first time in nearly 80 years no Moi is elected as a peoples representative.

The sons of Moi it seems have not understood that the Kalenjin people did not have King's. Leaders in the community are respected for who they are, not who their father was.

Daniel Toroitich Araap Moi was an icon of the Kalenjin people, a political giant who brought respect and Honour to the Kalenjin community.

So how did the Moi sons bungle the political goodwill the former president had built all across Kalenjin Rift-valley and the Tugen nation in particular? How did the sons of Moi become unelectable just two decades after their father retired?

A series of misteps, false bravado, political miscalculation, sense of entitlement, coercing with political enemies, undermining Ruto and believing money could buy Kalenjin loyalty ultimately led to their downfall.

The Kalenjin community stood by the late President Moi from the LEGCO days in the 50s/60s, the Kiambu mafia Assult in the 70s, the 1982 coup and the multiparty onslaught of the 90s.

The Kalenjin nation also supported Mois choice of Uhuru Kenyatta as president in 2002 even as Uhurus own community rejected him.

When the NARC administration took over it was the Kalenjin community that stood by Moi as firebrand politicians called for the prosecution and jailing of the retired president.

Despite all this, the Moi sons have failed to appreciate and be thankfull to the community that supported and stood by their father through thick and thin.

Instead they have opened conflicts with people who stood by Mzee. They saw themselves as a political royalty who would not compete with children of nobody's.

Dr. William Kipchirchir Samoei Ruto family Heritage

DP William Ruto’s father Daniel Samoei Kipruto araap Cheruiyot was born in 1914 in Kericho, to Mzee Cheruiyot araap Chumba who later moved to Ziwa in Nandi in the late 1960s. They were members of the Kapkomoseek clan – animal totem Kibiegen (baboon). The Kapkomoseek Clan in Nandi is known as Kapsato which split from the larger family when they moved to Nandi in the early 1800s. DPs grandfather was named Cheruiyot araap Chumba who was the son of Maruri araap Cheruto, the last born son of Cheruto araap Maina who was one of the earliest headmen of the Kipsigis appointed in 1905 and serving until his death in 1911. DPs grandmother was named Chebukwo Obot Temoet a daughter of the Kipkenda clan. Cheruto araap Maina was the son of Maina araap Chibweri who was the son of Chibweri the brother of Wareko. Wareko was the grandfather of Sato (hence Kapsato of Nandi).

Cheruto araap Maina was a gazetted headman of Location 1 (Kiptere) in Kericho appointed by Kericho DC Hugh B. Partington in 1905. He was appointed because of his outstanding leadership of troops of battle and had become enormously wealthy by the standards of his day. He was appointed to work under Orkoiyot Kipchomber araap Koilegen who was appointed Paramount Chief of the Kipsigis in 1905. He in fact accompanied Koilegen to Mombasa in 1906 for the King’s birthday celebrations and he can be seen on the famous photo where Koilegen is turbaned.
Cheruto was a man of great influence and so as the headman, he was tasked to collect hut and poll tax among the Kipsigis under his jurisdiction.

One day in November 1911, Cheruto araap Maina was killed when he went to collect taxes from one of the sons of the Kisii woman who had been under the care of his father Maina araap Chibweri. Kapmanaichi as the family would be known, had a belligerent son who refused to pay taxes. Cheruto araap Maina got one of his bulls and had it driven to market and sold for the tax.
